What methods do you use to unit test event handlers, particularly if they require information from the event (such as mouse coordinates, or the target of the event)? Is the most common practice to just refactor the behavior into a method that does the lifting while the handler just extracts information from the event, or are there effective ways to simulate event dispatch in FlexUnit or Fluint?
MouseEvent.target will return the target object... but how do I access the specific object type? I know it's probably simple... but it's late and I'm fried. The code below obviously doesn't work. I just need someone to tell me what to put instead of [object MovieClip] and [object SimpleButton]
Code: stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fOnClick); function fOnClick(e:MouseEvent):void {
I'm looking for a reliable mocking framework for ActionScript. I've been using mock-as3, but I'm annoyed with what I feel is a hack-ish solution for triggering events. There are other a few other reasons why I'd like to have some options, but not sure if I necessarily need to go into them. I've also looked into Mock4AS, but the interface appears to be cumbersome.
I have a flex application written using PureMVC framework.Now,I want to write tests.We are using FlashBuilder 4.Is FlexUnit sufficient for testing? Are there any issues you have faced while writing tests?
I am developing an AS3 application which uses a Singleton class to store Metrics in Arrays. It's a Singleton because I only ever want one instance of this class to be created and it needs to be created from any part of the app. The difficulty comes when I want to unit test this class. I thought adding public getters and setters would enable me to unit test this properly and would be useful for my app. I have read that changing to a Factory pattern will enable unit testing or using Inversion of control. This would of course make it more flexible too. I would like to know of people's thoughts on this matter as there are SO many conflicting opinions on this!
I am writing a small flex application that will, eventually, call PHP services to perform its work. In the meantime, however, I would like to have it use local data in XML form to allow me to develop the Flex part independently of the data service.
What is the best way to do this? I want to emulate a service like this:
[Code]...
And invoke the service using issuerService.send(), populating my results as expected. How do I do this as though it were a RemoteObject instead, but keep my data local?
I have a flex application build with actionscript 3 on flex builder with unit testing on it using flexUnit4. I want to build this project on my cruise control and i don't know how?
I've been trying to setup a working method for unit testing flex libraries using Flex Builder. i have tried setting up a standard flex lib project and using Ant to compile and run the units tests. But this means that when something does go wrong and I want to use the flex builder debugger I cannot do so.
So my next plan is to setup the library as a normal as3/flax/air app as I can use the concept of a main class to run the unit tests. I can then compile the actual library code using Ant.
I could also setup a separate companion project who's sole task is to run units tests on the lib. But this is a little awkward as each library now requires two projects to manage. How do other people develop flex libraries and use unit tests to test/develop/debug the code?
I want to profile and unit test my application in Flash Builder 4 Standard. Adobe says I need to upgrade to the Premium version but I can't pay the money they want right now.Are there any alternatives for unit testing and profiling?
i am trying to do a simple blackboard on mouse down, start drawing on mouse move, if drawing, draw line on mouse up, stop drawing i set the listeners on a simple clip with a rectangle. if i dont fill the rectangle, the mouse events wont fall into the rectangle, but if i fill the rectangle, it will paint behind the rectangle, so anyway i wont see any succesfull results. what i did was create another sprite and paint within it; something like
how to set flashvars when running a movie in CS4 using Control->Test Movie? Under ActionScript 2 I could just set _root.flashVar, what's the equivalent in AS3?
Scenario: A compiled swf. It has lots of button interactions. We want to automate the testing of these buttons by triggering events in the SWF. There is no localConnection method we can use. Is there any way to sift through a SWF and check for hasEventListener or willTrigger flags and then manually, through code, trigger events?
An actionscript way? or is there some kind of other non-Adobe application (maybe a browser plug-in) that can do this? Is there some kind of automated SWF testing app out there already? We've got 100's of SWFs that we don't have access to the code to but we need to check for bugs, and instead of having someone sit there and repeatively click buttons in the swf, we'd like to set up some kind of way where all eventListeners (or at least specific ones) are found and then triggered upon intervals.
how can i access event.target outside event listener method.say for example
my_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onC); function onC(e:MouseEvent):void { var m:MovieClip = e.target as MovieClip; } trace(m.totalframes);/// not working
now what if i want to get totalframe property of m instance, in short for every movieClip clicked.
I have these buttons in a movie clip and I would like to have only one event listener for the parent, using event.target to point to the children. I have also tried event.currentTarget, and it didn't work.here is the code that works:
i'm new to AS3. Couldn't understand what some of the explanations out there are getting at, so i decided to post it here. In the code example below, what does event.target & event.currentTarget point to?
I am trying to create a class library in the documents folder on my mac to save reusable .as classes. I tried following the tutorial on gotoandlearn about this, but it doesn't seem to be working out. I set the path in the prefs in flash using the browse button, and then set up the import line in my .fla. When I test, I get errors that say that flash can't find the dir that I am trying to use. Here are some details...
This is the dir structure that I am trying to use to store my classes.
This is how I am trying to link up to the classes using import in flash.
Here is the preference settings that I am using to get flash to look in the dir structure above to find classes to import.
Here's the code public function onKeyPress( keyboardEvent:KeyboardEvent ):void { if (keyboardEvent.keyCode == Keyboard.A) { //DO MY STUFF NAO }}
Error: 1119: Access of the possibly undefined property A through a reference with static type class. When I put Keyboard.RIGHT or Keyboard.SHIFT etc. It works fine. I tried it with keyboard.Event.keyCode == 97 and such and it still didn't work.
I have been been testing for keyboard events one key at a time. Now I want to test two keys being pressed or released at the same time. I am unclear on how to do this. Do I need to indicate this intention in the functions parameter Code: if(event.keyCode==keyboard.LEFT&&keyboard.keyCode.RIGHT); isn't cutting it.
It seems that every scripting language I start using, it all goes back to this problem. How do I evaluate a string as a variable name or text field name, and get or set the contents of that variable or text field
var mySelf:Person = new Person ("Enter Your Name", "Enter Your Email", "Enter Your Phone"); //Person is an external class file. The variables in it are named "_HomName, _HomEmail,
Just new to As3. I can't set visibility of movieclip inside another movieClip ActionScript Code: player.vidImage.visible = true; trace(player.vidImage); // shows - [object SimpleButton] tracing player.vidImage show [object SimpleButton]. But can't set visibility true. VidImage is physically placed inside player MovieClip.

Is it possible to define the target of a MouseOver event being sent to a method if it is being triggered by code and not an actual mouse event? By typecasting a string as a mouse event the receiving function is sent an acceptable value required by it to run. It will then go about executing it's tasks but if it has references to the target property an error is thrown because only the event type was sent to the function and none of it's properties.
ActionScript Code: private function myFunction(event:MouseEvent):void { trace(event.target.name); } myFunction(new MouseEvent("mouseOver"));
Resulting error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. Is there a way to send the target information along with the event when triggering a method in this way?
I have a Flex 4 List component which I have tied a click event to. In my event, my assignment of the source file paths works just fine --> my larger image displays just fine when a thumbnail click happens. My problem comes when trying to attach elements of the dataProvider to text inputs on another panel. Actionscript is throwing an error. Can someone point me in the right direction??
This animation is for a kindergarten course. I have 6 different colored teddy bears on the floor and the bears are to be placed on the middle shelf in the room, in no particular order. I have the code in place to drag the bears, and they return to their original location if dropped in the wrong area. Everything works, except I can't make the bears stick to the target area. The target area has to be the same for all 6 bears.
