Flex :: MouseOut Event Triggers Based On Old Component's Size After It Was Resized?

Mar 22, 2011

I have a component called X. I'm trying to make a menu come down from it when I put my mouse over it.

I have a mouseOver handler which changes the component's state to another state which shows an extra child component (the menu) on the lower part. This of course makes the X component grow.

I also have mouseOut event handler which makes the menu disappear by returning component X to its original state.

When I move the mouse over the component the menu appears as expected. But when I move the mouse down to the menu that is now visible, as soon as I touch it, it disappears. This way it's impossible to reach the menu.

I guess the mouseOut event is triggered as soon as I move out of the old boundaries. Is this so? And how can I avoid it? The new boundaries should now consider the extra child with the menu.

My problem is, in the highlighted mode, the mouseout event is triggered according to the size of the normal state.

Css :: Dynamic Font Size Flex 4 To Resize When Window/panel Is Resized

Feb 11, 2011

I have a Flex custom BorderContainer component which has text inside of it. If I were to add this in my main Application inside of a panel, the BorderContainer goes outside of the width bounds of the panel due to the text being a set size. I have all of its components in percentages so that it re-sizes when shrunk, but the one part that contains checkboxes and labels (lots of things with text) mess up since the font size doesn't change.

I am pretty positive that the results I am looking for can be done through embedding the font, though I have not been able to come up with a solution from online. I am trying to do this with a CSS style since I will be using it for many different components (I dont just want to change it in the flex code directly).

EDIT Solution:

I attempted to use the ratio as www0z0k had suggested but it caused some serious issues when it was re-sized quickly or to a small screen (the component would not re-size correctly because it was multiplying by the ratio. What finally seems to have worked for me and caused no issues was that I ran the code and found the width (1152) and height (842) of the container.

I then created a const variable of widthX = 1152 and heightY = 842 and in the onResize() function I coded the resize like this:
(where bottomGroup is the id of the borderContainer I am trying to resize)

bottomGroup.scaleX = width / widthX;;
bottomGroup.scaleY = height / heightY;

END EDIT

So far I have found some examples of embedding fonts in the <fx:Style> and attempted to remove any delaration of fontSize but that doesn't seem to work.

<fx:Style>
@namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
@font-face {

Flash :: Flex Relative Size Component, Fixed Size Border?

Mar 3, 2011

I want to create a panel (or any other component) inside a component that has a 5 pixel border on all sides, but scales fully when the window is resized. I know I can set width to "100%" to make it resize, but that gives me no borders. If I put it to "95%",I have borders, but they scale annoyingly. Also, that only works for borders on the right or lower bounds, and not to the left or upper sides.Is there a convenient way to do this without having to write tons of resize-code (in which case I will not bother and just accept bad rescale behaviour, as it is for a private pet project).

EDIT: I know that I can just overwrite the display handling and set the positions manually every frame. I wondered if there is a cheap way to do it in the mxml-structure, along these lines:

<mx:Panel>
width="100%" height="100%"
</mx:Panel>

Coming from C++ and Java, I am intrigued by the option of setting something to "95%" and let the library work out the details, instead of having to write many lines of code, just so my text-area always keeps a 5 pixel distance from the border, but scales with window width.If there is no easier way to do it than figuring out pixel sizes by hand and setting the coordinates.

Xml :: Flex - HTTPService Event Listener So It Triggers Something When ".send" Method Gets Data From XML?

Sep 23, 2009

I've doing a bit of "training" at working with Flex and Remote Data from XML files.This is my HTTPService

<mx:HTTPService id="loginData" url="com-handler/basic.xml" showBusyCursor="true">
</mx:HTTPService>

I have a button and when its clicked its call a function, that calls loginData.send and does a little IF condition, that IF condition relies on the data returned by loginData.The condition doesn't work because its called right next to the loginData.send, and .send method still didn't returned the values from the XML file. But if you click it a second time a second after the first click the IF condition works.So to deal with i wanted to do a eventListener so that when loginData.send returned the data from the XML it fires up the IF condition. But i don't know how to do it.

Flex :: Propagating Event From A Built-in Component To A Custom Event?

Jan 27, 2012

I am trying to understand event propagation in Flex framework and have a following doubt on it:

Scenario: I have a built-in component DropDownList on change of which I want to create a custom event refreshPreview and want to propagate it to a custom component PictureComponent.

