View 2 RepliesThis is hard to explain, but basically here goes: have a "frame" movieclip that loads images. I call frame.loadImage(the URL) and everything works. So far so good.When I put "frame" inside of another clip, named "frameHolder", then call frameHolder.frame.loadImage, nothing happens.

I'm trying to do a very simple thing, take the grid tutorial and apply it as a mask to an image. Everything works ok, now I would like to call the function that makes the grid after the pic has loaded.
So I have on the root:
mc_picholder
mc_boxholder <---This mc contains the function that makes little boxes
I can assign the mc_boxholder as a mask to the mc_picholder and this works fine. Now say I have a function in mc_boxholder called makeboxes(), and I want to call it from the root once a pic has finished loading into mc_picholder.All the functions to make the boxes are inside the mc_boxholder. I've tried declaring makeboxes as global, and calling it from the root, doesn't work.I've tried tried writing from root: mx_boxholder.makeboxes(), doesn't work either.....

The mc is in the main timeline and in it I added a button with this.removeMovieClip(); and so far it works, but when I try to call a function from the main timeline it just doesn't seem to work.

View 3 RepliesOk, i bought a scroller that works well scrolling content. With elasticity and stuff.
My problem is trying to access buttons inside the scroller.
I have an instance of the scroller component on stage and named it Scroller. I set the content in its component inspector. It loads a movieclip from the Library called Panel. Inside the Panel i have 2 buttons. button1 and button2. If i publish everything works fine.
Now i am not very good at AS3. How do i access the buttons. i've tried this among other bits and pieces i found on the web.
Scroller.Panel.button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent .CLICK, somefunction);
Can't get it to work. I know the Panel movie out of the library that the Scroller component loads needs to be somehow listened for but i don't have a clue.

I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:

Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?

View 5 RepliesI have been working with actionscript 2 / xml for quite a while now and this is the first time I have come upon this one. I have one movieclip in the library that I attach using attachmovie for that generic "glassy" vista type look. Only thing is, when I resize it via actionscript, it resizes incorrectly. Flash ells me it's correct via trace, but it obviously isn't. If I delete the border line off of the movieclip, it resizes fine! I have the clip set to none for scale under the properties tab(with the line and fill selected). The line has a gradient but it does the same thing if solid. What I'm wondering is has anyone else run into this and have they found a workaround?

I have a function that calls another function once every 30 seconds. Each time it calls the function it updates the variables each time. My problem is that it only wants to call the function one time. All the variables are correct but it wont call it again.

My issue is that for my website I want there to be movies in between the interactive parts of it where the interfaces slide in and out. However, I can't stop a movie from playing over and over instead of playing once and going to the next frame.With 2.0 I haven't been able to find any research that helps me, probably because I don't know the correct keywords to search for.Right now I have my main time line set up with a loading bar on frames 1 & 2, that then jumps to frame 3 where I have embedded a movie (Instance named: mc_start) of the interface sliding in. Preferably after that I need it to jump to frame 4 where the actual interface is.
I can get the movie to end by going into the embedded movie's time line and simply have stop() ; at the final frame, but I can't get it to go to frame 4 on the main time line. If I having something like gotoAndPlay(4) ; on the final frame of the embedded movie's time line, it simply goes to frame 4 of the embedded time line and not frame 4 of the main time line. If there was a command to make it jump back to the main time line instead of the embedded time line, that would work perfectly.Coding on Frame 3 of the main time line to jump to Frame 4 would work if I knew the correct language to detect when the movie has ended (Movie is 191 frames long), so that afterwards it would immediately jump to Frame 4, but I haven't been able to find any resources that will teach me how to do it. Right now having gotoAndPlay(4) ; on Frame 3 of the main time line obviously makes it immediately skip the movie on Frame 3 and jump to Frame 4.
