Valid Strategy For Secure Image Upload From Flash Client?
Apr 27, 2010
I'm creating a flash application that will post images to a url for saving to disk/display later. I was wondering what are some suggested strategies for making this secure enough so that the upload is verified as coming from the application and not just some random form post. Is it reliable enough to check referring location realizing that I don't need bulletproof security, or perhaps setting authentication headers is a better strategy even though it seems unreliable from what I have read. The application and the server script will reside on the same domain and is in java - is there a way to check for a 'session' or something like that?
Another thought I had was some sort of simple hashed key type system, I could hard-code a key into the flash application and pass something to the server based on that - the server would also know this key and be able to verify if the value passed was based on that? The app is a public app, so authenticating users is not an option. After more research I am thinking about using a hard coded salt key on both ends, then sending an MD5 hash of the base64 encoded image bytearray+salt to be matched on the server side.

I am trying to write a secure login using flash. I worked out that the login must be separate from the protected content otherwise a decompiler will get round it very quickly. At the moment I have a login swf that posts variables to a server side script which then creates a session for a valid user.
The idea is to then forward on to the protected content. However I am unsure how to pass the users info to the swf so a user could not modify before the swf gets it and thus see another members content or what I can do to stop someone just accessing the content directly by just knowing the swf file's location.

I have an upload form for an image. The user clicks browse and selects a file. How can I get the image dimensions the moment the user selects the file (before the file is even uploaded to the server). It obviously has to be something client-side with maybe javascript/jquery or flash/flex (prefer js//jquery though), but can either of them do this? This is the code I'm using to tie into zozo's getImgSize() function, but it gives me 0*0 as size.

I originally tried to capture, encode and upload the audio using Silverlight, but because of the lack of suitable client-side encoding options, I'm now giving Flash a shot (Flash has baked-in support for encoding to Speex).I think I've figured out how to capture and encode the audio... But now what was easy in Silverlight, is the challenge in Flash. My server-side is .NET: MVC2-I'm open to receiving the audio in whatever manner is best- REST, WCF..So that's my question: How could one upload binary data from Flash, to a .NET server-side endpoint

We're building a web-based application that requires heavy image processing. We'd like this processing load to be on the client as much as possible and we'd like to support as much platforms (even mobiles) as much as possible. Here's the info: Image processing is rasterization from some data. Think like creating a PNG image from a PDF file. We don't have a lot of server power. So client-side processing is a bit of a must.
So, we're considering: Flash - most widespread, but from what i read has lackluster development tools. (and no iPhone/iPad support for now). Silverlight - allows us to use .NET CLR, so a big ++ (a lot of code is in .NET). But is not supported for most mobiles ( rumored android support in the future) HTML5 + Javascript - probably the most "portable" option. The problem is having to rewrite all that image processing code in Javascript.
Clarification: I don't need further ideas on what libraries are available for Silverlight and Javascript. My dilemma is choosing Silverlight means no support for most mobiles choosing Flash means we have to redevelop most of our code AND no iPhone/iPad support HTML5 + Javascript we have to redevelop most of our code and not fully supported yet in all browsers choosing two (Silverlight + Flash) will be too costly Any out-of-the-box or bright ideas / alternatives

We are planning a desktop client application with Adobe AIR. The client app will be delivered to our customers with a database, which contains monthly updated marketing data provided by our company. As different customers will buy different sets of data from us, for example, a customer is only interested in marketing data in a specific product category, while another customer need all data in a certain region. After a customer installs this client app, new data will be emailed to the customer every month.
So, the requirement is to keep the data accessible only by the customer who bought it. After reading through AIR's secure local store and database encryption feature, I came up with the following design: each customer will have his own secret key (stored in AIR's secure local store), the secret key is used to encrypt the data that the customer has purchased. Of course, the monthly data that we sent to the customer will be encrypted using the same secret key. So my questions are: is AIR's database encryption and secure local store secure enough for this use case? If someone gets the encrypted database file, can he decrypt the DB?

Basically I'll be working with large XML files (approx. 20 - 50 MB). These files needs to be uploaded on a server.I know it isn't possible to touch the files with javascript, nor to implement HTTP compression on the client-side.
My question is that if any solution exists (flash / action script) that compresses a file and has a javascript API? The scenario is this:
Trying to upload 50 MB XML file Before upload a grab it with Javascript and send it to the compressor.Upload the compressed file instead of the original one.

I'm looking a quick way to add an (multi) image unloader with client side crop to an ASP.NET MVC site and for some reason the search seems to be much more complicated than I thought upload image (can be via form post or custom, just has to work with ASP.NET)custom crop possibility before upload (preferred) multiple images at once It doesn't matter if js/jquery, silverlight or flash is used, it just has to work, its an internal application and I can force people to have the necessary plugins installed.

