Actionscript 3 :: Build A Dynamic Resize-able Flash Player?
Nov 9, 2009
Morning stackers! So my question today isn't dealing with any code, but how to go about this the correct way from the start. I have a video player built to a static size (max: 800x600) which I'll have to re-code every time I need it to be a different size. What I need it to do in the near future is dynamically resize itself and all the elements inside of it based on 1 width variable that it will received either from HTML or XML. Now to me there are 2 ways to go about this:
Start with the smallest size possible and resize upwards, but I'm unsure of how the Flash movie will actually expand upwards as of right now.
Or 2, start with the largest size possible (in this case 800x600) and size everything down. Step 1, I think seems to be the better way to go about this (ala YouTube style), but Step 2 also seems like it could be the easier way? A friend of mine mentioned that I should go with the larger size and have elements resize in each class, then fix to the upper left hand corner. However for the player to fit inside of certain div columns on sites, blogs whatever he said that there will have to be an HTML/CSS side of this... meaning that the div containing the resized flash player will have to cover up the areas of the Flash movie that are not to be shown? Is that possible to put a 800x600 flash movie into a div that smaller then 800 pixels wide? And cover it up with another div?
I am trying to build a flash player for my company's Shoutcast server, and have seen a few articles about it on the 'net, including this SO question here. However, I can't seem to get the audio stream to actually play. It seems to be connecting alright, but calling stream.play() doesn't seem to do anything.
public function stream() { private var url:URLREQUEST = "my.domain.com"; private var sStream:Sound = new Sound(); sStream.load(url); sStream.play(); }
I am trying to resize some hd video to fit in a flash player but the quality just dissapears the moment i do it. Does anybody know any good tips for preserving the quality ?
Build a web gallery with amazing flash slideshows with dynamic XML files Screenshot: Attachment 72395 Features Transitions, zooming and panning effect You can choose from Random, Wipe from Left, Fade to White, Cross Expansion and other 60-plus transition effects. Zooming and panning effect is optional for advanced flash templates. XML-driven This flash slideshow are XML-driven. The XML document allows more personalized controls over the flash. Auto-playback and repeat mode The flash slideshow will play automatically after preloading, and it can repeat playback.
Dynamic customization Besides XML control, the advanced templates provide many more custom options, so that you can create slideshow that fits into your existing web design: width , height, border color, background color, thumbnail size, etc. More about dynamic customization Usage and demo visit: [URL]

I have a flash video player in a div inside a webpage, I'm trying to create a button that will resize this div to fill the whole page and hide everything else behind it. Has anyone tried to do it?Problems:1. It causes the flash to reload and the video to restart2. In some cases a flash banner from the webpage overlays my video player no matter what z-index I give it.
It's with a Flash overlay that has been custom made to overlap a .flv video running in Flowplayer (open source video player at flowplayer.org) The Flash overlay is mostly transparent and just includes a few buttons over top the video to allow visitors to share, email and visit a related website. Take a look here for example:[URL]
The video and Flash buttons work fine when videos are played within Flowplayer at normal size in the browser, but when making it fullscreen using Flowplayer, the Flash overlay plugin does not resize to fullscreen with it. Then, when made regular size again it gets distorted, as you can see from the example.
I know it might involve creating a custom onResize() function, but I haven't figured this out yet with Flowplayer. There are vague instructions & snippets of code here under "Layout management" section on flowplayer . org/documentation/developer/writing-flash-plugins.html
Code: override public function onResize():void { /* set _childButton width according to my new width,
[Code]....
Interesting, but doesn't tell me much of what to do. I have a feeling it might involve making a new .as class in Flash and associating it to the custom buttons overlay .swf. On the right track?
get the overlay to resize using onResize and what code should be used would be very helpful. Others may be also trying to make custom overlay plugins too, and the fullscreen issue would be the next step to know after that and make it look more complete.
In TFS 2010 build, I have a new build and I want to call an ant script that builds Flash. How do I call the ant script? Also How can I compile the Flash directly? I've seen the Power Tools and this question but it doesn't help me as we don't have TFS 2008. I can't find any documentation on how to use the power tools except the 1 sentence on the bottom of download page saying to create your build the old way and import it (which isn't very helpful). I've installed the power tools on the agent computer but I don't see any new options in the Toolbox when I'm designing the build flow.
I tried to build a multiple flv player using ActionScript 2 (Flash 8) and managed to get a working model on my desktop, but it still won't function from the web server.
In my game the player can create turrets, those turrets will be put into a array but my problem is that i dont want the player to be able to build 2 turrets or more on the same spot. this is what i have tried so far:
I like to build an video player width a syncron diashow.So there should be a video connected to a xml file which contains the time and the image path. When the video passes one cue point, the image should change.I tried the component flvplaybackcaptioning, but this component only works with text.?

