Actionscript 3 :: Loading External .swf File In Air Application Causing Looping Constructor

Apr 19, 2011

I'm building an Air application (straight AS3 no flex) that embeds and displays a .swf file. [code]Not only does this not add the .swf file to the display list like I want it to but it seems to run over and over again. "hello" fills up the output window from the trace statement like it's running every frame.The code loads a .jpg just fine so it must be a problem specific to flash files. I would think I would get some kind of security error if there was a conflict not this strange looping constructor. Does anybody have any ideas what is causing this behavior?So I think what was happening is that because both flash files shared the same application domain and they both had "Main.as" as the main class file it was running the constructor over and over again.I've updated my code above to show my unsuccessful attempts to load the external .swf with a different application domain.

Flash Looping Causing Variable To Add Values Constantly

Jan 15, 2011

Flash keeps looping which is causing certain variables to add values constantly. E.g.
if (userWord.text == word){
score = score + 1;
trace(score);
}
That will constantly add one to "score" when a certain word is typed into a text box. How do I add one to "score" without stopping the application or playing it once?

var J:Loader=new Loader();

In another class I have this statement where I set the value of some date in my shared object. I have to comment the following lone of code out in order for the application not to crash after a short while:

so.data.rArray = currentRecs;          // the culprit I see the first trace in the removeRec function but then nothing. I expect to see the second trace indicating that the array of current recordings taking place (currentRecs) has been cut back by one.

Originally my function was not static and my application crashed very quickly. By making the function static the situation improved insofar as it took longer for the application to crash. Flash seems to be very particular about the way it handles shared objects.

XML :: Loading File In Flex Before Application Start / Initializes

Jul 22, 2009

I've got a configuration xml file that I need to parse for values before a flex application loads. I've created a static class that allows for the values in the xml config file to be retrieved. I'm initializing this class when the application first loads but as the xml file is loaded with a Loader class that loads a synchronously the class is being asked for values before the xml file is actually loaded - so it is throwing a error. Is there a way to load this xml file synchronously. We cannot embed the file as a class variable as we need to be able to change the values remotely.

Xml :: Loading A Configuration File BEFORE The Flex Application Loads?

Apr 19, 2010

We are using an XML file as an external configuration file for several parameters in our application (including default values for UI components and properties values of some service layer objects). The idea is to be able to load the XML configuration file before the flex application initializes any of its components. This is crucial because XML loading is processed a-synchronously in flex, which can potentially cause race-conditions in the application.

For example: the configuration file holds the endpoint URL of a web service used to obtain data from the server. The URL resides in the XML because we want to allow our users to alter the endpoint URL according to their environment. Now because the endpoint URL is retrieved only after the XML has been completely loaded, some of the application's components might be invoking operations on this web service before it is initialized with the correctendpoint.The trivial solution would have been to suspend the initialization of the application until the complete event is dispatched by the loader. But it appears that this solution is far from being trivial. I haven't found a single solution that allows me to load the XML before any other object in the application.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Background Loading Causing Animation Slowdown?

Feb 9, 2009

I am using Bulkloader [URL] to load in a succession of 10 images whilst the main elements of my site have already been preloaded. It is required that these images are not loaded within the preloader as they are large in size and this will increase the wait to an unacceptable level. They are not added to the display list upon succesful load but instead are added at a later time.

The problem I am having is that the menu navigation of the site is slowed down considerably and looks sluggish if the user navigates around whilst the images are being loaded in the background. Once loading stops everything is fluid and smooth. The animations are being carried out using a combination of timeline and Tweener.

Firstly, does anyone know if this is normal behaviour? I don't see why something being loaded should interfere with something moving on the screen, they are doing completely different tasks so I am a bit puzzled as to why they seem to clash.

Secondly, can anyone suggest a feasible workaround? I have been experimenting with using BulkLoader's pauseAll and resumeAll methods and have had some success by detecting mouse events and pausing/resuming as and when required, but it is proving a lot more complicated than I feel it should be, especially as I don't think loading should be affecting animation in the first place.

I have tried loading the images in one-by-one as I thought having too many connections open (apparently bulkloader can open multiple connections for faster loading) may cause some memory issue or suchlike, but that made no difference, everything is still choppy and sluggish whilst the background loader is running.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading An External XML File?

Apr 8, 2007

The .swf is still very very basic as of now, but im making a little file that keeps you up to date with NYC weather. The problem is it has to read off an external XML file at: [URL]

I tried using the tutorial on kirupa.com with using a .php file to act as a "middleman" for this. First I tried the tutorial at Adobe's website but that had no effect, and neither did the tutorial on Kirupa... Mind you I've tried this locally and it worked fine, when i upload it to the web it never loads the xml file.

I attached the .fla and .php file to this post, you can see the .swf at work (rather, not working) at:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading External SWF File?

Jul 13, 2007

I'm having a problem loading external swf files into a main Swf file. For example i'm working on my companies website, i created a slideshow with thumbnails. Within this slideshow, there is a stop and pause slideshow buttons. The main SWF file is my navigation buttons that call for each category (external SWF file). if i play the side show when i click on another category another slideshow swf file opens, but the slidshow plays automatically, when it isn't supposed to play automatically. After that i can't pause the slideshow. I was wondering why it was doing this. But if i load a SWF file and not play the slidshow and choose another catgory everything is ok.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading External As2 SWF Into File

Jul 1, 2009

I have a main flash file coded in AS3. This file acts like a container that loads on different AS2 files depending on user selection. This container file is set to fullscreen mode and the stage is aligned to center if the user screen is too wide.

The problem here is that when it loads the AS2 file, it causes the container stage to align left. I tried loading an external test AS3 SWF and it loads fine. Only when it comes to loading the AS2 files will the stage aligned left. I suspect is the AS2 files have its stage aligned to left and I don't have access to these AS2 FLA files. I only have the SWFs. Is there anyway I can control this from the AS3 code?
