View 5 RepliesI have created a custom 3d wall gallery and I would like to mask it to give it right and left fades. I have posted the code that places the images on the stage but for the life of me I cannot mask it. Themc in the library mask_mc already has the correct gradient so now how do I add it to the top of the dynamic gallery?

I have an AS3 Flash 10 app that uses the mouse to dynamically update the perspective center of the the Flash stage using the Flash's native 3D. An issue exists when I dynamically load in an external SWF into a container that exists as a 3D movieclip (this is done by simply setting the z axis of the container to 1). When the dynamically loaded SWF is loaded the buttons in that SWF stop working. If I go back to the host program (the program loading in the swf) and 'remove transform' on the container where the dynamic SWF to reside. The dynamically loaded SWF works as expected. Have you ever heard of this issue? Do you know of any solution or workaround to this while keeping the SWF external?
FYI... there are actually a few pixels on the stage that DO in fact trigger the action of the button but the location of this trigger is completely unrelated to the visual location of the button itself. This reaction to the dynamically loaded native 3D element seems very unusual.
I have several external SWFs loading into another SWF shell that contains all the files. The problem that I am running into is when some of the external SWF's are loaded into the shell the links stop working. I am using the getURL script to call a javascript function on one link and the same getURL on another link to call the mailto function.
When I test these files on my system and the web, both individually and in the shell, everything works perfectly. However, as soon as I embed the shell SWF into an html page these links don't work and won't do anything. But other links in different external SWF using the getURL script to simply navigate to another html page works perfectly.
ive gotten one movie clip to mask another in the actions frame but i cant seem to be able to mask the flames which are a shape with a movieclip in this as file. im not getting any errors but the mask isnt covering anything look near the bottom at s.mask=mask_mc; there are about 20 "s" shapes spawning per second if that has anything to do with it

i have a swf file which is a framework file done in puremvc and i m loading multiple swf files. one of the swf file loaded into the main swf file loads multiple sub swf files in it. works fine but in the loaded swf file which loads multiple swf files in it.. button dosent work at all. i m not able to click on any button. i m jst making a tree structure so can be easily understood..
container swf -> external swf -> miniSwf file and in miniSwf dynamic button are not clickable but they have all the Mouse eventListeners.
What I want to achieve is this. I want a picture of a car that is dry as the background. On top of that a picture of the same car, but wet. I then want an image of a chamois that the user can click on and use to "remove" the water off the car, by "erasing" the picture off the top layer. Is this something that is achieveable.[code]...
View 2 RepliesI am creating a very simple mask using motion tweening. I created some text on a layer and made it a masked layer. Then I created a mask layer which consists of a circle that will span across the text. When I play the movie the circle does not show up at all in the frames the mask layer spans (it's purple on a black background) and the circle does not move across the text like I told it to with the motion tweening. I don't know why it's not working. For some reason the circle isn't showing on the stage at all and it's not moving across the text. I don't know if I have it set up wrong on the timeline or what. Here's the steps I followed to create the mask:
1.insert a new layer in which I named it mask and click frame 1 on this layer
2. select the oval tools on the tools panel and set the stroke to none
3. set the fill color to purple
4. draw a circle and click the selection tool and drag a marquee around the circle to select it.
5. click insert on the menu bar, click motion tween then click ok in dialog box about converting it to a symbol to be tweened
6. click the last frame in the mask layer and drag the circle to the end of the line of text
7.click mask on the timeline to select the mask layer, click modify on the menu bar, point to timeline then click layer properties
8. verify the show check box is selected in the name section, click the lock check box to select it, click the mask option button in he type section, then click ok.
9. play the movie in which the circle object covers the text on the masked layer as it moves across the stage.

