Flash :: Having The Scrollbar Handle Sized In Relation To The Content Height
Jan 22, 2011
I'm having a bit of trouble with this logic. My setup is typical, with a content MC and a handle MC the runs along a track with specified bounds. All I want to do is have the handle height adjust based on content height but in relation to the track height?

I made a scrollbar class that works pretty well. I'm trying to come up with an idea for how to set to the height of the scrollbar vs the height of the scrolling content. This is a standard thing that happen in the OS. Seems there should be a minimum number and the maximum value should be reached as the size of the content approaches the size of the visible area.

I'm creating a scrollbar gallery from a tutorial on this site. Though I've completed the tutorial, and customised the gallery to my own needs, however I'm trying to make a very small change to it - and no matter what I do, keep running into problems. I'm trying to replace the rectangular handle with my own customised handle - a (20 x 20) 'circular' png image that I've imported into Flash, made a graphic and stored in the library (though I understand it can be imported using actionscript, like the other images in the gallery).

I have an ActionScript project set up using the Flash Builder IDE. Using the Flex 4 compiler to compile it. At the top of my application class, I have:
[SWF(width="100%", height="100%")]
public class MediaPlayer extends MovieClip {
This is not acceptable to the compiler to do a release (it throws errors saying it can't parse the width/height values). Pretty annoying. I've tried to do things the "right" way, but none of the following work:
[Code]...
So the width and height attributes are being explicitly set to numbers here. I don't know much about the 'scale' attribute; maybe it is coming in to play here? And, to be clear: it will work as expected if I set the [SWF] meta tag to have width "100%" and height "100%"... so it seems like it actually is preferring the compiled arguments over the browser environment. Perhaps there are other settings I am missing?

I have some scrolling content (info). I've also made my own scroll bar.I want the scrollBar dragger to be positioned in relation to the info._y as the user scrolls info.I have created two vars: one that worsk out where info._y is as a percentage and the other that works out where the scroll._y dragger should be as a percentage...
Actionscript Code:
var scrollBarPercent = Math.round(scrollBar.dragger._y / [code]........
also onMouseWheel working too.I need a small bit of code that takes the % of info._y and moves the scrollBar dragger to the same % but in relation to the Stage.height...so if projectGalleryPercent = 50%, make dragger._y 50% of Stage.height using scrollBarPercent.

I have an image gallery with a bunch of thumbnails displayed on the page in a grid-like layout. Currently, the swf sits in a HTML page set at 100% width and height. There's a resize listener that adjusts the layout so that the thumbnails all fit on the page
at once. So, as the browser window gets narrower, the columns decrease and rows increase as the thumbnails get pushed down the page.
The problem is, once the thumbnails get pushed far down far enough to go past the bottom of the browser, the overflow is hidden and the thumbs "below the fold" are not accessible. Is there a way to pass the dynamic height of the SWF, so that the browser detects whether or not it should display the side scroll bar?

I've got a horizontal scrollbar working and I'd like the 'handle' of the scroller to animate, so that when the user rolls over the handle, it becomes slightly transparent.The transparency is done between 2 keyframes on the timeline, and this works fine when the handle is stationary and you roll on and off, but once it's dragged and the user lets go of the handle, it doesn't revert back to it's original state and stays slightlytransparent.It seems the drag code for the scrollbar is conflicting with the button code below, which is placed on the first frame of the handle instance:
Code:
this.onEnterFrame = function(){
if(rewind == true){

How to set a Spark List height to the height of its content?Tried this:
var lastRow:IVisualElement =
myList.dataGroup.getElementAt(myList.dataGroup.numElements - 1);
myList.height = lastRow.y + lastRow.height;
It works in case of a single item, but lastRow is null in case of more items.

I am going to embed a Flex app on an html page. The html page is already going to have a scroll bar to scroll up and down. The contents of the flex app are very dynamic, and I don't want to have an extra scroll bar when there is already one. So is there a way to make the height of the swf match the height of the contents of the swf?

I am having a little difficulty properly sizing a Scroller component in Adobe Flex/Flash 4. As soon as I add an element to the 'widgetsGroup' VGroup, the scroller's height property resizes to match that of its parent border container, even though the content height of the vGroup may be significantly less than this value. This is a problem because the scroller then 'covers' other elements in the border container. I guess what I am looking for is the scroller height to match the widgetGroup content height until this height exceeds the bordercontainer height, at which point the scroll bar would become visible.

