Does MXML get compiled down to as3 and then converted to flash bytecode? Also, is there a significant performance penalty to compiling mxml vs compiling as3?
View 3 RepliesI am working on a custom Flex 4 component which is an aggregation of two existing flex components. I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. For instance I might want to adjust the font color or style for the label and text input. toy component which aggregates both a label and a text input:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"

I am trying to override a Button class, i have a few properties which i wish directly initialise with the mxml description of the component, like :[code]which function is triggered ( in order to override it ) when all properties with mxml description is fully initialised with their values ?
View 1 RepliesWhat I'd like to do: create an MXML component with some children, then extend it via MXML to create a new component with more children, without losing the original set.In other words
create a component bc.mxml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:BorderContainer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
[code].....
I'm trying to do this using only mxml, no <script> tags, although I don't necessarily need a solution that's only mxml. It was more of an educational exercise to see if I could do it all in mxml. I have a custom component that has a slider and textinput and their value/text properties are bound together. I'm surfacing a few properties of the slider in my component so that it can sort of be treated like a slider.

i have defined some functions in a component mxml file let us say addbutton() now i want to call this function in main mxml file.

I have 3 mxml components. In Component 1, I let the users fill in some data. In Component 3 I want to use the data, but I can't find a way to make it work.
View 1 Repliessuppose i have 3 buttons(for example say, productin, marketing, sales ) on my main.mxml..once i click on one button it should take me to abc.mxml page with production data, once again if i click on second button it should take me to the same abc.mxml but with marketing data. same as for 3rd button also, how can i achieve this ?
View 2 RepliesI've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
This is a project I'm working on for a simple demo tutorial application in Flex. I am using mxml pages. You can see to the left that I will have my main application and then other mxml files (In the Examples Package) as the examples that will be loaded into the main application mxml. How can I dynamically pull the value from the object in the list to load the child mxml file into the container that I have further down in the application?

I would like to include an MXML file in my MXML file in the same way you can include an external file in AS3 using the include directive. Using the include directive brings the code from the external file into the original file at compile time placing it in the same scope. For example,
Application.mxml:
<Application>
<source="external.mxml"/>

I'm now using the cairngorm flex framework,and it supports mxml. Is this supported natively by flash or only supported by frameworks?
View 1 RepliesI've got years of experience with AS3 but am very new to MXML. I've downloaded Flash Builder 4.5 in the hope of building some mobile applications and am stumbling over the integration of Actionscript with MXML. I need to dynamically build an elaborate game interface by drawing shapes. For some reason, Flash Builder tells me I have an error in the Actionscript here:

Just wanted to add this here in case you are migrating your project from Flash Builder 4 Beta to Flash Builder 4 release. I used a lot of mx:Buttons with the baseColor property, which now seems to be called chromeColor.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to move a flex mxml project into flash?
i have the project complete in mxml with actionscript but due to the fact that flex is limited in its visual animations ( no timeline! ) i would prefer to switch to using flash.
I have a text box that receives data from XML. Has activated the service. Everything works fine if i use "taurus" instead myVar in {}. Now I want to change the field and depending on the button is pressed to receive different data. But nothing comes out.

this piece of code is being placed inside a swf which is then being placed inside a mxml swfloader. The ProductDesigner is the name of the application and the selectRed is a HSlider mxml component. The error that I receive is that "Access of undefined propertyProductDesigner" in the Flash CS5 when testing the swf. Yes I am able to pick up the intellisense to know that it knows that there is a ProductDesigner in the whatever it's called.
private function ChangeColor(event:MouseEvent):void

var red:uint = ProductDesigner.mainTabs.tabContentColor.selectRed.value;

I am taking over a Flex / MXML project for work. The last programmer lost the original source code so I ran it through a decompiler. In the main MXML file there are 3 lines that return errors. IMPORT COM.TURBO.*I've never heard of this and I can't seem to find anything on it. I assume its some kind of plug-in. Does anyone know what it is?
View 1 RepliesI have mxml component and want to go through all its children, that I've created in it and not to go deeper. For example I have this view:

xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"

I am currently working on the largest Flex / Flash Builder 4 application I have ever built. I am acustomed to keeping all of my MXML programming in one file. What are some best practice procedures for keeping large MXML files readable?
View 4 RepliesI have a basic mxml app which looks like this

this swf is loaded into another swf using Loader and added with addChild(loader).i then need to call the init function from the parent swf. how can i do this? just calling
loader.content.init();
fails.another question is, what is the exact classname of this mxml file?
If I have a SoundEffect in the Declarations of a MXML component and play it in Actionscript, no sound is played:
<mx:SoundEffect id="mySound" source="@Embed(source='assets/sounds/my_sound.mp3')" />
Actionscript Code:
mySound.play();
Is that supposed to happen and if so, is there a way to play a mx:SoundEffect in Actionscript?
I currently have a basic application where we have multiple buttons, which have functions activated by "click" event listeners on those buttons. The issue is that each button does more or less the same function; just the data that is loaded for each button is different. How do I make it so I'm able to recycle the same function? In Javascript or AS3 something along these lines would be done...
<s:Button id="btn_1" x="378" y="601" label="Button 1" click="photoSwap(event,"image1.jpg")"/>
<s:Button id="btn_2" x="350" y="601" label="Button 2"
[Code].....
But that's obviously not how it works. I've tried trouble shooting the issue but haven't been able to find anything. It works when I have each button having its own function, but that seems really silly and shouldn't need to be done.
A Flex components values are initlized by init methord. In an application flow, How to refresh a mxml component data value ; as init is callled at the start up it self only.
eg. of mxml componet may be as simple as button label or text as complex as repeater whose data provider is a web service ( means a fresh quesy should be made to pull the data and refresh the dataprovider of repeater )

I have Flex application requiring to filter users depending on there database groups.Depending on which group they are, the're is a config.xml file that is use to populate the swf.Here is how I figure how to do this : 1. The client comes to a .aspx page with a form requiring a username and a password. 2. On the server side I confirm the user credential . Once the username/password is valid I redirect to the mxml file with the config.xml file in the html headers (post).My problem comes when I need to get the post data from the http request. Let's say I have this code :
<mx:Application initialize="init()">
<mx:Script>

I'm looking to create a flashBuilder document which uses seperate MXML files as "views" which are controlled by states - I believe it's a design pattern of sorts but I'm relatively new to FlashBuilder. I was wondering if anyone knew what design pattern it was and if I can be pointed in the direction of some good references! FYI I'm looking into using FlashBuilder to design Android apps
