I have a project that was dumped on my lap, and my knowledge of Actionscript is very limited.
The scenario is that the user is presented with a floormap of a building that should show a red dot denoting where each employee sits (based on X,Y coordinates on the floormap).
The employees' profiles (name, telephone, X/Y coordinates) are stored in a database.
One our our programmers managed to load the users into a Flash object array. Now, it's my turn to add some actionscript to place a red dot on the floormap for each and every user in that array based on their x/y coordinates.[code]...
I'm trying to create object and insert them in an array, for moving them across the screen. I'm trying to use the attachMovie for this task:
attachMovie("MyObject",arrayVal[counter],1);
the problem is that the second parameter must come in "" like
attachMovie("MyObject","arrayVal[counter]",1);
So, as you can see, i'm not able to tell which number comes on the "counter" variable
arrayVal[0]
arrayVal[1]
...
and i'm not able to use it latter:
arrayVal[0]._x++;
...
How is this usually done? (i'm a as3 developer, so i'm stuck here)
Which parameter should I put not to automatically resize an Image that is put on an ItemRenderer?
Ex (in which the image gets resized):

in datagrid I have an ItemRenderer (which extends UIComponent) which loads images based on a data value, eg:
_img.source = "assets/images/flags/" + value[dglistData.dataField] + ".gif";
When I run my application the images (flags) are appearing in the ItemRenderer. When I build and deploy the application into BlazeDS as an SWF file - the images do not appear. Instead there is the standard "missing icon" link that appears in Internet explorer.
As far as I can tell, my ANT build script includes the above directory "assets/images/flags/" and all the images into the SWF file.
how to explain this behavior but I'll try. I am loading images from an external url that requires basic auth so I am using URLLoader to load the image from a unique ID. The ID gets passed to the itemrenderer which then proceeds to load the image. But the images switch around on their own when I scroll. If I load more than 7 images or so it starts repeating images....

I have an array of movie clips (representing band members) which have various properties, among them them a property which tells where the band member went to after they left their current band. For those who formed a new group, I want to create an array. Within that array, I want to group all the ones that left for the same group into secondary arrays. So, if you had five band members and 2 of them left for group X and 3 left for group Y. What's the best way to do this? This is, roughly, my code:

Alternatively I suppose if I could do without a multidimensional array and just loop through all the members and say - for those members whose group is the same, perform this function, with the name of that same group passed as the parameter for the function. I guess the trouble I'm having is identifying who's the same.
Is there a way to convert frames to a video in flex? If I have a video, I want to brand it by adding adding a persistent logo over it. Is it possible?

A single instance of your Item Renderer class (ListIR) is created for each visible item of the list-based control.
As the user scrolls through the items of a data grid control, Item Renderer instances are recycled rather than creating new instances.
But i would like to create new instance ..while scrollling item in datagrid.

I have a chart and am trying to display the "volume" in a line chart as the primary series & the "temp" as a column chart as the secondary series...(the "compound" will be shown in the datatip):

I can get the "volume" series to display fine, but cannot get the "temp" series to display...how do I access them? Right now I have:

I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.

I get an array named item beneath the element children when there is more than one item sibling. If there's only one, the conversion can't distinguish it from a scalar.
What do I need to change to have Flex convert all item elements to an array with 0 or more elements?
What would I have to do to get an array member children, dropping the item wrappers altogether?
The XML is generated by Struts on the server side. I always have the option to change the structure of the document there, but right now I'm interested in what I can do with Flex.
Is there anyway to create a GIF animation from an array already loaded with bitmap images?I would like to simply create the animation in the order the images currently are in.
P.S. -- how would I display it? Just addChild() I'm assuming, correct?
I have problems defining indexed array with actionscript. The task is following. I have a board of point objects. I need to store them into one array, so I can access each point using simply it x,y coordinates. for example to get point one I want to be able use points[1][1], etc. I read the doc here [URL], and realized that I don't understand how to initialize array for my needs. (Especially when it can contain from 10 to 15 rows and columns, so it will be quite hard to use following notation: masterTaskList[0] = ["wash dishes", "take out trash"];, as suggested in docs.)
