I am thoroughly surprised that there is no Flash Hidden Features post yet in the Hidden Features series that I've been tracking for a while now. There is a recent AS3/Flex one but it's not very active and I don't exactly mean just AS3 when I say Flash here.The Hidden Features series is great for people who are new to a certain language. It shows the ropes and certain valuable tricks, all in one place. I think it's a brilliant idea. Even experts sometimes find tricks they'd never heard about.When I started with Flash, I was taken aback by the Flash IDE and odd concepts of Flash, compared to other programming languages.what are some hidden features of Flash as a language (AS2/3) and the Flash IDE?

What are some of the hidden features of MXML? What existing features are not well known but very useful?MXML being used in Flex Framework became quite popular language because Flash Player is something every PC has and Flash Builder and Flash Catalist are quite popular Adobe programs.specify one feature per answer, and read all answers before posting a dupliate.It's not always a great idea to use these hidden features; often times they are surprising and confusing to others reading your code.

I am new in flash AS3 and I have made a little game. I want you to make corrections, optimize script, give advices how to make something easier. Also, in left down corner, there is score text and try this: take 100 score, than hit enemy, than take 200 score and hit enemy again. you will get error. I've been given a Flash tutorial to post to the corporate website that is an .exe file with an embedded Flash player. Users will be on IE, so I guess they would get the run/save prompt. I don't like this and I know it generally isn't done, but I need to know if it is OK to just do it. When I try to explain the security issues with executable files, eyes glaze. Is it possible that the users' system admins would be able to block the run prompt and make the user save the file? Could they block that too? The user community is hopeless, so having the embedded Flash player could be a good thing.

I am designing a website with flash video content. If I pass in the URL to a .flv file as a flash parameter to the embedded video player someone can easily extract the URL and download the flv video file. How to do I prevent this? Can someone refer me to anti-leeching techniques being used my websites like youtube.

I'm using the the Adobe ActionScript 3 SDK for Facebook Platform to get all the tagged photos of the current user. Is this possible?
I've tried this:
FacebookDesktop.api("/"+uid+"/photos",getTagedPhotosHandler);
But that only gets me the photos belonging to that user.

Does anybody use bare .SWF files as webpages? I know it's possible; it seems to work fine for me. Why would I embed a SWF inside an HTML page if it's just going to be full screen (I mean the size of the browser's normal viewable page area, not COMPLETELY fullscreen)?
Is there a lack of browser support? Or is this functionality determined by the browser's Flash plugin?

I want to have a web site which switches the web camera of users, makes a video recording and send results to my web server.Is it possible to do that? I think it should be. For example such sites as chatroulette.com starts web camera. Should it be done with the Adobe Flash technologies? Is it hard to do that?

If I load a web page full of other files, e.g. images, my browser doesn't load them all at once.I seem to remember reading that IE will only have at most 3 requests open at a time for a page. The rest will be queued.If I have a flash movie on the page which is continually making image requests, how does this affect the maximum number of downloading files in the browser?
Is this browser limit accurate, and is it generally the same across browsers? Does flash share the requests of the browser? If not, does flash have a limit and what is that limit?
For some background, I do have a flash movie that is continually loading files so there is a queue of Loaders waiting to make requests.My idea was that if there was a different request that I needed to be executed straight away I could make it jump the queue by making a javascript call and allowing the browser to make the request instead.

I am considering upgrading my copy of Flash Builder to 4.5, and would like a list of the new features in the new version before I commit. I have heard that the ASUnit tests integrate better than previously, and that there are some nice features like quick fixes, is there anything else? Finally, based on your experiences using it, are there any shortcomings to look out for / avoid?

I heard somewhere that the introduction of CS4 released some new AS3 features that Flash CS3 didn't have. I haven't been interested in learning what they were until now. Is this some mistake on my part or did they really release new features?

