Actionscript 3 :: Access Non-visible Flex Components?

I'm building a flex 4.5 app that has a custom component extending SkinnableContainer. This custom component is basically a kind of collapsible panel. When you open it you see all the controls in the contentGroup, when you close they go away and you are left with the title. This is done in the skin by having the contentGroup included only in the open state.
I have a bunch of these containers in the app, some open by default and some closed. So in mxml the structure looks like:

<s:HGroup>
<s:Button />
<ui:AnotherComponent />

Note that if you hit the click me button before opening the second container we are unable to get the value from the control in the initially collapsed group. Opening the group once allows access to the value. Collapsing the group is still ok. It's the first time that's the problem. I have added creationPolicy to the container and itemCreationPolicy to the content group in the skin but no luck!

So question is how do I access that button's properties. I want when something happens in Xyz file, button's (someId) visibility to become false. If Abc.mxml was AS class file then it would be easy, just make object etc., but how to get if it's mxml file.

I am created a dynamically adding a VBox, that contains two images. Into a Custom Component that is derived from UIComponent. The problem is the Vbox that contains the two image is only a really tiny size. I would like the VBox stretch to the size of the two images. This is how I am creating the Vbox....

I have a project in flash cs5 with some buttons and textInputs. Ive linked my project up with Flash Builder and now want to access my textInput from within my Flash Builder source. i gave the textInput instance name of "txt1" in Flash CS5 but when i try to reffrence it in my Flash Builder project there is no option to set it as type TextInput. I can only set it to type MovieClip and when i do that and publish it tells me cannot convert from fl.controls.TextInput to MovieClip.

How to access to each of this components i have created and change parameters like pause() them stop() play() add contentPath etc., I need that only after the loop is finished not while the loop is still on. I've been searching for the last couple days but can't seem to find a basic example of what I'm looking for. I'm developing a Flex 4.5 app and in it I have a viewstack of 2 components that use some of the same services. Currently the only way I can get the app to correctly use the web services is by defining 2 different web services that use the same PHP web service file. For example: I have an app, and within it I have a viewstack with tab navigation of 2 components: #1) retrieve a list of all Salary Employees, and #2) retrieve a list of all Contractors. Currently to get it working I am defining a UsersTableEmployees webservice within component #1 and a UsersTableContractors webservice within component #2, but they both point to the same PHP class, and only differ in the arugment value I pass to them. Ie, getUsers("employee") and getUsers ("contractors"). Of course this is not best practice.
Searching StackOverflow and Google gives me many results about ColdFusion and MVC (example What's the best way to share data between components in Flex?), but I'm still confused. Can anyone here point me to a basic example (even sample MVC) and source code of an app that uses Zend AMF and allows different components to call common web services?

I want to click on an object and make it appear and disappear. As the object is rectangular, I figured putting a white button the same size on a white background on a layer underneath the object would do this, but I can't seem to make it happen.I'm a complete novice, frustrated as I've been trying to achieve this all day and I'm sure it should be pretty simple, but could you give me the idiots guide. I know how to name an instance, make an object, script in actions on a separate layer. I would like to draw the button myself and give it an instance rather than drag it off the button component (as I can't work out how to make the component button white, change its size etc.!)

I'd like to make a series of components into a solid, consistently repeatable object. For example, suppose I have a "notification" template that I want to add to a notifications area every time something new happens. This template includes an icon (Image), text (label), and some space between these two things.
I want to take a template like that and make it so I can invoke it with a function like add_notification("icon", "text"). How would I go about doing that?

What is the right way for integrating a Flash component into a Flex application? I heard that there are different ways of integration between Flash and Flex: using SWF, using SWC (something else?). What are theirs pros and cons? What are the points of communication between them Flash and Flex? `I'm using Flash Builder 4 for developing Flex. And Flash Professional CS 5 for developing Flash.

I have a simple list in Flex that is populated every N seconds by a dataprovider. My goal is to avoid scrolling the list after the dataprovider has been changed.
So, before I populate the list, I save the selectedIndex, and once the dataProvider is filled, I call:
list.selectedIndex = index;
list.scrollToIndex(index);
Trouble is that this moves the selected item of the list to the top. The solution would be to get the index of the first element displayed in the list: but I have no idea on how to get that.

I have a popup that contains a TabNavigator control. The tabs are dynamically added to the TabNavigator when the popup loads. Is there a good way to tell when one of the tabs is loaded, from the tab itself?I have a tab that requires a service call to be made, and I don't want the service call to be made unless the user actually goes and clicks the tab to view it. I could notify the tab from the popup control itself when the TabNavigator index was changed, but that doesn't seem like a good way to go about doing it.