I would like to build a dynamic webdatabase.(One form that updates text and bit-maps.)I must use Microsoft ACCESS or mySQL.Is it possible and is there any video tutorials out there?I heard a lot of "tissling and tassling" that flash is not well suited to work with databases.
I want to build an interactive horizontal slider that shows a percentage number depending on where the slider is located. here goes:
<---------45% X 55%------------->
Basically, sliding "X" either left or right would reflect the correct percent in the numbers. For example, sliding "X" all the way to the left would show the left percent at 100% and the right percent at 0%.
I'm using netstream in a video player that uses Flashvars to play flvs. The problem is that all the flvs are different dimensions. I'm not exactly sure how to handle this. (I know components stretch to fit, but I like using netstream.)
I am attempting to create a custom FLV player in flash that will allow me to link to an external FLV file in the html object code. This is in order to easily change a video that will appear on a client's index page dynamically. Currently I am using an external player that does exactly what I wish to do (URL...). However the client I'm building the site for requires a custom built player. My abilities in Flash (CS3) are limited but I have scripted in ActionScript and worked in Flash many times before.[code]As I stated, this links to a free third-party player, which is great, but I'd really need to build to my own. I have built a basic player in flash already using the FLVPlayback control, but am unsure on the details of making it dynamic.
...to a totally dynamic UI based on what is returned from the DB.I've read about role-based access control and understand that it's best that the server generates the UI after a user is authenticated, but apart from re-doing the entire backend to store MXML et al., is there a better approach? Is it a bad idea to have a Permissions object that has properties like:
The components visibility and includeInLayout properties will be bound to these values. The UI will also allow a user to create new roles and set permissions.The only drawback I see is that every time a new feature is added, the app will have to be recompiled to update the bindings.
I'm trying to brainstorm ideas on a site I'm managing. [URL]. (Once the page loads, click on "The Fixx" menu option). On this page, I have a list of radio shows that this DJ has produced. It's a compilation of songs that he posts up twice a week roughly. Currently the way it's setup... is you can click the button and it opens a pop up window with a player that plays the corresponding file. However... I want to be able to have a window open up that has a playlist of the songs contained in that mixshow in the bottom (Not something they will be able to click on to go to a particular song, just something that tells them what is on this show) and the player at the top. I also would like the capability of dragging through the song so they don't have to listen to the whole thing. Currently it's abit cumbersome, and I know it'll drive more viewers if I add playlist functionality.
I need to create a dynamic movie player in the flash website, i tried Import Video... (File > Import >) , then i put a relative URL of xml file (e.g. xspf.xml) under the "Already deployed on web server..." option. but the video doesn't show nothing at all.
This is my code in xspf.xml:

is there any other better or easier way to create an flv player within flash website which support multiple video file as a playlist?
Does there exist a library / program that can play mp3 files using flash as html5 fallback dynamically? By dynamically, I mean that the player can switch the current mp3 thats playing, even after dom has loaded. The problem I run into with most flash audio players is that they depend on the song being loaded when the dom loads, but my website loads songs through ajax.
ive set out on a quest to make a completly dynamic .mp3 player in flash...
1) load in what mp3s to play from a txt file and put it in an array 2) Display the available mp3s in a drop down box * 3) once a music selection is chosen, show a loading bar of untill it is finished** 4) have play pause stop rewind fastforward functionality *** 5) wasent 4 enough??
* or just make it so u can press buttons to loop thru selection next song , previous song and so on. and current song selection is showed in a dynamic text box, and the play button initiates download
** also gonna try to makit it so that the music file starts playing once enough has been loaded, that it will complete loading the sound before it gets to the point at which it is still loading (but that i think i can handle.. having more troubel with the rest)
Is possible to create dynamic bar chart for flash mp3 player?I mean the similar effect like in Winamp or others music players (WMP) to display bar chart depending on the sound intensity.
I have been working on this project in flash player 9 until two days ago when we needed to implement a few features that are only available in flash player 10, such as the FileRefrence.save() method. everything worked seamlessly when I change it to 10 except for one thing, when loading an as2 swf into my app. It works fine when previewing, but when I publish, the legacy swf does not appear. here's my loading code,
Code: private function loadExtSwf () { imgLoader = new Loader() loadFile="legacySWF.swf"
I have Buttons which I have rotated vertically within a Canvas, that is working fine. The problem occurs, when the user resizes the window to a small size a vertical scroll bar appears, I would rather have each button squashed upto a smaller size.
I just started working with ant a few days ago. Right now I have a general buildall.xml which should call each project's build.xml. Because some projects depend on each other, I need to rebuild some other projects which depend on it. This isn't a problem--I'm just setting the depends property of the target. However, ant is always building the dependencies, even when the files haven't changed.Let's say project1 has no dependencies; project2 depends on project1; project3 depends on project1, 2; project4 depends on project1, 2, and 3; and so on.I could hack a solution which looks at project K, and checks if project 1 .. project K have updated files using uptodate. If so, then run the target. This is messy and appears unnecessary.
What is the cleanest way to implement this?EDIT: So I decided to just hack in a bunch of targets, "check_projectK" where it does the uptodate checks on all of its source files, its build file, and the build files of the 1 .. K-1 projects. Due to dependencies, this is always handled correctly. However, this is still a large amount of copy and paste for a large workspace.
