ActionScript 2.0 :: Preloading Movieclips With Linkage Names?

I have a flash movie with a lot of linked movieclips in my library (mc's with linkage names). I have a preloader in the beginning of the flash movie. However, the preloader doesn't show until (I guess) all those linked movieclips are downloaded first. Then the preloader starts showing, starting at something like 40% . How can I include the linked movieclips in my preloading, such that the preloader shows straight away, from 0% ?

i know flash has problems with preloading files that use linkage... i know it has something to do with 'export in first frame'. because when you have that checked you can preload it because its on the same frame as the preloader... but if i dont have it checked it isnt exported and when i click a button i cant hear anything... how to work around this? how must i preload / link my embedded sound files?

If you try to add an object out of an linkagename in Flex you get errors. Like:1180: Call to a possibly undefined method [linkage name].If I don't want to create classes for every library symbol I'd like to add, is there any other way/praxis of doing this besides using 'getDefinitionByName', so that I won't get errors in Flex?

here is a more detailed version of my previous post. I have multiple buttons with random sounds being played on release through linkage of those sounds. Some buttons have 3 sounds, some have 2, which are played randomly. I know there are scripts for volume of each individual sounds, but that won't help here, I have many sounds that need to be controlled by volume buttons. I had 2 ideas: either tell me I can do them or tell me I'm stupid.

Give each sound the same instance name, and have a script increase the volume of that instance, therefore inceasing the volume of all the sounds -OR- Have the code that changes the volume of each sound, and have it do just that: increase the volume of each sound. In other words, have that script for each individual sound, over and over again for each sound (lots of scripting).

I have two swf's. One main movie and one sound movie. The sound movie exports the sounds,
providing linkage which I want to use in an actionscript in the main movie. How do I call upon the sounds from the second movie? The reason why I have two files is that Flash doesn't allow me to choose in which frame the sounds will be exported, it's the first frame or who-knows-when. Would it be a good solution to load the sound swf into the main movie, placing it during the preload of this, and export the sounds with linkage names from this and (later) call upon them from the main movie? Is it possible at all? If it is, how do I do it?

I am using the following code to goto a frame when two movie clips come into contact. I will post the .fla in a second. But, I have a trashcan (object), and a skateboard (container), which i want to decrease the score and show the frames in the framename sketchy.

My problem is that I have a container, which gets different movieclips loaded into it by linkage. I want to use the container as the skateboard, alowing whatever is currently in the container to be what is coming into contact with the trashcan.

I'm creating an isometric game in AS3, Flash CS4.I created a file named Units.as which contains the following:

The postoffice and cornershop movieclips have been set to the corresponding class names above.The file is in the same folder as the .fla and can be seen in the project window.When I compile, it doesn't include the Units.as file. Even if it just contains:

if i create a class from the project window and select the movieclip in the library, it does include that file.So I'm assuming the compiler only includes .as files with filenames corresponding to class names.

It works perfectly in Flash Player 9 but not in FP10. I am calling 5 buttons onto the stage via linkage. These buttons are a movieClip with two frames inside - with different grafics on each frame. I want to use an array to make button 2 and 4 show the second frame in the movieClip. How can I do this! I guess I have to use FP10 since this is a small part of an AIR application. Create a movieClip with to frames, linkagename: radioButton, and why it doesn't work in FP10...

Click on a thumbnail and the corresponding image is preloaded BEFORE scaling and moving smoothly from the thumbnail position to a target position. (the thumbnail is actually the container for the loaded image, and therefore also moves to the target) I have got everything to work, except that the thumbnail moves whilst the image is still loading. This problem defeats the purpose of the gallery, and I'm starting to get blurry vision now!

I hope I have made everything clear, but since this is quite difficult to explain, I have attached the fla and images. *You will need to simulate download in flash for the current preloader to work. P.s. much of the script was (heavily) adapted from an fla I found somewhere, in which the images are arranged into a circle.

I'm trying to create a linkage to swap movie clip dynamically. I already create a linkage and after my movie clip symbol actuall say Export: contact_idea. But when I try to attachMovie("contact_idea"). It does nothing. Is there anyway that I can test that the linkage is actuall linked?

I am trying to simplify things by using dynamic MovieClip names. I have three MovieClips on the stage.

1) mcPage1
2) mcPage2a
3) mcPage2b

But my code isn't working. I'm guessing the "this" part is what is messing it up. Thinking that the computer doesn't know which MC is "this". It traces fine outside the function, but inside the function it traces undefined.[code]

Assume I know practically nothing about AS3! I'm using Flash Pro CS5. I'm trying to reassociate a flash file I've been given with its external assets and classes. In the library I have a movieclip with linkage to a class called 'StaticMap' using the base class 'flash.display.MovieClip'. am I missing a custom class file called 'StaticMap.as' that was originally located in the same folder as the fla, or is this a generic class accessible to all movieClips from within Flash?

I modified an Adobe Flash CS5 sample to create a swf with a preloader. In my FLA I've two stopped frames:In the first frame I only put this code (and a textfield showing percentage):[code]When I test the Adobe sample (it has no main class on frame 2, only a large image) anything works fine, but when I compile the modified version I get strange errors. In the Main class constructor I reference three movieclips, eg. this way: myClip.alpha=0, but it seems now Flash can't see them anymore (they are null). Why?

how can I use the addChild to instantiate these movieclips, using these names, sequencially, using a FOR loop?

I'm trying to get a way, that I don't have the remake all movieclips, or else I'll be stuck on the desk for a week :P

Since the demensions of some of them, i.e. phones as opposed to tablets, have a much smaller screen, wanted to use different sets of mc's depending on screen size (device dimension wise, not resolution).So a smaller device would use the mc's with larger gfx so they would still be decipherable and the larger devices could use smaller gfx so to be abale to get a larger part on the screen at the same time- I could just scale the entire screen clip all the time, but this will slow it down too much i think- I could create multiple instances and use different names and then sort them out run time in AS, but this would also steal processor time. Im not really for that.

- I could publish multiple versions, depending on device its for. But this would require me to maintain multiple sources on upgrades. I can feel the hurt already.I was hoping it is possible somehow to export the movieclips as .swf's or something and then sorting out run time wich one to import/use/load.Then, hopefully i can refer to them in my code with the same name's but they will be different sizes depending on wich i had chosen to include/load.

Alright, so I'm trying out AS3.0, or learning to and I got some questions, which I think should be (and probably are) easy to do.Say I have an .as class file "Animal"and in the Library I have MCs - "Cat", "Dog"in AS2.0 - the MC in the library would have the class of "Animal" and I'd useattachMovie("Cat", ...) or attachMovie("Dog", ...) and it would eference the functions/script of the "Animal" .as Class.Now from what I understand, in AS3.0 - the MC in the library would have the class as "Cat" or "Dog" and I'd change the base class to "Animal" (and have my Animal.as 'class Animal extends MovieClip')Least that's how I think it works.Now let's say in my library I have "Cat1", "Cat2', "Cat3" and I wanted to attach these to the stage through a function

I am trying to use a for loop, to place 5 instances of the same movieclip on the stage. In the loop I used .name to give each movieclip a unique instance name. But when I try to reference one of those instance names in an event listener I get an error. Here is an example of what I am trying to do:

This code generates an error saying that the cStar2 property is undefined. In the example above, does the for loop create 5 copies of the movieclip starC_moov, and give them unique instance names cStar1, cStar2, cStar3, cStar4 and cStar5?
