Actionscript 3 :: Preloading Main Class Constructor Can't Reference Movieclips
Aug 17, 2011
I modified an Adobe Flash CS5 sample to create a swf with a preloader. In my FLA I've two stopped frames:In the first frame I only put this code (and a textfield showing percentage):[code]When I test the Adobe sample (it has no main class on frame 2, only a large image) anything works fine, but when I compile the modified version I get strange errors. In the Main class constructor I reference three movieclips, eg. this way: myClip.alpha=0, but it seems now Flash can't see them anymore (they are null). Why?
I've been programming with AS2 for a few years and I just made the switch to AS3. I'm hoping there is an easy solution to this problem. I have a class 'Actor' (extends MovieClip) that needs to hitTestPoint on a nested MovieClip 'root.World.walls' in a function moveRight(). The line of code looks like this: ...while (MovieClip(root).World.walls.hitTestPoint(pnt.x, pnt.y, true)) {... But I keep getting various errors when I try different solutions.
when to use this in a classes?is there any specific rule?is it wrong to use this when you want to just access the stage that way?or is it better to pass the reference to the stage in the class constructor?
I have flash application with main document class, components which are on the scene are instancied at runtime, contrustor of these components are call before main class, but i'd like to execute code before main class and components instanciation, how can i do this ? i tried to create an actionscript layer at frame 1 but still not work.
I'm writing an Air application using only Actionscript, and Flex3 SDK as the compiler. Everything compiles and runs fine under adl, but when the final air file is built and installed, the main class is never initialized.[code]When run under ADL, "Init" will be output to the console, but when installed and run, nothing happens (the constructor for class main is never called).
my movie is linked to an external class called game, and in the game cosntructor I am trying to access instances on my stage. I have tried MovieClip(root).instancename, root.instancename and even tried adding an event listener to listen when the movie is done loading because I thought maybe it was because the instances on the stage weren't created before the constructor is ran. This is the main class, shouldn't it be easy?
I have a FLA (say Main.FLA) document class with a child MovieClip on the stage: into the child MovieClip I load other swf files: each of the files contains its own Document Class (every swf is a somewhat independent application, say quizzes and so on).For some reason I must use the Main document class to store data (scores or so) from the child swfs loaded into the Main swf. HOW do I reference the Main class? I can't find a way.[code]and dispatch an Event this way from the loaded swf document class to the Main class:[code]Now, first of all I don't know if this could even work. Secondly, I tried to make it work by adding an event listener to my Main class but id did not work.
I have a MovieClip, that I'm going to add to the display list with my document class at runtime beacuase there will be many instances of it. The MoviClip "box" has 3 more MovieClip instances inside it,and each of those three have two more.It looks like this:
I'm having a weird behaviour with some some classes that I'm making. It seems that the Boolean values from arguments get changed on the way. I have two classes. On is called Carousel and the other Activity. The Carousel main task is to instantiate several Activity objects and place them in a way that resembles a carousel. This part is done, but there's a problem passing arguments from Carousel to Activity. Some data to instantiate the Activity come from an XML file. The XML resembles something like this:
I have a hard to track down bug. Basically, in the main class, in the constructor, I load an xml file.Sometimes it fails to load, without giving an error. Then, when I refresh the page, it loads. It seems like it might be some kind of race condition, but I'm not %100 sure. I though about firing the xml loading code off a timer after one second, but that seems messy.
I am creating a Weapon class for a game and the weapons itself will be the sub classes. The sub classes will hard code some values (such as max ammo and the weapon name).
I trying to access this declared data in the base class constructor, at the moment it's not outputting the values. Is this possible?
My current workaround is creating a protected method in the base class to trace the information and calling that method in the sub class's constructor, this works fine but this doesn't seem like the most efficient technique?
I will have a main.swf that has 3 buttons in th emain swf is a movieclip that will load in the new movies when clicking on one of the 3 buttons. when i click on one of the buttons the movieclip content will dim to 50% alpha or something like that then the preloader starts preloading in the main swf and when he is finished the new swf appaers.
I have a problem with preloading external swf's into my main movie actually I have a a seperate preloader setup for each external SWF and when i click a button to load an external movie its not showing a preloader it anoying to wait while movie loading without seeing a prelaoder.
I've am currently working on my new design for my site. Now all of the new "hot" sites have a bit of animation before the main preloader starts. I want to do the same thing. Have a few elements animate in, and then the main preloader begins....
