Actionscript 3 :: Assign A Request Timeout For Adobe Air URLRequest And Get The Response Without Using EventListne?r
Mar 13, 2012
Below code is used to read a file in the disk and upload as 1MB chunks to a php server via adobe AIR application.It iterates the do/while loop till the end of the file and uploading part is handled by function getConnection. The servers returns an XML as the response.With the eventListnters currently it goes to fuction onRequestComplete when it recieves the response. Because of that issue current code exits the loop when it receives the response from the server.Is there any way that I can get the responce of the request send by the function getConnection when it calling inside function startUpload ? also hw can I define the request timeout for this single requests?
private function startUpload():void {
var localFilePath:String =localFilesToUpload[currentUploadedVideoIndex].file.nativePath;
var filePathArray = localFilePath.split("/");[code]......

Try to set the timeout for my URLRequest via
Code:
var tempURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest (path);
tempURLRequest.idleTimeout = 2000;
But it doesn't work. Thus: How can I set/change/get the timeout for URLRequests? I need this since I start many parallel URLRequests and on slow connections I get an IOError URL not found error due to the long time they are on stack (I assume).

I'm writing URLRequests to the server (to return XML). The code works fine. I'm able to retrieve and use the XML. The problem is that (at least in the development environment) the Flash player caches the response. The result is that subsequent requests of the same URL don't hit the server. This is a problem as I'm developing the server side scripts and they're not perfect the first time :-). Is there a way to: 1. clear the cache, or 2. tell Flash not to cache results?

I'm writing a google gdata API client in Flash/AS2 (sadly, moving to AS3 is not an option at this time). Logging in via ClientLogin works fine but subquent requests will return a 302 redirect that includes a gsessionid I am supposed to include with future requests to avoid the 302s.
Flash/AS2, AFAIK, does not allow me to actually query an http error response body in any way, so there's no way for me to actually see this gsessionid after the 302 is returned. Is there a gdata api call which will return me a valid gsessionid inside an HTTP 200 response if I already have a valid GoogleLogin auth token, or is this not possible without a man-in-the-middle proxy?

I tried using both HTTPService and URLRequest/URLLoader. But I can't figure out how to get either the response output or the response headers in case of a server error(like 500).

I am using ActionScript 2.0 for my app development. I have checked XML and LoadVars class. These classes by default send/receive data either in XML or name/value pair format. I want to send data in JSON format and receive the response in JSON format. How can I achieve this behavior using AS2.0. I have noticed that AS3.0 has the capabilities to do so. My client platform doesn't support AS3.0.

I've created an RSS reader by going through this very useful tutorial: http://www.webdesignermag.co.uk/blog/build-an-adobe-air-rss-reader.I've adapted it to my needs but now I'm struggling to add buttons to link to other websites. I've added 4 more buttons (link_mc_ videos, link_mc_images, etc) and added new variables (url2, url3, url4 + url5) but when I click on the buttons they all go to the first URL I specify - can anyone help? Here is my actionscript:
/* blog link */ link_mc.buttonMode=true; link_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, linkMouseDown);
function linkMouseDown(evt:MouseEvent):void {
var url="http://www.popularmechanics.co.za/page/blogs"; var request:URLRequest=new URLRequest(url);[code].....

I am unable to produce the kind of synchronization effects I would like to in ActionScript. The issue is that I need to make several external calls to get various pieces of outside information in response to a user request, and the way items will be laid out on the page is dependent on what each of these external calls returns. So, I don't care that all of these calls return asynchronously. However, is there any way to force some amount of synchronization on ActionScript, so that at least calling the method for doing the final layout and placement of items on the page is dependent on all of my calls finishing?

I have a pure AS3 app that I'm deploying to both Android and iOS. In some cases I need the screen to not turn off for 60+ seconds. Is there a way to do this with AIR for mobile?

I know this should be do-able, but i am stumped... I created a row of movie clip buttons + eventListeners (CLICK) with a for-loop. i now want to take an array that consists of a list of swfs (i.e., var myArray:Array=new Array(); myArray=["thing.swf","dog.swf",more.swf",etc}--and programmatically assign a loader + URL request to each of the created movie clip buttons that will load the swfs on the button click.

I've been able to figure out how to call the Flickr API with the Adobe Lib and get a response...I can get the description, id, etc. But now I'm trying to figure out how to load in the actual photo and add it to the stage.
function loadStartingPhoto():void
{
service.addEventListener(FlickrResultEvent.PHOTOS_GET_INFO, handlePhotoGetInfo);[code]....
I'm starting to think that in order to pull in the actual photo, I need to get it by way of a URLRequest. But that's not how any of the other tutorials are doing it... or maybe they are...

