Whilst I did some flash YEARS ago, I am now needing to get back into it. And whilst I have a course booked, I need to do something now. I have downloaded a flash file with a mask from an image website. I want to double the size of the file, but the masking now only highlights part of the image.

I found this tutorial: [URL]. It works great but I wanted to add a little more to it. Currently it works with only one item displayed at a time. If I want to display more than one item, let say 2, I make the mask the size of the 2 items. The back button works fine because the X position is still the the same. However the next button does not account for the size of the mask and works like it did before.

I would like to export it at a smaller size, so I go to Publish Settings and I notice I can change the width and height. How can I do this while maintaing its proportions? It is currently 791 x 275. Using CS3.
View 5 RepliesI'm using UILoader to load SWF files which I have no source for. These SWF files were created in AS2. They use masks. Width and height return unmasked values.
I'm trying to find the visible width and height of the clip so I can scale it properly.
For example I want a SWF to fit within a 50x50 space. The visible SWF is 65x65 (but I don't know this) and the unmasked size is 100x100. If I set the width and height of the loaded movieclip to 50x50, Flash scales the clip based on the unmasked portion, and I get a clip scaled much too small. Keep in mind I have no control of the SWF content, so I can not override width/height, or get mask size.
All I'm trying to do is load an external .swf file into a precise location on the stage of my existing Flash file. I've spent an hour and a half on this site search and found nothing. What do I add to my loadMovie command to place the file at specific x,y coordinates?

As it takes about 6 minutes for someone on dialup to load this file, I have created a smaller swf file and loaded the larger one from it but I don't want the larger one to begin to play until it's fully downloaded. View 1 RepliesI have a movie clip called volumecontrolbackground_mc that has a gradient in it. on rollover I want it to change the color of the gradients and on roll out go back to the default values. Any pointers on how I would accomplish this? I have seen the methods where you create a new movie clip and fill it with a gradient but none where you modify a existing gradient.

I've created a graphic and have multiple instances of the graphic on the stage. I've recently decided to change the graphic to a movieClip. However, changing the original clip's type to movieClip doesn't apply the change to all instances that I've already placed on the stage; they're still all graphics.
The only way I've been able to fix it is by manually selecting each one and changing their instance behavior from 'graphic' to 'movieclip'. Is there a faster way to do this, be it a command or an actionscript code? Anything that doesn't require me manually changing each instance would be a huge time saver.
I have three images and I want change the images size based on the scene size (default size is 1024x768). After each image has completely loaded I call bindableUtils.setter to set width/height when scene size changes but I don't know how to make a pointer or something like that. I'm using a public var img, but it only works with the last complete image.

I'm working on a slideshow where I'm calling in photos from an xml file. How do I tell AS to resize the stage according to photo dimensions? Would I need to list the dimensions in the xml file? If so, how would I pull that into the fla file with AS?

View 7 RepliesI'm reletively new to flash, and am trying to modify a template and am running into a problem and I don't seem to know why Flash is acting so strange. I am going into a movie clip to edit the color of an item, and when I do so with a tint, it overrides any additional effects such as light, and text. The color appears almost as if it were just slapped on top of everything. When I edit the color in advanced mode, it is really a hit-or-miss to get the correct color, and will only modify when changing the offset RGB.
And also when doing this, the text gradually changes color, for example: there are 4 items in total that I want to edit the color of. Each item is a different colored box with text on the front (for a main Navigation of the website). --- The first item, the text will stay white. Gradually through the second and third items it starts to change, and by the fourth / last item, the text is completely blue. Is it possible for a portion of text to be connected somehow to an object within the animation in a movieclip? If so, is it possible to go inside and edit this? -the shape, animation, and text? Is there an easier way to change the color of an item inside a movie clip? I can supply additional information if needed.. files etc.

View 1 RepliesI have a corporate flash-file which is pretty advanced, much more so than I could have developed myself. The company want this flash to have an intro screen before the actual content starts with a button choosing what of two parts to load. [code]I've tried with adding a frame before the actual content, adding an extra scene and loading the swf from another one. Nothing have worked so far and I am running out of ideas. The .fla-file only really consists of a background, some shadows since the actionscripts, images and other resources are external.

View 4 Repliesive gotten one movie clip to mask another in the actions frame but i cant seem to be able to mask the flames which are a shape with a movieclip in this as file. im not getting any errors but the mask isnt covering anything look near the bottom at s.mask=mask_mc; there are about 20 "s" shapes spawning per second if that has anything to do with it

The site is created and I tested it on all resolutions but some are complaining some text is too small to read easily. Is there a way to change the size of the entire flash website without having to go in and change individual font sizes and resizing all the graphics?
View 3 RepliesI am new to Flash and was trying to start a website for my photography business. I have an up and running version of Flash Pro CS4 with all updates. I purchased a full flash template from [URL] hoping to just open the .fla file and go to work editing. No such luck. When I click on the main.fla file, all the components seem to load in the library, however in the timeline, I only show like 9 random layers. When I run the timeline, all I get is a bunch of lines, squares, etc running on and off the stage. When I click "publish" the layers and components run fine with all the default content. The template came in a ZIP file and after extracting, I get the usual files, .fla, .html, .XML, .SWA, etc. All the components seem to be in the .fla file. What am I missing? I know there should be more layers in the timeline, but I cant find them. My troubleshooting has been to confirm that the template is good with CS4 and ActionScript 3.0. I've tried different settings to include changing the pixel size, but nothing.

View 4 RepliesI want to modify an existing xml file (membres.xml) starting from flash by using sendAndLoad() and while passing by a php file. I control rather well flash, I know xml better and better but I know the php still little. My progamming is partly inspired from this tutorial: [URL]. But something still does not function. This is why I need your assistance. All seems to function, but my xml file (membres.xml) remains unchanged.
Flash:
In flash, after having loaded and having modified the file membres.xml, I use sendAndLoad to send my xml object to the php file:
reload_xml.sendAndLoad("envoiexml.php", membres_xml);
A trace of the xml object did right before sendAndLoad shows that the xml object reload_xml was modified correctly. The error must thus logically be further. Here now the php code in the file envoiexml.php:

So I have a text which is saying for instance "hello". And when i press a button there is an animation which starts to erase the "hello" text and a pencil is writing a second text. So somewhere in the middle there is a blank text holder( i mean the place where the text is suppose to be)! The question is - is there a way with code when the animation have reached a certain frame to change the text because i can't do it with animation!

But when I tried with the following option it doesn't show the background, it shows only movie which is playing nicely. I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?
I have developed a video player in adobe flash cs4 and used all vector arts but when I open this fla file in Adobe Flash CS5 and published it, the swf file size more then fla file.

I would like to run a .swf file into an existing flash file, but the dimension size of the .swf file is too big. I am a beginner to flash and not sure of the steps to execute this. Would anyone be willing to walk me through the steps to import the code?
View 1 Replies what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).
