I am wondering if flex enforce style settings and throws compilation errors if a style that is applid to a component that is not supported by it. Has any one tried it before ?
View 1 RepliesI've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
Hopefully simple question: I'm trying to set the alternatingItemColors on a datagrid via some values that I set in a CSS file but nothing seems to work. the CSS file looks something like this:

Is it possible to set their width with Style, something like this: I tried it, but auto-complete isn't working, which leads me to think that there's something wrong with the syntax. Basically my goal is to not have the width property set specifically for all 4.
How can we customize the background and font color of a single instance of a tooltip for one component? (Without changing all tooltips in the application.)

I have a Flex Tree component in my app. I set the icons for open and close.
BUT I can't find something about changing the default background-color from white to something different.
obviously there is no background-color setable in css...
I am loading a component which makes a HTTPService call to get data that will then be used to set certain variables in the component. I make the HTTPService call in an init() function (for the initialization event) and then set the variables according to the data received in the HTTPService result handler. However, the variables are still null at both the initialize stage and at the creationComplete stage. If I try and read the variables in a creationComp() function (for the creationComplete event), those variables are still null. Is this correct?
I guess I don't understand the flex initialization cycle very well. When are those variables actually set and available to be used? I need to manipulate those variables automatically after the component loads. Is there an event that comes after creationComplete that is appropriate or some other way to approach this? I am using Flex 3.
I have written code to read an XML file by using URLRequest and URLLoader in ActionScript 3.0. Code is pasted below. This runs well in AS3.Problem I am facing is because I wrote this in AS3, I am not able to use the DateChooser component in another part of the flash module because it seems like DateChooser component is not supported in AS3. So I want to migrate my below AS3 code back to AS2.

I am trying to define the content area of a custom component that extends mx:VBox. The component has predefined headers and footers (visual children) and I want to set the area in the middle for adding children to the component. The component will be used like this:

How do you set the default value of skinClass for a custom component in Flex? I've extended the DropDownList with my custom component, but I would like to specify a default skin to go with it instead of always setting the skinClass value for each instance.

I am facing an animation error while i applying tint style on component.when i am passing paramenter values in second component by refrencing first component name and then applyng tint style on it but when i compile it, the first component tint syle is working fine but as it comes on second component it get stuck & the second component appears 80% transparent.

Then the problem come when I export the aplicaction AIR in .air and install the applicaction in the developer pc or other pc. I am trying to create a secure database for a mobile app using the as3corelib EncryptionKeyGenerator package from here but when I run it I get the following error:Error: EncryptedLocalStore is not supported on the current platformat flash.data::EncryptedLocalStore$/setItem()Googling around I see it is becaue the ELS is not supported for mobiles. Does anyone know of the best solution to this problem? I guess I could use the persistence manager to store the information but I am not sure this is the most secure method.

EDIT: One simple reason to do this is: if you check the above example, I would prefer mx.events.MoveEvent.MOVE (if available) instead of flash.events.Event.ENTER_FRAME for performance issues.

How to set inline style sheet to htmltext of textfield component as mentioned in the xml CDATA. At present , i am using textfield.htmlText propert , but i am not able to get the
fontfamily as mentioned in the xml CDATA. The text is also not getting displayed in the correct format. The image is not coming in between the 2 question strings and its getting displayed at the bottom of the question while the 2 question strings("q text info",
"with images also") are displayed as a single string. How to reformat the xml so that the image comes in between.
