How can I set font size of title property (header) in TitleWindow component? If I use fontSize property, it sets the font size for all components in TitleWindow, which is not what I want. I only want to set it for the title. I'm using Flex 3.

i'm trying to create a unordered list in Flex. My issue is that within each line, i want the word NEW to be a different font color and different font size from the rest of the label text. I am unsure of how to do this INLINE within the label component.

I can change the color of the label in Flex Builder, I can even BIND the color to a variable and that works, but I can't find the Color PROPERTY in order to change or reference it programatically! What is the ActionScript 3.0 code to change the font or color of a piece of text in a Flex RIA - or is caring in what color your text appears too bizzarre a request for a RIA? I wrote whole applications after just minutes of "learning" flex, how come it's taken me three days and I still can't change the color of my stupid label?

There is no nested components displayed when I run my app.
The debugger shows they are created and visible.
To my "amusement" the components are shown when I replace s:TitleWindow with mx:TitleWindow.
I really want to use spark TitleWindow.
I changed from using a text field to a textArea component and now the font size is much smaller.The original text field had the font size set to 10 and Arial, just like I think I am doing with the TextArea but it appears to be coming up at about 3/4 the size it was before.

View 1 RepliesI've used JRab's example here [URL]... to add a header menu to my app. What I'm having trouble with is executing my functions from the header mennu. For example, my firstView is appHome.mxml. It instantiates a Canvas object that has an erase(). There is a button in appHope.mxml that executes the erase() on the Canvas instance. I'm trying move the Erase button out of my appHome.mxml and into my headerMenu.mxml but don't know how to execute the erase() on the Canvas instance. The first thing I thought to try was click="{appHome.myCanvas.erase()}" but obviously that didn't work.
I asked a similar question yesterday here: Flex executing a function on another view and I accepted the answer before I tried it. The problem is that the headermenu.mxml is not a child of appHome.mxml. They are both children of the main app.mxml. Secondly, the object that has the erase() is in a separate .as class I instantiate in appHome.mxml.
I want to create a panel (or any other component) inside a component that has a 5 pixel border on all sides, but scales fully when the window is resized. I know I can set width to "100%" to make it resize, but that gives me no borders. If I put it to "95%",I have borders, but they scale annoyingly. Also, that only works for borders on the right or lower bounds, and not to the left or upper sides.Is there a convenient way to do this without having to write tons of resize-code (in which case I will not bother and just accept bad rescale behaviour, as it is for a private pet project).
EDIT: I know that I can just overwrite the display handling and set the positions manually every frame. I wondered if there is a cheap way to do it in the mxml-structure, along these lines:

Coming from C++ and Java, I am intrigued by the option of setting something to "95%" and let the library work out the details, instead of having to write many lines of code, just so my text-area always keeps a 5 pixel distance from the border, but scales with window width.If there is no easier way to do it than figuring out pixel sizes by hand and setting the coordinates.

View 1 RepliesI am loading a component which makes a HTTPService call to get data that will then be used to set certain variables in the component. I make the HTTPService call in an init() function (for the initialization event) and then set the variables according to the data received in the HTTPService result handler. However, the variables are still null at both the initialize stage and at the creationComplete stage. If I try and read the variables in a creationComp() function (for the creationComplete event), those variables are still null. Is this correct?
I guess I don't understand the flex initialization cycle very well. When are those variables actually set and available to be used? I need to manipulate those variables automatically after the component loads. Is there an event that comes after creationComplete that is appropriate or some other way to approach this? I am using Flex 3.
I have a LinkBar which is linked to a viewstack. However, as I change the fontsize of my LinkBar, when I run it, the font size does not change at all! I've tried changing the font using CSS and it doesnt change the font size!

I'm building a small Flex UI component that displays a colored square next to a label of text. I want to be able to specify a size for the square and internally adjust the label's properties such that the line height matches the square and the text is vertically centered with respect to the square.
At the moment, I'm using mx.controls.Label for the text. Setting the fontSize style to the square's size does not work, the label then becomes too big. After tracing a couple of values in the debugger, I found that
the line height of the internal text field (sum of the ascent and descent properties of the TextFieldMetrics object obtained through getTextFieldMetircs()) seems to end up about 120% of what I specify a s font size.there's a default "leading" of 2 pixels that I can not change directly at the Label level, this adds to the overall height of the internal text field (getTextFieldMetrics().height)the height of the Label component then is an additional 5 pixels larger than that, I don't know where those come from.
I'm playing around with the scaleX/Y in the canvas tag and have noticed some strange behaviour. When I set scale in in mxml the width and height of the canvas are adjusted accordingly. For example if I have a canvas like this: <mx:Canvas width="1000" height="1000" scaleX="0.1" scaleY="0.1" />
The canvas now appears on screen to have a width and height of 100 and if inside my creationComplete callback I check the width and height property they are indeed 100. But if I do exactly the same thing except I set the scaleX/Y property from actionscript the canvas on screen appears to have a width and height of 100 as expected, but when I check the width and height property of the canvas they are still at the previous values of 1000.

I am trying to define the content area of a custom component that extends mx:VBox. The component has predefined headers and footers (visual children) and I want to set the area in the middle for adding children to the component. The component will be used like this:

How would I set this content area?
I am wondering if flex enforce style settings and throws compilation errors if a style that is applid to a component that is not supported by it. Has any one tried it before ?

View 1 RepliesI have a textarea where I measure the textWidth and textHeight to make sure the user cannot enter more text than can fit in the text area. I also extended the textArea with a textHeightNow and textWidthNow that measure the textField's dimensions since they update w/out requiring validation. Now this works great for 90% of the embedded fonts I'm using but any fonts that have giant serifs are not measured properly, for instance look at the 'f's in this text area:You can see they get cut off on both sides because textWidth and textWidthNow both return an incorrect size not taking into account the massive serifs.
View 1 RepliesI have a Flex custom BorderContainer component which has text inside of it. If I were to add this in my main Application inside of a panel, the BorderContainer goes outside of the width bounds of the panel due to the text being a set size. I have all of its components in percentages so that it re-sizes when shrunk, but the one part that contains checkboxes and labels (lots of things with text) mess up since the font size doesn't change.
I am pretty positive that the results I am looking for can be done through embedding the font, though I have not been able to come up with a solution from online. I am trying to do this with a CSS style since I will be using it for many different components (I dont just want to change it in the flex code directly).
EDIT Solution:
I attempted to use the ratio as www0z0k had suggested but it caused some serious issues when it was re-sized quickly or to a small screen (the component would not re-size correctly because it was multiplying by the ratio. What finally seems to have worked for me and caused no issues was that I ran the code and found the width (1152) and height (842) of the container.
I then created a const variable of widthX = 1152 and heightY = 842 and in the onResize() function I coded the resize like this:
(where bottomGroup is the id of the borderContainer I am trying to resize)
bottomGroup.scaleX = width / widthX;;
bottomGroup.scaleY = height / heightY;

So far I have found some examples of embedding fonts in the <fx:Style> and attempted to remove any delaration of fontSize but that doesn't seem to work.