Because it doesn't lie on the first frame... the preloader doesnt work... The only way I could fathom a way to make this work is to have a swf with the initial animations, and then at the end of the animation... replace that swf with another that begins the preload.. I don't know how to do this, and I really don't think this is the way things are done.
Questions:
Is is possible to have a main swf replaced by another?
-if not-
Can anyone lead me into a direction where I might find some instruction on preloading in the middle of the main timeline?
I have a full flash website which is broken down into:
- Main movie which contains navigation and interface components
- Several content movies which are loaded into the main movie on demand
- An intro movie which is around 3MB in size; its a full CG movie.
At the moment the main movie preloads and then the intro movie preloads afterwards in a sequence; like so:
Main Movie > Intro Movie > Content Loads
There is a skip intro option which will skip the intro movie step and jump right to the content load once the main movie has loaded.
My client wants me to do something which is proving very difficult and I am starting to wonder if its even possible as searches on the net have given results which don't really work properly.
Here is what I need to do:
When the main movie is requested, its preloader appears which it has a load bar and a "skip intro" button. The difference being, this preloader will be loading the main movie AND the preloader; which the load bar representing both movies load progress.
To complicate matters, if the skip intro button is pressed, the preloader needs to drop the intro movie from the equation and just account for the main movie & thus skip the intro; straight to the content.
The way I have tried to do it is to have a preloader code in the intro which sends the total size and bytesloaded back to the main movie which deals with those values, adding it onto its own size. This is proving cumbersome and although appeared to be working, isn't working propery.
I have a flash movie with a lot of linked movieclips in my library (mc's with linkage names). I have a preloader in the beginning of the flash movie. However, the preloader doesn't show until (I guess) all those linked movieclips are downloaded first. Then the preloader starts showing, starting at something like 40% . How can I include the linked movieclips in my preloading, such that the preloader shows straight away, from 0% ?
Click on a thumbnail and the corresponding image is preloaded BEFORE scaling and moving smoothly from the thumbnail position to a target position. (the thumbnail is actually the container for the loaded image, and therefore also moves to the target) I have got everything to work, except that the thumbnail moves whilst the image is still loading. This problem defeats the purpose of the gallery, and I'm starting to get blurry vision now!
I hope I have made everything clear, but since this is quite difficult to explain, I have attached the fla and images. *You will need to simulate download in flash for the current preloader to work. P.s. much of the script was (heavily) adapted from an fla I found somewhere, in which the images are arranged into a circle.
I am currently building an mp3 player with a little screen which displays some images in a certain order. Everything is loaded in through XML. I would like to preload those images together with my main movie (using the same preloader bar), so the images can be used later. How would I accomplish this?
I am trying to things efficiently and put as little code as possible on the timeline.
I have a document class loading and working at runtime.
It creates a button that takes me to a different frame on the timeline.
I have a movie clip there. I put a trace in the constructor of the class of that movie clip but it will not show the trace comment in the output window-its not working. There are no errors.
I also tried instantiating the same movie clip from the document class-which worked-but the trace in it's class's constructor still does not output.
I'm making a class called 'player', and really, I don't need a constructor function for it. Do you just outline the function, but don't put anything between the curly braces? Also, I'm a bit new with access levels. If I wanted my functions from my player class to be accessible from the main class, do I make them public?
For Example: package{ public class A { var test:String; public function A() }} class B{ } The code is in the same file, we call B is inner class, then how to call the constructor of class B
I'm doing something - probably very stupid - with an external library swf. That swf so far contains two buttons each with their own classes 'Simple_Button' and 'Simple_Pop_Button'. In the library swf document class I set up an object that lists the available classes:
i have some pretty simple code, i have my document class trying to add a santa class to the stage (simple game ) - but it will not add and i get not errors at all,Santa class:
I have a custom class, MyMC. The only argument the constructor takes is a string, which sets the text of a label inside MyMC.
In the Flash IDE I've placed an instance of MyMC, which is called mcOnStage, on the stage. Through the document's class Main I'd want to perform the constructor function of mcOnStage.
I would like to if someone to know why i have so big delay in my flash main file when I go to test the preloading bar with duble control enter... I have enable the status report file in flash wich say to me was I load a class (AS 3.0 Classes Export Frame) but i dont link any class in my file..
