Flash :: In AS3, Obtain Visible Size Of Loaded SWF That Contains A Mask?

I'm using UILoader to load SWF files which I have no source for. These SWF files were created in AS2. They use masks. Width and height return unmasked values.
I'm trying to find the visible width and height of the clip so I can scale it properly.
For example I want a SWF to fit within a 50x50 space. The visible SWF is 65x65 (but I don't know this) and the unmasked size is 100x100. If I set the width and height of the loaded movieclip to 50x50, Flash scales the clip based on the unmasked portion, and I get a clip scaled much too small. Keep in mind I have no control of the SWF content, so I can not override width/height, or get mask size.

I have a startDrag function set up on a loader and mask that when the mouse is down on the loader it drags, when not it doesn't. There is also 2 buttons that control whether mask1 or mask2 is used. What i would like however is when the mouse is down - the area of the loader outside of the mask is visible but only by about 10/20% alpha, that way the user can see where all the image is while dragging. This was something I looked at a while back but couldn't figure it out. Now returning to give it another go.Basically I want to find out how to check if a movieclip is visible under a mask.I've got a row of thumbs in a movieclip under a mask. Some are out with the the masked area so I've got some script to make the movieclip scroll the other thumbs into view of the masked area. Is there any code I can apply to the thumbs to check if they are in or not in view of the masked area?

Can I get the obtain the size of the browser window in AS3?
The best method I've found is to get the size with Javascript and send it to Flash as a FlashVar. One limitation of this method is that it doesn't give the current size if the window is resized.

Whilst I did some flash YEARS ago, I am now needing to get back into it. And whilst I have a course booked, I need to do something now. I have downloaded a flash file with a mask from an image website. I want to double the size of the file, but the masking now only highlights part of the image.

I'm loading images from xml file. I want the images to have standard width when they are displayed.

I found this tutorial: [URL]. It works great but I wanted to add a little more to it. Currently it works with only one item displayed at a time. If I want to display more than one item, let say 2, I make the mask the size of the 2 items. The back button works fine because the X position is still the the same. However the next button does not account for the size of the mask and works like it did before.

I�ve built my site using external SWFS. The problem is; I want to keep the loaded SWF viewable until the next requested file is ready. At present, as soon as a button is clicked the screen goes blank and the new file�s preloader kicks in.

Im loading in my main swf, which will take the place of the preloader(which consists of the entrance) like so...

However, for some reason or other, my loaded swf isnt visible until i resize the stage.Ive been trying various things with the way the preloading is done, but it doesnt seem to change anything, and also ive tried taking out the tweens but that doesnt do anything either.

If you play fallingBlocks.swf you can see text in the upper left corner. Now if you go to moviePage.swf and click the little square at the top it loads fallingBlock.swf but the text is not displayed. The text is embedded.

So I have a URL that I need my Flash movie to extract variables from:

I'm able to get the full URL into a String via ExternalInterface

what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).

I have a Flex application that loads some data from the database. During this I want my custom preloader stay visible. When I postpone the dispatchEvent( new Event(Event.COMPLETE)) in the FlexEvent.INIT_COMPLETE handler, the loading will never happen because the next frame is not entered. How can I keep the loader running until all the data is fully loaded?

I have my main menu movieclip placed on the main stages and I use it to load some external swfs. However when I load them, the menu disappears because it is covered by the loaded swf. How can I set the depth of my top menu so that will always be visible when the external swfs are loaded? Should the depth be set on the main time line or inside the main manu movie clip? This is the code in my main menu that I am using to load the swfs but my main menu is a movie clip placed on the main timeline...

The company I work for has their own Flash based video player and the question I get from our execs is "Can we tell what website our player is embedded on?"At first, I hypothesized I could use Apache mod_rewrite, extract the HTTP_REFFER, and append it to the end of the requested URL. So as the browser gets http://.../viewer.swf, I could slap on ?However, I don't think our CDN will cater to our htaccess file. Plus, mostly all the access_log entries show a dash rather than the domain.So I'm casting this question our here to see if I catch any ideas or solutions. Currently, everything points to 'not possible'.

In the advanced search page you can specify 'near' a specific location and this 'near' parameter shows up clearly in the query string.However, Twitter does not support the use of 'near' in the public search api.Apparently you need to supply a geocode value.Can anyone suggest the best way for obtaining a geocode in Flash?