I've got a movieclip with two layers - a background movieclip, and above that, a mask movieclip (as you might guess, this layer is masking the first). Due to design necessity, the mask is animated on the timeline across 60 frames.The problem arises when I use an Event.RESIZE listener to change the width of the parent movieclip when the browser window is resized. Any code to reference the mask, i.e
parentMC.contentMask.width = stage.stageWidth;
parentMC.contentMask.x = frame.width/2 - frame.contentMask.width/2;
Simply results in the mask animation not playing at all.
I've read through umpteen Flash threads of frustrated users who export SWF and anything visible outside the stage appears in the SWF when opened in a browser.None of the solutions have worked for me.My file is called statement_onlineheader.fla.URL...I have my mask layer above a folder containing all other layers.I have also tried moving the mask layer above individual layers.Stuff outside the stage appears in the exported SWF.
View 5 RepliesI'm using UILoader to load SWF files which I have no source for. These SWF files were created in AS2. They use masks. Width and height return unmasked values.
I'm trying to find the visible width and height of the clip so I can scale it properly.
For example I want a SWF to fit within a 50x50 space. The visible SWF is 65x65 (but I don't know this) and the unmasked size is 100x100. If I set the width and height of the loaded movieclip to 50x50, Flash scales the clip based on the unmasked portion, and I get a clip scaled much too small. Keep in mind I have no control of the SWF content, so I can not override width/height, or get mask size.
I download "scrollbar_vfinal_2004 from this site and use it my own movie but when I test the movie, the text is not showing. Without text lay mask, the scrollbar works.

I have created a vector shape mask on the timeline that does different shape tweens. There is a movieclip container that is under the mask. When i dynamically load a movieclip from the library into that masked container, it will disappear after the keyframe of the shape tweened mask is reached. Why is that so? Isn't that illogical? I attached a simple fla demo.

View 13 Replies[code]The problem is that the mask isn't applied. Now, if I just add mask_container it adds to the stage just fine. If I mask mask_container with square, it masks just fine. They're both Sprites so both are on the display list.

I can successfully mask a circle over a rectangle, and even mask a rectangle over text, but text over a gradient rectangle just doesn't work - I end up with the rectangle moving across the stage, but no text mask.

How do you turn a dinamically attached MC into a mask? I know it works if I actually draw the mask with AS, but is it possible using a library MC (animated)?.
View 3 RepliesIn my .fla file, I have a mask that masks one layer that has one movie clip in my .fla file. When I run the file, all symbols that are added at runtime are masked as well. Is there a way to initially mask one symbol on the stage and have all dynamically added symbols not masked? I tried setting the dynamically added symbols like so:
example.mask=null;
But this did not work.

I'm trying to dynamically generate a menu for a site. I have one movieclip that i duplicate and i want all those duplicates to share a mask.

This causes only the first menuitem to use the mask. After some searching i found that i should combine all these generated movieclips into one container movieclip and ultimately mask that container with myMask. I tried some createEmptyMovieClip, attachMovie & setMask combo's but it doesnt seem to work.
what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).
I've tried to make an alpha mask using a photo and a mask containing a alpha gradient. Using this code:

But it's not working? The 'blob' mask in the center should motion tween bigger. I can see the alpha mask in action, but the motion tween doesn't do anything. The image is freezing.
I have a mask with a MC with 9ss and for some reason when I resize that MC it doesnt use the 9ss. Does anyone have a fix for this?
View 12 RepliesI've hit a wall trying to get this to work: - I've created a movie clip that contains 14 layers, each layer is a 3D Y-rotation using a motion tween on a movieclip object (just a solid rectangle) - Trying to emulate a venetian blind transition effect When I put this "mask" movie clip on my timeline, it won't allow me to use this as a mask!! - I tried setting up the mask in AS3 as well, using imgMC.mask = maskMC; Does Flash allow this? Can I use 3D motion tweens as masks? it doesn't seem to allow it. I was hoping maybe I missed something.
View 2 RepliesI have Flash CS4 and I'm developing an RPG game. My goal is to dynamically change the weapon/armor the main hero has on according to what the player has on. I think the term is paper dolling. Basically I want to be able to set a point in which a graphic (movie clip/w.e) can be place permanently and I can load images to it via actionscript 3. I want the point to stay on the hero becuase I plan to move him and animate him and I want to be able to have it so that all it takes is me loading an image to the hero so it will basically "mask" over him. Hope you guys understand what I'm saying, I'm having a hard time figuring this out.
View 3 RepliesYou know when you "liquify" something in Photoshop, and then you have all these different options to push parts of the picture around. Is there any way to make a region that will basically "re-liquify" every frame, no matter what is underneath of it?
