Mar 3, 2011I want to create a panel (or any other component) inside a component that has a 5 pixel border on all sides, but scales fully when the window is resized. I know I can set width to "100%" to make it resize, but that gives me no borders. If I put it to "95%",I have borders, but they scale annoyingly. Also, that only works for borders on the right or lower bounds, and not to the left or upper sides.Is there a convenient way to do this without having to write tons of resize-code (in which case I will not bother and just accept bad rescale behaviour, as it is for a private pet project).
EDIT: I know that I can just overwrite the display handling and set the positions manually every frame. I wondered if there is a cheap way to do it in the mxml-structure, along these lines:

Coming from C++ and Java, I am intrigued by the option of setting something to "95%" and let the library work out the details, instead of having to write many lines of code, just so my text-area always keeps a 5 pixel distance from the border, but scales with window width.If there is no easier way to do it than figuring out pixel sizes by hand and setting the coordinates.

Oct 19, 2010I am trying to determine the global coordinates of the visible rectangle that is currently rendered on the stage.
Specifically, if a canvas has an explicit height and width and is a child of a panel that has a scrollbar, the scrollbar can "hide" a part of the canvas. ContentToGlobal(x,y) provides the global position of the content at the time, but content coordinates can scroll off the boundaries of the parent panel and continue to give x,y coordinates that are not visible.
Is there a way to determine the viewable rectangle that is not hidden by anything?
Flex :: HideEffect Not Triggered When Component Visible Property Set False Programmatically?

If I set customComponent.Visible to false, the component gets hidden (as expected). But doesn't trigger the hideFX at all. Am I doing something wrong? Or isn't this the correct way to use hideEffect and showEffect?
Actionscript :: Zoom Effect And Make A Component Visible At The Same Time Flex 3?
Feb 10, 2011I want to introduce a canvas component by zooming from a height & width of 0.0 to 1.0. I want the component to be invisible until the zoom begins and then for it to be visible when it begins zooming.
However, if I bind the zoom effect to a showEffect trigger on the component and then make the component visible, it will first show the component at its regular size for a split second before it begins the zoom effect. If I combine the zoom effect and setting the component visible together in a parallel, it will also flash the component at its regular size for a split second before the zoom. If I make the component visible when the zoom effect starts through its effectStart event, it still does it. Does anyone know how to make it visible only when the zoom effect begins so that it doesn't flash the component at its regular size for a split second before the zoom effect?

That is I want to hide the contact_person and list nodes.Deleting the nodes from the dataprovider cannot be done.So what i did was to create a custom tree data descriptor by extending DefaultDataDescriptor.Then override the getChildren method and applied a filterfunction to the collection returned by super.getChildren.The problem is when i hide the 'list' node I cannot have the child nodes to show up.So is there any way I can hide 'list' but show the children of 'node'?
Flex :: Get The Actual Size Of A Component?
Jan 19, 2011I'd like to get the actual height of a component after adding some children.
When inspecting the variables tab in debug mode, I see 2 different height variables:$height (which contains the correct value: 138) and height/_height (which contains a wrong value: 10).
I guess that the display is not updated and so I'm not getting the correct height using component.height, but how can I get the value in $height?

Sep 9, 2009I'm building a flex .swc library using Ant, and many of the assets that are supposed to be in the file are not being copied, instead creating 0-byte entries in the .swc.Here is the ant compc target that is doing the creation. I've tried both compiler.include-libraries and compiler.library-path here, which is why the latter is still present and commented out. Neither worked.

I'm trying to create some user-resizeable "windows" in Flex, but I'm having some trouble getting the layout calculations for the contents correct. Right now I'm just trying to get a good understanding of how Flex calculates its layouts, but I haven't found any good overview documentation. For instance, looking just at the width value there are the following:

Flex :: MouseOut Event Triggers Based On Old Component's Size After It Was Resized?
Mar 22, 2011I have a component called X. I'm trying to make a menu come down from it when I put my mouse over it.
I have a mouseOver handler which changes the component's state to another state which shows an extra child component (the menu) on the lower part. This of course makes the X component grow.
I also have mouseOut event handler which makes the menu disappear by returning component X to its original state.
When I move the mouse over the component the menu appears as expected. But when I move the mouse down to the menu that is now visible, as soon as I touch it, it disappears. This way it's impossible to reach the menu.
I guess the mouseOut event is triggered as soon as I move out of the old boundaries. Is this so? And how can I avoid it? The new boundaries should now consider the extra child with the menu.

Dec 24, 2009I can change the color of the label in Flex Builder, I can even BIND the color to a variable and that works, but I can't find the Color PROPERTY in order to change or reference it programatically! What is the ActionScript 3.0 code to change the font or color of a piece of text in a Flex RIA - or is caring in what color your text appears too bizzarre a request for a RIA? I wrote whole applications after just minutes of "learning" flex, how come it's taken me three days and I still can't change the color of my stupid label?

Flash :: In AS3, Obtain Visible Size Of Loaded SWF That Contains A Mask?
Aug 23, 2010I'm using UILoader to load SWF files which I have no source for. These SWF files were created in AS2. They use masks. Width and height return unmasked values.
I'm trying to find the visible width and height of the clip so I can scale it properly.
For example I want a SWF to fit within a 50x50 space. The visible SWF is 65x65 (but I don't know this) and the unmasked size is 100x100. If I set the width and height of the loaded movieclip to 50x50, Flash scales the clip based on the unmasked portion, and I get a clip scaled much too small. Keep in mind I have no control of the SWF content, so I can not override width/height, or get mask size.

Mar 6, 2011I would like to integrate mp3 sound file into web-page using Flash, just to play it if some event occurs. It seems to me, the easiest way to do that is to integrate a small swf file into web-page and send path to mp3 file as parameter in element. So basically swf gets path to mp3 file and plays it.
Is it possible to make flash element (swf file) without a picture or without scene? It looks like, flash element always need to have a visible screen, but I don't need it because my flash component doesn't need to show anything to a user.

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?

Flex :: Changing Image Size Independent Of Scene Size?
Apr 6, 2011I have three images and I want change the images size based on the scene size (default size is 1024x768). After each image has completely loaded I call bindableUtils.setter to set width/height when scene size changes but I don't know how to make a pointer or something like that. I'm using a public var img, but it only works with the last complete image.

What seems to be changing is the video width and height, the progress bar width and the position of any status messages for the video.

Oct 15, 2011Could you explain why a Flash Builder source folder - no larger than 2 MB - compiles into a SWF exceeding 15 MB with debugging turned off (exported release build)?
There is only 1 embedded image at about 93k - no other images. The application is not that complicated, basically calls are made to a MySQL db to display information, as well as store information. I have used drop shadows and borders, but all standard to Flash Builder. Some custom classes and one custom skin.