Im trying to make a HTTP Request in Adobe Flex (Actionscript) as follows:
var p:PersonSearchController = new PersonSearchController();
showAlertDialog();
p.search(sc);
alert.cancel();
navigator.pushView(views.PersonSearchResults, +p.getResp());
So basically, before the search we get a "Searching..." AlertDialog box, once the search is complete, the dialog box disappears and the results screen is pushed onto the screen...
Here is the search method:
function search{
var requestSender:URLLoader= new URLLoader();
dispatcher.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
[Code].....
p.getResp() is nothing as the response hasn't came back yet. I want the program to basically block until the HTTPResponse is received so I can process the results. At the moment the Popup appear and disappears quickly, and in the background the search goes off and makes the request... I get the response but only after the results screen has been pushed out. How can I make the popup block until we have a HTTPresponse?

I'm looking at writing an app with Adobe AIR, but I wanted to figure out if this is feasible with the platform first. (Mostly new to Flash and AIR).What I would like to do is know ahead of time what local port a URLRequest will be using. If possible, I would like to hold a connection open even and keep using the same socket.What I'm basically trying to accomplish is doing some NAT-Traversal and port negotiation ahead of time. Once I have both the client and the server negotiated, I'd like them to connect and basically use HTTP in a peer-to-peer way to stream media, like this sample:
var s = new air.Sound();
var url = "http://www.example.com/sounds/bigSound.mp3";
var req = new air.URLRequest(url); [code].........
The problem is that I don't see this happening unless I can get some information from AIR on what ports it's planning to use. I would be OK with creating my own Socket connections to the server and using them, but I would need a way to leverage the Sound framework to stream in the same way from a socket.

I am working on a flash website that loads live inventory data from a public csv file publish by google docs. the csv file is located at a public address on google docs server:[URL].. I am using a URLloader and URLrequest within my flash movie to grab this data and assign it to different variables.
It works great when I preview the movie in flash. However, when I go to publish the movie and preview the html file its loaded into in dreamweaver, I get a security warning from adobe flash player: Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation
I went ahead and published the html file that contains the swf file to the web, and when I go to my site, I don't even get the flash player warning; it just sits there like its trying to load the URLrequest and never completes.
I understand that flash player has a security measures that prevents flash files from accessing files outside of the server directory that the swf file is published to. I know you can create policy xml files to tell flash it's okay to load the data, but those policy files have to be located on the public server from which the data is being grabbed. But it's not like I can waltz on to google's servers a stick a policy file in there!
Is there any way to tell the flash player it's okay to load this data without getting that security error? I can't have the end user having to go into their flash settings and adding the location manually. I just need it to work without the security warning.
Is there another method of loading data from an external server without tripping up flash player security? aka, something other than URLloader and URLrequest?

When Flex application make an asynchronus HTTP request, does it add a special header to the request, like some JavaScript framework does? Something that indicates whether this request is an AJAX call/not.I just want my server side code to return different response format, depending on whether the request is made from browser/flex.

I'm trying to reproduce a POST request that was captured from WireShark using PHP. This POST request was sent by a Flash (.swf) object, so it's a little bit complicated in configuring the header.It does not print out anything in the end, so there must be something wrong with PHP code that I could not see.Here is what WireShark captured:
POST /engine/ HTTP/1.1
Host: abcdef.com
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8[code]....
The result is a blank page instead of response from server.

main problem lies within the 15 second timeout.trying to create a 10,000 x 10,000 2d array with just 0's are placeholders for data.i tried just going with a 2d loop of 0-9999. tried going with a 4d loop like this 0-999+(0-9*1000)
k and kk = 0-9
n and nn = 0-999
array_ar[n+(k*1000)][nn+(kk*1000)]=0;
both time out. i even tried seperating the 4d variety into 2 function passing it back and forth. is there a way to turn off the timeout? or a way to pause the looping every so often. I was thinking about creating the first function that does a 2d loop of 0-999 then at the end of it returns a value to another function that passes the 0-9*1000 part back to the first one? maybe this would create a pause reseting the timeout. but none of that would be needed if the timeout could be disabled.

I'm doing a kiosk project that has 11 scenes that house about 70 videos for playback. I need to include a timeout function that needs to revert back to screen #1 if there is no mouse activity for around 8 minutes. There is another timeout script in scene #2 that forwards ahead to scene #3 if no activity within 30 seconds. The timeouts do seem to work, they go to and stop where they're supposed to but then they seem to rerun themselves so that several are running at the same time. When I click into other scenes which
start the videos, then they will quit and jump back to screen #1 after 30 seconds or so.

I'm running a recursive function which in the worst case senario is of factorial order. (i.e: runs itself n! times)As soon as n exceeds 7 in these worst case senario's the function times out (Error #1502). I want to handle this error event so that the user can be presented with an error that the problem is too complex.I don't want to extend the timeout period as 15 seconds is reasonable.
