Ok i have been making a website and i need to put a preloader in that loads my website. I have downloaded 3 different preloader and replaced the pic that they had in with my own and when i do that it either no longer works or it has a white screen until about 50% then it does work! WTH is going on??????
View 7 RepliesVery close to finishing this XML menu gallery. Pieced together with Kirupas gallery tutorial and "Claudio's" scrolling script. The layout is complete but unfortunately the functionality (hardest-part) is not.
So what I'm hoping to accomplish... ?
1. Multi gallery functionality (i.e.. menu sys.. Ad / Catalogs / Logo's).
Currently the XML is only set up to load the Advert section and the menu on the right does not yet work independently. In the end i hope to have it load other sections based on the description "Catalogs" would load the catalog section.
2. Simplifying my XML (i.e.. Write it so it's more clearly defined)
I included an example of the XML file I would like to utilize with my FLA. Unfortunately the way the AS is set up currently, I can't simply swap this file out. I'm baffled about the script that drives this functionality.
3. Add NEW feature. (i.e.. Make the menu on right "Ads / Catalogs / Logos") populate with dynamic text from the XML (i.e.. <gallery name="ADVERTS"> ). At the moment this is being populated with an image which proves to be more time consuming to make.
4. "Info" area... need to populate this with text relating to individual parts of gallery.
5. "View"... need to give a larger view of this file on click or rollover - opening another window in flash.
OK, now that i read through this... looks like I have farther to go then I thought.Anyway,I Hope i haven't scared all you flash pro's off...I know this stuff isn't very cut and dry seeing there's many ways to achieve the same goal. Ideally I would like to learn the most efficient method for doing this.
break down preloader into smaller sections so i can understand it better , load a preloader but without the preloader bar graphic and preloader code of the bar and graphic, just see how to transfer the percentage of the movie which has loaded, and by showing the result in the dynamic percent_txt box on stage this preloader i am realy am finding difficult but i so need to understand the concept var percent:Number = Math.floor(_root.getBytesLoaded()/ _root.getBytesTotal()*100);

I have a preloader but its taking too long to load, so is there a way where i can pick how much i want it to be loaded before it starts so the viewer doesnt sit there forever? Ok perhaps ive bitten off too much here...I know you are not supposed to parse xml/html to regex but the thing is there just arent many other options.Im using AS3.im parsing the source of textflowlayout text to a different format.

I just started working on a preloader screen that includes a preloader mask over a logo and a percentage dynamic text. I can get either or to work but not both at the same time. I notice that if I remove stop(); I can get the percentage to work but not the preloader image. With the stop(); embedded the image preloader works but the percentage doesn't.

i tried the tutorial that teaches you how to create a preloader....i followed the instructions and it still doesnt work! what's wrg?[code]on my first frame actions....i put the "gotoAndPlay (36)" cause i tried a previous preloader that took more than 1 frame and didnt want to change my button's "goTo" frames...but i figured it wont change anything..anyways, i put that line of code as my first frame action....by double clicking the timeline..then i create a symbol for that frame 1 and created an animation.

I'm wrapping up a small corporate website, but I left the preloader to do until the very end, so instead of changing any layout of my View, I just moved everything to frame 2, and put the preloader on frame 1. I'm using some of the code here: http:[url].... which seems pretty ace.
The problem I'm having though is that CS5's built in preloader is going and loading the whole swf, then it runs my preloader (on frame 1) which causes it to move strait to frame two instantly (I changed it so now it at least plays through the animation then moves on, but it's still not loading anything during that screen).that is causing flash to load the entire swf before even playing my preloader on frame 1. I don't remember having this problem in CS4.

View 2 RepliesI'm using Adobe Flash CS4 for the first time to try and make an animation set to music (like the opening scene of an anime). I need to listen to specific portions of the song so that I can match the timing of my animations.
I know that you can press Enter and it'll Play, but I don't know how to start listening to the music at the frame I want. I also don't know how to stop the music once it starts playing.
I also know I can do Ctrl+Enter to Test Movie, but that always starts playing my animation from the very beginning.
I want to know how to watch/listen to a specific part of the animation, without having to play it stop to finish.
I know there are softwares which can protect the swf files from decompilers; where the actionscript appears to be gibberish once decompiled. My question is is there any way i can make sure the swf catcher cant find the swf file to download?

I'm using an array to create multiple instances on stage of a movie clip. so for example, i have "apple1", "apple2", "apple3", etc. So if i pick up "apple1" and trace the e.target.name, i'll get "apple1". but what if i just want to trace just the "apple" part? Can I ask AS3 just to read the first 5 characters (in the big picture i want to compare items in a drag and drop type game)? I'm not 100% sold that this is the best approach of how I want to do this...but now curiosity has me at least interested.