In the custom component's mxml, I have added the Metadata directive as follows to register a refreshPreview event with the compiler

<fx:Metadata>
[Event(name="refreshPreview", type="flash.events.Event")]
</fx:Metadata>

Layout Details: In my main mxml application I have laid out DropDownList and the custom component such that both are siblings (i.e. have a common indirect parent)
e.g.

<s:Group id="contentGroup">
<s:Group id="formGroup">
<s:Form x="11"

[Code]....

I am seeing that the refreshPreview event is not getting propagated to the custom component.

I doubt this is because the built-in component is a sibling of the target (where the event got generated) and not a parent. how to make refreshPreview event propagate to custom component?

Flex :: Make A Container Resize Based On The Size Of Its Contents?

Mar 16, 2010

I'm trying to create a Flex application that can automatically shrink based on the size of the components that it contains, so that a user can shrink it to a minimal view to see more of the HTML page it's embedded in.

I know how to change the size of the whole application using ExternalInterface, but I'm having trouble automatically figuring out how much the size changed when something is hidden or shown.

For example:

Let's say I have the following flex layout:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical">
<mx:VBox width="100%" paddingTop="0" paddingBottom="0"

[Code]....

How can I hide one of the text fields and cause the VBox to shrink? I'm currently setting it to visible = false, but that doesn't seem to affect the parent VBox.

Once the VBox shrinks, how can I detect that the Application no longer needs so much space, and then go about figuring out how much less space it needs?

I've tried using ResizeEvent, but I haven't been able to get them to work, but I could be doing something wrong.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Button MovieClips Loops - MouseOut Event Listeners

Apr 20, 2009

I have a button that is a movie clip that is set up with animations triggered with MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT event listeners. The glitch is that once the mouse is over the button ... each ensuing pixel that the mouse is moved, loops the animation again. That probably didn't make a whole lot of sense, so I posted the file on my test site [URL]. You have to drag your mouse slowly across the button to see this. The bottom part of the button works as I'd expect. When you roll over the text at the bottom of the button, everything functions as it should. The looping problem starts when you roll over the image portion of the button. For some reason it considers each consecutive pixel rolled over to be a new event and consequently triggers the "over" animation again.

The code I have is below. I've commented out the MOUSE_OUT function for now. There is also a screenshot at the above link of my Layers palette for the button clip in question. I put a "stop" label at each frame that has an action so you see the actions used.
oneBedButton_mc.buttonMode = true;
oneBedButton_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, overEffect);
//oneBedButton_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, outEffect);
function overEffect (e:MouseEvent) {
oneBedButton_mc.gotoAndPlay("over");}
function outEffect (e:MouseEvent) {
oneBedButton_mc.gotoAndPlay("out");}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Socket Event Triggers Movieclip Movement - Need More Frequent Rendering

May 11, 2009

I have a flash project that's implementing a simple two player game. I have added an enterFrame function to my main movie which listens for keyboard activity in order to move a cowboy gunslinger. Whenever the cowboy moves, I send a message over a socket to a server which dispatches the movement to the other connected client. This works pretty well, however, the movement messages tend to arrive in clumps which results in jumpy animation of my cowboy on my opponents screen and jumpy animation of his cowboy on my screen. To illustrate, i put a trace in my enterFrame function because I am imagining that this function will run roughly once each time my main movie renders the screen. I also put a trace statement in my function that responds to network traffic and moves the remote player's cowboy on my screen. Here's the output:

Flex :: Event-based Interaction Between Two Custom Classes?

May 25, 2010

I have 2 custom components, which have their own nesting hierarchy ... One is container for another. I have to "familiarize them" with each other. The way I'm trying to achieve that is using global events (one side is firing and the other one is catching):

Application.application.addEventListener("Hello", function (data:Event):void{
// .. some actions
});

Then should be created the connection between container and it's child.

BUT, the only thing I could acheive is passing a reference to the Container in the DynamicEvent. Is there any chance that I could access the child at the event-handler function.

Flex :: Programmatic Equivalent Of Tag-based Event Handlers?

Basically, I'm wondering where I should add "myDataGrid.addEventListener" if I want to do it programmatically? Should it be in the creationComplete listener function of the object itself, or perhaps in the creationComplete listener function for whatever parent object it resides in?
