There are so many different mehods, extending the Event class, but also Extending the EventDispatcher class, very confusing! I want to settle with this once and for all and learn the appriopate technique.

View 4 RepliesI have the gun all coded and setup, it's an automatic weapon that fires at the mouse as long as you hold down the trigger, seems simple enough. It updates the target point whenever the user clicks or moves the mouse.My problem though, is that it can't so easily update the target when the user moves their avatar via keyboard keys. As they do this, the target remains at a constant point in worldspace, getting farther and farther from the mouse pointer until they click again or move the mouse. While not a huge issue, this is annoying.A dirty solution I can think of would be updating the target point according to camera movement so that it should follow the mouse even when the mouse isn't moving. This solution seems like a lot of unnecessary work though and I'd like to explore the apparently simpler route first.

How can I check if the stage contains a movieclip on a specific x and y location on the stage?I'm building a colour-guessing game. The purpose is to walk a path through a generated field of hexagons, each assigned a random colour (yellow, red, blue or green), based on what soundfile you hear. So if you hear "yellow", you have to click a yellow tile etc.But because I want it to be a path, and the colours of the tiles are randomly generated, I have to check which colours border the currently active tile. I literally have no idea how to do this. I thought this might work but it doesnt:

However, it won't open in the browser in a different location. If I add a mouse-click event listener to both component(click-listener1) and icon(click-listener2), the event dispatched sequence is click-listener2, then click-listener1. I can understand it. But if I add a custom event to component (listener1), and mouse-click event to icon(listener2), when icon is clicked, the component will dispatch the custom event. In my test, the event dispatched sequence is listener1, then listener2. It doesn't match with event-bubbles rule.
In my opinion The custom event is dispatched in listener2, which triggers listener1. Why event flow sequence is not listener2, listener1?

The PREVIOUS button starts at the beginning of the called movie. I need it to start at a specific location. Is that doable? If yes, how? I have a flash file that calls a XML file to give it commands, such as color etc...
I want to change the name of the XML file, but am not sure how to change it in flash so that the SWF knows where to find the XML.
I have been working with xml sheets to load a menu and in order to load a submenu or to go to a submenu of a submenu, I was wondering if it is possible to load a variable location for an xml.
For example, if I had the variable xmllocation which was a string that said where in an xml a certain menu was, is it possible to use the xmllocation variable for something like this:
( if xml.xmllocation.length() > 0 ) do something;
whenever I tried messing around with it, it would actually go to look for "xmllocation" in the xml instead of check what the string is. So what I guess I am really asking is, is there a way to tell it not to be so literal?
I know the basics of tweening with action script but I have a picture set in the center of the stage at x = 50. On a click I would like that picture move - 10 x from that position so it will end the tween at 40. On a different button I would like to do the oppositie, + 10 x to its current position so if it was at 40 it would be back to the start and if it was at the start it would be at 60.

I am trying to duplicate a movie clip several times (to create a wallpaper from a background tile). However I'm running all code from the first frame of the file on the _root level, but the MC I am targeting is nested deeper. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I just cannot get the duplicated MCs to stay at the same location is the MC I am cloning!
The clip I want to clone is _root.core.bg.tile I want the duplicates to reside in _root.core.bg with names such as...
_root.core.bg.tile_2
_root.core.bg.tile_3 etc

I posted this question a few days ago but didn't get a response, so I think perhaps I put it in too specific a context. I thought I'd try again and couch the question in more general terms this time. Unfortunately I can't move on with my work until I get this issue solved!
What I need to do is find a way to see if there is a MovieClip at a particular spot. So, say I have a random point and a bunch of random MovieClips. At this random point, there may be any of the MovieClips or there may not. I won't know what these are in advance. I need the ActionScript to tell me if there is ANY MovieClip at this random spot - and, if there is, what MovieClip it is.
I have most of the basics down in actionscripting. I want to learn a little bit more on if else statements. I have an issue right now that I am pretty sure needs to use the if else statement.
What I have is an FLV playing in a browser. When that FLV is done playing, I want it to getURL to a different location. So basically when the FLV is done it goes to the next HTML page.

The a1 is what I want to change, I've got a global variable that changes to a1, a2, a3, etc, on another function The global variable I'm using is _global.aChoice

The one thing that I can't figure out... is where they put the customized scrollbars they made for my site. There are some scrollPane components in the library, but I can't see where he put the custom scrollbars. The homepage link is here:The blue scrollbars are what I'm trying to find. When I add more content I want to be able to use the same scrollbars. If you need the FLA, I'll send it to you.