I'm trying to create a resizing script for a client that is allowing users to upload photos through their site. SInce most of the photos will be huge this will help in performance. I've had some experience in the saving of a jpeg from Flash but I'm stuck with the scaling. I'm saving the uploaded file to the server. Reloading it into a movie clip, resizing it based on my desired sizes and then saving it back to the server in its new size. When I'm resizing I'm just using the scale properties to resize the loaded large image. When I get my bitmap data of the scale mc it's not taking the data from the scaled clip it's taking the data from the unscaled mc. So my data is basically the upper left hand corner of the original image instead of the whole image.
I've tried nesting the movie clips so that the top clip isn't scaled.I've tried duplicating the data from the scaled clip into a new non scaled clip and that doesn't work either.I've tried not using scale and just using width and height, doesn't work either.

I am having a flash object integrated in my html page. It requires a version of 10 to run it. If the client is not having the flash player of 10 or above, the flash will not come and it will look a bit odd. In that case, I want to show an alternate image. What is the best way to do it?In fact I have the javascript code for it. But I dont know how to utilize it to get what I need.[code]

I'm rather inexperienced with flash and as3, and I've been given a task of writing a program that downloads images from URLs that are provided, and saves them to a specified location on the user's computer.
The idea is to be able to download multiple images (user selects them) and download them all to a single directory (which the user selects first) so that he doesn't have to download them one by one. Also, putting them in an archive and downloading as one file wasn't an option. The only solution I found is using FileReference.save(), which won't work for me because it opens a save dialog.

I'm creating some image uploader in Flex with client-side image processing. Processing consists of two steps:
1. Resizing (solved)
2. Converting resized image (represented by ByteArray in PNG32 with alpha-channel) to gray-scale PNG with bit-depth = 2 and no color-palette. Is there any existing library that is capable of second step? Something like libpng for C++, maybe?Edit:It seem I stumbled upon rarely encountered problem. However my descision was to create an AS3 class that is capable of converting bitmapData to 2bit grayscale PNG. I used standart PNGEncoder and PNG format specification (which is not so good as I expected) as basis.

I'm running a web application built on Seam. I would like to have an image upload + crop component. Preferably on client side, so the image uploaded to the server would be the result of the crop. I read this can be made with Flash 10. I was thinking flex is also a possibility. Does anyone has good hints to give me, what component to choose or what is the best way to connect the backing bean I have with the flash/flex?

I'm looking to develop an application that essentially allows the user to upload their company logo and have it appear on an image to simulate what a product might look like with their branding on if that makes sense. Does this kind of app have a proper name or search term I could work from? Ideally there'd be a prebuilt solution as my flash isn't very good. I have an idea to achieve this with say PHP and a combination of jquery and css but I think a flash solution would be more elegant.

I have been asked to create a photo canvas website that allows users to upload an image, then apply several effects such as re-sizing/cropping/desaturate, then viewing the updated image on a generic wall and going to check out to buy the canvas.Similar site that has the features i want is this : http:[url]....
I am pretty new to web developing/designing, i am confident with html, css and actionscript to an extent, but have only used small parts of php before.how to go between html > php >flash >back to html again. From what i understand i need to create the following functions:
1. Create a general html website which will store the upload form and flash photo editor swf on, when the user first access's the site i start the php session...
2. The user then uploads there image to the server using a simple php upload form which will store the file and create a unique named file also on the server...
3. The flash editor swf will then load up on the html page. Inside the actionscript of the swf i will tell flash to continue with the php session by calling it again and call users image on the server with the 'file reference' command. The editing functions such as cropping, canvas size will all have variables to mark what the user has chosen and these varaibles will get ent back to the html page using php to keep track of them for the checkout process...
4. Once the editing has finished the user will click 'finish' in the swf taking them to the php shopping basket/checkout which will call the variables sent in flash to determine final cost depending on what effects chosen.
Is the above correct and more importantly is it possible? The main part i am struggling to get my head around is editing in flash (say changing the uploaded image to 20 x 26) and then saving this back to the server and sending the new settings back into the html/php page.Is this all possible without using database and tables such as MySql?

I want to embed a flash to my site, that allows the user to paste an image which is in clipboard, and this images will then be uploaded to the server. Is there a script that can do that? i googled for about an hour now, but didn't find anything that fits my needs.
the best thing would be if you also coul crop your image when its uploaded and then save it.
it's most likely to upload screenshots, so that you don't have to first save it, crop it, and then upload it.
