How can I match lower case i and variants like í for example in ActionScript 3?
EDIT: The above is just an example, I am interested in matching all diacritics and special letters in general with a similar Latin Alphabet equivalent.

Text is imported dynamically (xml) and populates to a movie clip which in turns masks other display objects on stage - Great. However, the text populating the field can be korean, and other times, english. I know from testing, latin languages will give the desired effect, but non-latin do not stand a chance. i have tried using _sans and _serif as well, without luck. Embeding Korean/Chinese/Japanese fonts is not an option, since these fonts are HUGE. What's the trick to making a dynamic text field mask?

When creating an application which needs to be capable of displaying a range of foreign characters we came across a display problem when attempting to display Swedish diacritics. The following sample application works fine using Windows Vista but doesn't display correcting using Windows XP:

Using charmap suggests that both Arial and Verdana on Windows XP lack the necessary diacritic characters and hence don't display correctly whereas in Windows Vista the fonts are complete. The same in standard HTML appears to work correctly however (not sure if the browser is doing something in the background to insert known diacritic characters when it encounters fonts without).
Has anyone encountered a similar issue when displaying diacritics in Flash using Windows XP? I want to avoid embedding Arial/Verdana and unfortunately using Arial Unicode MS is not an option - Verdana must be used to fit with the clients style guidelines.

Currently we are extending the website for a coffee retailer. The whole page is in Flash and content is supplied by external XML-Files. However, the company expanded to Israel and therefore we are working on a hebrew version of the page (different charset and right-to-left). This works to 80% fine but sometimes we have sentences which contain latin nouns.

i need to make a site for a romanian charity. in this site we of course need to to display non-latin characters like 砥tc. we decided to go for the Minion Font (on Mac) because it includes all possible Glyphs. no i embedded the font on the library and used it via menuitem_font =new Minion() ... etc but the special characters are still not displayed. also when i do trace(menuitem_font.hasGlyphs("?Άinč ćpḉiӁtӐz"))

In Flash you have the option to embed only certain unicode blocks of selected font. Those characters will then be available in your project.Which unicode block is needed to display certain latin-based language? It's obvious in cases like Greek or Hebrew but what latin extension do I need for German, Danish or Czech language?

I've been using Flash for a few years now and I've recently (5 months+) started using CS5 package.My query is how do I successfully embed accented latin characters into a "classic" dynamic text field in my compiled Flash movie that are called from an external text file. I've searched the various forums online and all the methods demonstrated have not worked.
What I've done so far is to to select my dynamic text field, click on "Embed" within the PROPERTIES area, choose the font and the weight, then add any of the foreign characters and/or glyphs to the "Also include these characters:" area then finish up and compile. When I run my SWF file, the glyphs and accented fonts are missing but all the other typical Latin characters show up.
I tried this same method in CS4 (because we have an old Mac in the office too), and almost the same thing happened except instead of completely missing out the glyphs and fonts, it showed a box (almost like an image placeholder) instead.

only one movie clip is created.when the movieclip event loads ,all 26 alphabets must be created.i have done it using duplicatemovieclip method.then,we need to make words with the alphabets.so we need to drag each alphabet to a particular place.if it is dropped at the target it should remain ,else it should go back to its original place.also,when we drop the alphabet at the target position ,a new movie clip(duplicate of original must be created)and the original should go back to its place

Sortting an Array by alphabet or number
say I have a list of array like this

I also have a list (LIST#2) that has the values #,A-Z - how would I create an alphabet jump? So If a user clicked on "A" in LIST#2 that would automatically scroll to "Adele" at the top of LIST#1 - not filter so he/she could scroll up to view 2Pac or down to view The Tews if they were not in the view yet. Its a standard Flex Spark List with an ArrayCollection as the dataProvider - the artist field is called: "title" along with a unique id field that is not visible to the user.

I'm making a site in dreamweaver, with a flash menu. on that flash menu I have buttons that load a external text file and applies CSS to it before showing it. All this is well, BUT, the site is in Norwegian, and some of the letters that is typical of the Norwegian alphabet won't show,( it's just boxes)and some of the nearby letters dissapear to.

I am trying to develop a simple game for kids in which an Alphabet will be spoken and the kid will have to choose the correct alphabet being displayed on the screen. What I have tried to do is that I have saved each of the sound in a seperate movieclip.
how can I develop the code that randomly choose a movieclip to play the sound and then when the kid click on the correct alphabet, it adds the point and if wrong alphabet is clicked, it gives error.

1. Can you create audio in Flash for an alphabet? For example, users click on "B" and audio says B. Would it have to be a button? What would the code be? Would it be an MP3 recording?
2. I have a course that needs audio put into it. It is divided in to labels and navigation is controlled by buttons. Is it possible to put audio behind each label? i.e. only have audio on that section. Also, what would the code be? I would need on/off buttons.

The options I know about: TextMate - isn't free. it doesn't seem to have code completion...SE|PY - can't seem to get it to work on Snow Leopard, and I notice that the website doesn't seem to have been updated in four years...Flash Builder - isn't free(although I'm looking into installing Eclipse with Flex SDK), and I always preferred FlashDevelop for elegance and speed as an AS IDE anyway.my next last resort option is to look into running windows on the mac..

I'm setting up a multi-lesson game and using it also as an opportunity to make the switch from AS2 to AS3. It's been a bumpy road but I'm getting it but think I've hit a roadblock.Is there an equivalent to the "loadMovieNum()" parameter from AS2? I have been merrily building all the individual games assuming I'd just swap them in and out of the same level so they purge each other as we go.

Is there are a sizeof equivalent in AS3?
Second, but similar, I have a 2D array that contains only 0's or 1's. The smallest data type in AS3 seems to be Boolean (or Int or unit) which is 32bits (4bytes).
So if my array, which was say 10 x 10 in size, each containing an int to represent the 0 or 1, the array would be 400bytes (10*10 * 4bytes). This is an assumption, as I don't know how to get the size at run time.
BUT I have written code to convert arrays of 0's and 1's into an int (and vice versa) so instead of storing an array like this [ [1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1], [0,0,0,0,0,0,1,0] ], it would be represented like this [255, 2]. [code]...

I've got a button on screen and behind it a slideshow rotating images with a fade transition from one to the next. What I'm trying to figure out is when you MouseOver the button... the slideshow stops. When you MouseOut, the slideshow picks up where it left off.
