I'm using FFmpeg to do some video analysis on my PC but I'd like to see if I can do something similar in the browser using Flash.
Does Flash offer any way to take a video file as input, crack it open, and get access to the pixel data?
I am looking for a fairly simple image comparison method in AS3. I have taken an image from a web cam (with no subject) passed it in to bitmap data, then a second image is taken (this time with a subject) to compare this data, from these two images I would like to create a mask from the pixels that match on both bitmaps. I have been scratching my head for a while, and I am not really making any progress. Could any one point me in the right direction for pixel comparison method, something like getPixel32()

View 3 Repliesi've filled a circle shape with the bitmap data of a bitmap asset.i need to rotate the circle from the center, so i added the bitmap to the center of the circle and used a matrix transformation to shift the bitmapdata upward and leftward so it appears centered.
now i'm trying to read the bitmap data with getPixel() but the return value is off since it is returning the untransformed position of the bitmap data instead of the visible transformed bitmapdata.

Would it be possible to analyse a jpeg to see what colour or colours are more prominent and use them for further purposes. One implementation I am trying todo is have text go over changing images, keeping the text the same colour leaves problems with readablity with say a black-ish or white-ish backing. Just something that I would like, not entirely sure if its possible or how it could be done.

According to the NetStream API, Flash can play LOCAL RAW video by calling ns.play("raw:filename");.My question is how can Flash play RAW video data from a ByteArray? I have basically set my NetStream object to data generation mode by calling play(null), but whenever I call ns.appendBytes(byteArray) nothing is happening because apparently, appendBytes only support FLV data. how can I make Flash play raw video data from a ByteArray?

Without getting into the details of why (its for school) I'm trying to use a custom preloader I've created to load a Flash video.I've created the animations, and the loader functions, but on the Event.COMPLETE event, how do I pass the data I've loaded into myUrlLoader to an FLVPlayback component?Or should I even be using the FLVPlayback component? I create a video in Flash using import->video. I select my .flv file and a skin.The .flv is on my hard drive. The component parameters reflects this location.I want to upload the video to my web server to display on my MovableType blog.
If I change the properties in Flash to reflect the server location Flash says "could not upload video." So I kept the component property to reflect the location on my C drive.I import that Flash media into dreamweaver to get the HTML code for my site.It works fine when I preview in Dreamweaver.I thought I could then change the code to reflect the new location of the file.I have done this using an online embedding program, but then I have no skin or ability for user to control playback.So I can get the video to the web with an online embedder,but the code generated by Dreamweaver does not work. The frame for the video appears, but there is no content.
I want to add tracking to our Flash-based media player so that we can provide analytics that show what sections of videos are being watched (at the moment, we just register a view when a video starts playing)
For example, if a viewer watches the first 30 seconds of a video and then clicks away to something else, we want the data to reflect that. Likewise, if someone watches the first 10 seconds, then scrubs the timeline to the last minute of the video and watches that, we want to register viewing on the parts watched and not the middle section.
My first thought was to collect up the viewing data in the player and send it all to the server at the end of a viewing session. Unfortunately, Flash does not seem to have an event that you can hook into when a viewer clicks away from the page the movie is on (probably a good thing - it would be open to abuse)
So, it looks like we're going to have to make regular requests to the server as the video is playing. This is obviously going to lead to a high volume of requests when there are large numbers of simultaneous viewers.
The simple approach of dumping all these 'heartbeat' events from clients to a database feels like it will quickly become unmanageable so I'm wondering whether I should be taking an approach where viewing sessions are cached in memory and flushed to database when they become inactive (based on a timeout). That way, the data could be stored as time spans rather than individual heartbeats.
I'm now saving the snapshot this way:

Is it possible to investigate an html page that views a video streaming data using flash, and then use these data to view it on the phone? For example Al Jazeera website has a streaming service. I've looked through the html page and other resources using chrome developers tools. I found a lot of data, but couldnt figure it out which data I need.

This has worked fine in all major browsers (IE7/8,Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera) for some time, but when I upgraded to IE9, the banner is displayed with a 1 pixel shim on the right-hand edge, which is throwing the layout off.know past versions of IE would display line breaks as white space and I wonder if that's what's going on here. View 2 RepliesI'm making a matrix effect thing using AS3. Everything is going good except for color transitions.
Basically i have two bitmap images, one is where the leading white letters are falling, another is where the letters are printed on to, and i use a color matrix filter to slowly fade the letters away and tint its color.
And this tinting of color is what im having problems with right now. My method works for colors like 0x00FF00, 0xFF0000, or any colors with only 0s and Fs. Other colors with hex values between F and 0 will inevitably turn into a color of 0s and Fs or jus turn black, due to ...

my idea right now is to scan through each pixel and add its RGB component individually checking if it has reached the designated value or not, but ive no idea how to go about doing this and i think it might cause lagg.

I'm making an arcade game in as3 and I want to draw pixely(unsmoothed by flash) lines. I'm drawing the pixels 'by hand'(not with flash's lineTo or anything) onto a bitmapdata object. The lines don't appear quite right though, when zoomed out the line is rendered 2 pixels thick at some parts. However by zooming it its apparent that the algorithm is fine and its not doubling the pixels. Changing the quality doesn't seem to change anything.

I was told the pixel detection is costly for regular windows games. Is this the same for flash ?? Or would pixel detection be lighter compared to other detections flash has to offer. Flash has the getPixel32 method which makes it easy for detecting pixels. If I am bliting my game, would it be wise to use getPixel32 for collision detection. Or should I just check for specific tiles?? Is getPixel32 limited to the display object it is in ?? In other words, can I detect any pixel regardless of what layer it is on in the display list.I probably can figure this out on my own but I want to ask first to save me some time. But does anyone have any code or good sources on how to go about doing this if it is reasonable.

We create Flash games which are embedded within third party wrapper SWF files, which are exported for FP9.
If I create an FP10 SWF which uses Pixel Bender classes (Shader, ShaderData), when I run them in an FP9 wrapper within an FP10 player, an error is thrown
VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.display::Shader could not be found.
Is there any way to get access to these FP10 classes - or does the version of the outermost wrapper determine what's available to child SWFs? Is this something to do with applicationDomain?
What are current pixel limits on bitmaps in Flash?
