What is the reason for the enormass bloating of FLA file size, when many edits and saves are made to a FLA file, yet assets are not being added to the library? What is the best technique to keep FLA files smaller in size? (with the problem described below. I am not talking about published SWF files or asset management)Over many edits and many saves of my FLA files, they become 30 times the size on disk from where they start out. Example 750k can get as high as 34mb. In the past "save and compact" used to fill the role of reducing FLA file sizes but now that feature is gone.When I save as a CS4 file then back to CS5 the file becomes much smaller after it has become bloated, BUT I take a risk every time I do this that the file will become corrupted (I've had corruptions happen).I have read that files which were created in CS5 and are never in the format of CS4 don't have this problem, but I find that theory unlikely since I have tried to follow this rule to no success.
I have also read that every FLA file tracks its "history" of assets. So adding and removing assets to the library will sometimes cause bloating because old assets that are removed from the library remain in the FLA file. This seems bogus because there is no purpose to this, but could be an indication of a bug in Adobe Flash Professional CS5, and CS5.5.Personal details: the files I am editing contain personally created flash components, images, audio, many symbols (20+) but no embedded video.For me personally, this bloating is a problem because I'm dealing with hundreds of flash FLA files that should be about 1-4mb in size but are instead much larger. The overall effect is that I end up with gigabytes of files instead of hundreds of mbs.

trying to work out why Flash is publishing an unexpected swz file with one recent project. From what I can tell this is an optional run-time library used to reduce file size. My problem is that it is causing all sorts of text formatting grief when I try to import my swf into Adobe Captivate. how I can publish a swf without generating a swz? Why on earth has Flash opted to generate this unexpected file in the first place (assuming user error, but can't work out what I've done)?

I want to know if it is possible to create a vector based file (PDF) from a web based Flash application. The application would be a 'Design it yourself' type deal, it would just be a fancy text generator. All this will be designed by the user using the flash application.What I want to know is once the user has finished designing their text, can this 'creation' then be exported as preferably a PDF, or Jpg, etc. once the user submits the design?

Is there any "mainstream" library used for this purpose? Commonly spread, well maintained, documented etc.I found these (using flash):
Uploadify - not many releases, latest 12/2010, no documentation (!)
SWFUpload - latest release 03/2010, documentation
fancyupload - looks buggy.
phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

The only thing I get is a swf file.I don't really know why Flash CS 5.5 refuses to generate my project's apk file since I've never encountered a problem like this before. Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? My player is set to AIR for Android,I have my certificate,I don't get any errors, and debugging on my device via USB works flawlessly.

I need to know what the details are of the file permissions of an adobe AIR app. Specifically, to where can may it write text files? Anywhere on the local system? I heard Adobe has a set of "Sandbox Permissions" but these just confuse me as I don't know where they apply. Additionally I wish to know if you need some kind of special permission to append to a file somewhere on the system.

For some reason I am unable to create a FLV file from a MP4 file with high bitrate. I even created a custom setting and specified bitrate as 2500 but the output file is always around 775.

I'm trying to dynamically create links from data in a JSON file.
I can load the JSON file and extract the data, but I'm not sure how to keep track of which URLs go to which titles.
For example, I create a text box and put the words "AOL Homepage" in it and another that says "Google Homepage". I know their respective URLs are [URL] and [URL], but how do I store that information so that when someone clicks on "AOL Homepage" it knows to take them to [URL]
I considered creating a dictionary that stores Titles and URLs so that whenever someone clicks "AOL Homepage" it looks that up in the dictionary and sees [URL]. However, if there are two equal titles, this method will not work.

[Bindable]
public var ba:ByteArray = new ByteArray;
//.... code ....//
[Code]....
But it does not work=( - gives me Error: Error #2030: End of file was encountered.
How to get a full bytearray from stream to use it as normal bytearray?

I'm working on an Adobe Air Desktop App ATM. My question is how to get the icon for a given file extension, but without actually loading up a file of such type.
I had the idea to just create a blank file for the extension and then delete it once i have the bitmap for its icon, but that seemed like too much trouble and kinda inefficient.
So for example i want to get the icon associated with a .txt file, or .html file. Is their any way of doing such without having to directly reference and existing file , or create a temporary one as mentioned above?

I'm building an Air app that uses an .app/.exe file as a bridge to hardware devices.
Ideally, I would like to include the executable with the Air app installer and launch the external program together with the Air app.
How do decide which OS specific file to launch?
EDIT: OK, the above wasn't very difficult:
var file:File = File.applicationDirectory;
file = file.resolvePath("src/assets/NativeApps");
if (Capabilities.os.toLowerCase().indexOf("win") > -1) {

I am trying to use the SecureSWF demo to package an Adobe AIR application in order to determine if we should buy the full version of SecureSWF for our project. The AIR file was created with the Flash CS5 authoring tool (not Flex).
However, I have not been able to find clear instructions on how to secure an AIR file using the software. I opened the installer (my_installer.air) in the program and it prompted me to find the adt.jar file; however, searching my system I found about 10 of these, relating to different Adobe programs. I chose the one associated with Flash CS5. I selected my certificate and signed it with the correct password. Right now I am just running in test mode to try to get a working file. However, after running secureSWF on the file, it will not install, giving the error "The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author."
I have a feeling that this has something to do with either the adt.jar file or the certificate not being signed properly. But I have no idea what to do now and we really need to be able to obfuscate this project.
Has anyone used secureSWF with AIR before? Am I doing this wrong (i.e. should I be using the program with the project's swf file instead?)
