I have 2 movie clips, one being loaded into a container MC via "loadMovie();"In the main movie there is a variable with no value, in the external movie there are 5 frames, each with a value to update the variable in the main movie.
IE: if on frame 1, global value = 1 / if on frame 2, global value = 2 / etc etc I'm familiar with passing variables INTO an external swf, but am stumped on how to do it the reverse way.
I am trying to do is declare a variable in PHP and pass that variable to my flash file. Right now i am simply trying to do 1 easy variable, more will happen in the future but i need to figure this out first.I have used other forums and they say try this and that, but nothing i do seems to work. here is my code.

I Have a flashmovie thats almost done and will soon hit the internet, but I want to add some animations into the website its two gears that Im about to put at the bottom of the page and when a button releases in the main flashmovie the two bottom gears will turn a few frames and just stand still.These three movies are all separate (main movie, first gear and second gear).
It's a homepage designed in HTML and flash that has this "main flashmovie" in the middle of the screen, the size is about 1500(width)X800(height). And the gears is about 800wX200h placed at the left and right side bottom of the page. Dont worry the site is easy to apply to any screen resolution.I have been looking everywhere for any soul out there who suffering from the same problem but no success. Is it possible to script a button in the main movie to launch two separate movies in their own contents?

I've created a Flash video player that I regularly embed into HTML pages and use flashvars to update the path of the video to be played. The variable that I reference is named "videoURL" and is passed as a flashvar using "'flashvars', 'videoURL=myVideo.flv,"
The problem that I am having is when passing that same variable into my SWF when it is loaded externally into a new Flash file. I load the child SWF into my main FLA using the Loader class and I am able to run a successful trace on my variable using "trace(MovieClip(loader.content).videoURL);"
Obviously, I can't overwrite the variable with "videoURL = 'newVideo.flv'" as I have not defined videoURL in the main FLA. So my question is, how do I target my child SWF and what method do I use to pass it a variable? I'd assume that the correct method would also allow me to call a function from within the child SWF.
I hope that someone can explain this to me as every "solution" I've come across either suggests using HTML or Javascript, references AS2, or simply doesn't directly address my problem.
I have an external log file which name changes each session, with the format XXXXX.log
I need to load it inside a swf to show its data, but each time the logs name is different, I need to open the .fla, changing the name of the file and then republishing the swf.
So I have made a simple script to load another .txt, to type manually in it the 5 number of the logs name and load it externally inside the swf:
Code:
var logNumLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
logNumLoader.dataFormat=URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
logNumLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadedLogNum);
[Code]....
While I cannot assign the value of logNum to the last function, the .log cannot be opened.

I have a video player which plays several files which I can replace externally. I want a viewer to be able to click on a movie and be taken to a specified web page (HTTP)
I do not want to have to open and update the swf every time I change the movies.
Can I load the contents of a .txt file which contains the web address and the use that veriable to replace the address in navigateToURL command.
I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?

View 3 RepliesWhat I want to do is load the contents of a file and sent it to an mxmlc compiler as an argument parameter. I can load and read the contents of a file using loadfile and setting a property value say propery="filecontent". But the problem is I can pass it into the mxmlc (flex) compiler. I'm not able to pass it (tried with ${filecontent}) to the arg line. Its gives an error: "value contains unknown token 'filecontent'" How will I pass the contents of the file as a argument value to a compiler argument? Edit: The problem is with the include-resource-bundles arguments. When using command line it works. But using ant build doesn't. Do we need to manually provide the name of resource bundles by generating the resource file?
<exec executable="${MXMLC}" dir="${APP_ROOT}/src" >
<arg line="-locale 'en_US'"/>
.. .. ..
<arg line="-include-resource-bundles

which doesn't work and gives and error -> command line: Error: configuration variable 'include-resource-bundles' value contains unknown token 'resources'
I am adding some movieclips dynamically to stage. If we click on the movieclips, they goto and stop at frame 2. The Click Event for the Movieclip is defined in the base class
Code:
package {
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code].....
But, I cannot figure out how to get the name of the movieclip.
I cannot add click event for movieclips in flash, because there is already a click event in the class file.
I want to pass a string variable to a SWF so that I can specify a XML file to load without republishing the SWF. When I assign the string variable to a textfield it is correct.But when I use that variable in the loader it does not display the XML from that file.You can see below that I commented out the string "lesson_11/images/0301_objectives.xml".If I put this string in the loader it works, if I use the string variable in its place it does not work.
Code:
var xmlFileToLoad:String;
var myQueryString:Object;

I need to pass a variable value contained within a MovieClip to my class file. The MovieClip is my preloader, to which my code will show that upon the initial launch of the SWF. Until the variable is sent, my code assumes the preloader is still running and therefore will not progress. Originally, it was working when I had my class file extend MovieClip and then used this code in the preloader MC:

I'm trying to create a simple SWF file that can receive the name of a FLV file in the HTML file and play it since I have many FLV files. Basically using the technique of FlashVars. I've set the contentPath/source in the components to be blank, and set my actions in the first frame to be player.source = filename, as was instructed to do so in a Flash book I am reading. I then set the "filename" variable to a file in the same path as the web page in the HTML file, however, all I get is a blank Flash player skin. The FLV file will not load. I also tried setting the "filename" variable to load the FLV from a public website in the same domain and on another domain, but it still doesn't work.