So there's a lot of great new features supported by Flash Player 11.2, particularly for game development which is great news for myself.
Some reading here. Highlights:
Right-click is enabled now (finally). Much better rendering performance.
This is all wonderful and magical, however I can't work out how to compile to Flash Player 11.2, and can't find much information about it.
In publish settings, this is all I get:
Using Flash CS5.5 Version 11.5.1.349 (latest).
Do I need to wait for CS6 or am I missing something?

Apparently Adobe added more features in flash video with each successive flash version, so earlier versions of flash video are only compatible with the same earlier version of the flash player. I'm trying to find out which video features are compatible with each of the flash players. This is because I want to create video for the lowest possible version of the flash player, so more people will be able to view it.

In a market where everyone gets a cut, adobe is claiming that charging will make flash better, but from where I am standing it makes it worse. For example if I am using flash to develop a Facebook game, Facebook already takes a 30 percent cut, then on top of it having to pay 9 percent to adobe? that's a huge deal and an immediate turn off.Now they say that air will be unaffected, but I can only assume that if air on mobile becomes at all successful, what will stop them from doing the same?
I have been an enthusiastic flash developer for years and have been fully behind air for mobile development but this move may be a death blow as far as I am concerned. Adobe, if you care about your feature, please don't do this . . . You will drive people away from your product instead of bringing them closer.

I have a page that uses the jQuery.swfobject plugin to embed 5 flash items into a page and each flash item has a callback using externalInterface. The callbacks work when I have the js function outside of $(document).ready(function() but the jQuery animations do not fire - the ajax load however does. Does anyone know how to get the animations working too, code below:

I'd like to know if it is possible to enable/disable some piece of code according to Flash Player version in ActionScript 3.
Let's say; I have a custom class customClass that uses flash.media.Microphone. The Microphone class has a property isSupported which is available for Flash Player version 10.1 and above (as stated in the documentation). I implement this property in my customClass... so:

Are there any programs or features in flash that can simplify flash vector art?
I just realized that one of the reasons why my program might be running so slow is that I made the images out of lots and lots of circles. When things didn't look right I often just put larger circles over smaller ones. I didn't think that flash might still be drawing the invisible circles underneath-

This is a custom flash template I downloaded, when you watch/use the template you can see about me, and all the text in it, however when I attempt to edit it to my specs, I see the frame where it is located, but I cannot edit any text, because I can't SEE any text!!So basically, in editing mode, I don't see any text to edit, but when using the template, I see a lot of info... I have no idea what to do, and please keep in mind I am in no means a professional, or even intermediately good with Flash...

I have 2 divs each containing SWFObjects. Here's the jquery that shows/hides my Divs:

But I need my video in DIV2 to STOP PLAYING when it's hidden, and start from the beginning when you show it again. From what I read, I need to remove it from the DOM...but I don't understand how to re-add it. I've seen suggestions for detach(); but can't figure out where my AppendTo() would go.

I have a flash file that is in a div that is hidden when the page is loaded with the css property display:none. The div with the flash content is then shown at a later stage through javascript.
When will the flash file load? Ideally, I only want it to load when the div is shown.

I am trying to make a flash file open a specific xml file from a URL that is set in the php file. when a the page is loaded, the php file is called for the variable. you must use a query line in the URL....example : [URL]
the php file should see the 'folder' variable and use it in the url that i want to load the xml file from. Once the variable is set in the php file, i want to transfer it to the swf file without having to change the url that the user types.
Here is basically what i want to do....
i want to be able to type in www.mysite.com/test.swf?folder=MyFolder in the browser. the php file will check some stuff in the mysql database and make sure that the user's space is not used up.....i can do that part with the space. If the user's space is not used up, it will post a variable to the swf file to load the xml file with the 'folder' variable in the url.. example :.com/TheFolderVariable/thexmlfile.xml Once the variable is passed to the swf file, it will load properly.
I was trying to use the loadVars() and the loadVariable() commands but i cannot get the php file to post back to the swf.
