Actionscript 3 :: Defining A Static Constant Array?

May 21, 2010

is it not possible to define a static const array? i would like to have an optional parameter to a function that is an array of colors,

private static const DEFAULT_COLORS:Array = new Array(0x000000, 0xFFFFFF);
public function myConstructor(colorsArray:Array = DEFAULT_COLORS)
{

ActionScript 3.0 :: Reference Static Constant Name In XML?

Mar 16, 2010

maybe this is something small I'm overlooking, but I can't figure out how to pull this offI have an XML file that keeps data on my tilesheets. Currently it keeps info on the width and height of the tiles (works fine), but I also want to tell my program what part of ananimation it belongs to. I have a class set up that keeps some constants on the state of the object, that will decide it's animation. For example, if the state equals"PlatformState.WALKING", I alternate between tiles 1, 2 and 3, if the state is"PlatformState.FALLING", It alternates between 4 and 5.The static constant PlatformState.WALKING is a uint with value 0, FALLING has value 1, etc. But I don't want to put the rough values in the XML, but the constant names.

Actionscript 3 :: Bubble Pop Game / Defining ToString Method Through Reference With A Static Type Class

Apr 3, 2012

I have the actionscript code here for a bubble popping game. When the game starts, bubbles fall down from the top of the game to the bottom and score is kept for the most bubbles clicked or popped in 30 seconds.The size of the bubble is defined by the initialize method in the code, and uses ToString() to calculate the score. ToString gives me a 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method Random through a reference with static type uint. This error which I cannot figure out where it comes from.[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Defining An Element In An Array?

Oct 4, 2011

I have an array, created as:

ActionScript Code:
myArray:Array = new Array(10)

pretty much just saying there is 10 elements in it. I define each function as "land", for example. Then in the same function I redefine a random element as "water".

(It is a bit more complex, this is simplified!)

Upon executing this I get the error:

ActionScript Code:
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.

if I put the second bit in a new function (the random water part), there is no problems and it executes perfectly. Obviously I cant define an element twice in the same function.

Actionscript 3 :: Defining An XML Format For A 2D Array (Grid) Of Items

Sep 11, 2010

I need to define an XML format and then read it in ActionScript3, which will be storing:the number of rows and columns in a grid the horizontal and vertical spacing in pixels the size of each square in the grid in pixels an optional label for each square in the grid an optional hyperlink for each square in the grd.The following is the kind of thing that would meet my needs at the moment, which demonstrates the four square types:[code]

My questions are things akin to "Should there be units on the spacing and size? (like 10px or 300px)" and "How bad would it be to use a XHTML subset of (table, td, tr with a elements in each cell)."But really I'm fishing for any precedent, ideas, or best practices. Particularly as they are relevant to processing such a file in ActionScript3. The goal is to be able to read the grid properties and to define a function that will give back a square's label and url given a row and column. (The easy thing about this format is that getting a square is just a matter of indexing into children of the grid node by integer... first column, then row.)

Actionscript :: Flex - Defining Indexed Array - Using Multidimensional Arrays

I have problems defining indexed array with actionscript. The task is following. I have a board of point objects. I need to store them into one array, so I can access each point using simply it x,y coordinates. for example to get point one I want to be able use points[1][1], etc. I read the doc here [URL], and realized that I don't understand how to initialize array for my needs. (Especially when it can contain from 10 to 15 rows and columns, so it will be quite hard to use following notation: masterTaskList[0] = ["wash dishes", "take out trash"];, as suggested in docs.) Actionscript 3 :: Reference To Public Static Var In Array Not Working?

The problem I'm having is I can't seem to reference the vars dynamically in an array, making it impossible to give them values without some serious procdedural style coding.

This is what it looks like

Flash :: Use Xml, A Class Object Or Static Array To Load Information?

Dec 14, 2011

I'm currently writing a feature for an interactive periodic table which dynamically displays the name of the element and other properties when you hover over the element. I have thought of three ways to do this and I am wondering which is the best, memory-wise and speed-wise, for loading this information.

make a class with an array ( new Array("hydrogen", "helium", "lithium",...etc.)), instantiating it, then accessing the info with object.arr[i] make a class with a static array (otherwise, same as no.1), importing it, then accessing the info with class.arr[i] put the information into an external xml file and accessing it from there. The 3rd method seems excessive as you have to go through the hassle of adding event listeners for URLloader every time. Is there any difference between the 1st and 2nd way? (What is happening in terms of memory when you are importing a class - is the entire array added to memory?)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Static Variable - Access Buffer Array From The Particlecontainer Class

Dec 19, 2010

I'm currently working on a particle system for a game that I recently started development on, but I've hit a snag: I have a class particlecontainer that tells each particle what to do on enterframe, and which contains each particle as a child. I also have a class (mischandler) which has a static array that contains all current particles, as well as another static array that is a buffer to remove particles from the particlecontainer. Whenever a particle "dies", it calls a function which adds it to the buffer array in mischandler. However, when I try to access this buffer array from the particlecontainer class it does not recognize it as having any elements. If this is unclear here's a simpler explanation:

particlecontainer tells a particle to do it's enterframe function particle calls die() and adds itself to the removebuffer inside mischandler particle container tries to access mischandler.removebuffer but removebuffer has no elements Strangely, the particle can access the removebuffer perfectly fine and sees all the elements in it.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Static Function Can't Find Non-static Functions

Jan 6, 2010

Ok, so I have a bit of a mess here (Which I'm probably not doing right anyway, which could be my problem...). I have a document class, I'll call it as Body.as, that creates an object from another class known as Headgear.as. There are also other objects created from other classes, or will be in the future. Now, amoung all this, Headgear.as and all of the other classes Body.as will use to make objects require the use of dragging functions (starting and stopping dragging). On stopping drags, position checks are then made to compare a particular hidden movieclip with the dragged MC.

To try and save myself some hassle (from making the same functions over and over to ensuring that when the objects are created I don't need to send a complete crapload of variables just to ensure the position checking function would work), I had the functions for the event listeners (Which are set-up on the draggable MCs in Headgear.as) just direct to functions in Body.as

ActionScript 3.0 :: Static Class Needs A Non-static Function

Nov 22, 2009

Alright, so I have a class that is linked (via the linkage panel) to a scrollbox class. I'll paste the class here:[code]Ignoring the formatting, the commented out functions are the ones causing the issue. Adobe says that it's a static class and I can't use non-static functions. The way I wanted to use it was:

1. Call the page button generating function above.

2. In the main code in my program is this line:scrollbox.setClickFunction(historyContent.generate Page);So when the buttons that are supposed to be generated are clicked, the scrollbox class can call the History pages generatePage function and pass it which page to show. (I did this because there was a lot of text and a limit on how much would display, so small chunks sounded logical).

3. In the onClick function (which I haven't finished yet because the rest wont work), when you click one of the buttons it calls the set function. Its that simple.

ActionScript 2.0 :: [MX] - Defining Variables In A For Loop?

Something like:

for (var i:Number = 1; i < 6, i++) {
var cColor+i = new Color(eval("mcBut"+i).mcFill);
}