I am loading xml and using Colin Moock's scrollbar as he desrcibes it in Essential Actionscript 3.0. It all worked fine until I tried to put a link to a jpg inside the xml.Where other html tags give no problem, the img seems to mess with the textfield height. I gave the textfield a fixed height but when I try to scroll the field with the image, and trace the textfield height, it increases more and more when I scroll down, messing up the scrollbar.the img tag looks like this (and it loads fine into the textfield):
Code:
<IMG ALIGN= "left" SRC='pics/portret.jpg' WIDTH="200" HEIGHT="207" HSPACE='0' VSPACE='10' />
The slightly adapted scrollbar class looks like this (I gave the scrolltrack a fixed height and tried to give t.height a fixed height too within this class but tracing t.height keeps showing that it is increasing while scrolling down):
Code:
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.text.*;[code]..............
So I think that the code or flash doesn't handle the img very well,

I would like to modify the scrollbar (vertical) of the tilelist component so that there is some space between the top of the scrollbar and the top of the tilelist. Currently, the scrollbar extends the the top and bottom edges of the tilelist. I would like to add a graphic above the scrollbar but below the top of the tilelist. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I'm working 100% in AS 3 within Flex Builder.
The attached image (picture 3) shows what I would like it to look like (with the yellow lines). Picture 4 shows what it looks like currently.

Do you know any collapsible flex container that can handle dynamic content that works when pre-collapsed? I tried the CollapsiblePanel component by Arc90 for Flex, but it did not work when pre-collapsed.If I have a VBox inside the panel, and I set the "collapsed" property of the CollapsiblePanel to true, the size of the CollapsiblePanel cannot be restored. It seems like this is what is happening:
The CollapsiblePanel's collapsed property is pre-set to true in the MXML markup.
The VBox auto-adjusts its height to 0 since the CollapsiblePanel is collapsed.
When the CollapsiblePanel's collapsed property changes to false (i.e., it is expanded by the user), the VBox does not expand itself because its parent's content area is 0. Therefore the CollapsiblePanel remains at the same height because its content's height is 0.
Note: This occurs only when the CollapsiblePanel is pre-collapsed, as seen in the markup below.I've already tried this (didn't work):
<containers:CollapsiblePanel minimize="pnl_minimize(event)"
restore="pnl_restore(event)" height="100%" width="100%" collapsed="true">
<mx:VBox width="100%" height="100%" verticalGap="0">[code]....

I am trying to increase the height of container with increase in the number of contents inside the container. Like in my case i m using tileList inside tabNavigator , when I put contents inside the tileList, the height of tileList does not increase beyond vertical height of the viewport. It puts scrollbar on the container. I want to increase the height of an flex container with increase in the contents and introduce scrollbar on the browser with increase in contents in the flex container.

I am using a scrollbar as demonstrated in OO scrollbar part 1 and have it working great, except that when you scroll the text, it seem to add a bunch of space at the end of the text field and then does not scroll back up to the top of the text field, but rather ends up in the middle.
Seems like it is somehow measuring the height of the text field at the wrong time? I would guess that it has the right height dimensions (due to the extra space at the bottom) but that it somehow is getting the wrong y coordinate. [code]...

Im currently working on a full dynamic flash website and I want it to look and behave like a good old HTML/CSS page. Meaning that i want a regular browser scrollBar to appear/disappear when the movie height is changed.
So my new killer app simply demands a width of 1000 pixels, but can be any height, and I want people to see the vertical scrollBar on their browser.
I changed the "100%" for the width to a fixed number like "1000", and keep the height parameters at 100%. I thought that will do the job, But NOT Iļæ½ve googled and found some interesting stuff, but nothing really I can use (javascript solutions).

I have a scrollbar in which a very long list which I can't make any shorter / smaller.roblem is, the script for the scroller demands that I place the text at 0,0 on the Flash axis, and the lenght of the text makes it run way down to the lower edge of the Flash workingfield.Somehow this makes the text run 'beyond reach' of the scrollbar; the scroller only shows about 2/3 of the list, and does not show the text beyond that point.How can I extent the reach of the scrollbar??? Can I shift the 0,0 point of the Flash axis (maybe place it higher, so the text falls into the more 'reasonable' regions of the workingfield of Flash?)

I've used Bill T's scrollbar code and loaded text from an XML file. When I drag, the text content is not completely shown.
I'm suspecting it has to do with the value "1.3" in this particular line:
Code:
scrollAmount=(this._height-(mask_mc._height)/1.3)/(mask_mc._height-scrollbar_mc.dragger_mc._height);
how I could use this code, to show up complete text content dynamically?
Here's the complete AS:
Code:
//set a variable
targY=0;
//set the drag action of the dragger

I'm working on a project that uses a loader to load up a swf, then display the loader in an area using a mask and a scrollbar to scroll through the content. The content in this project will change regularly, including the dimensions of the swf file (vertical dimension only, I'm not worried about horizontal scrollbars with this question).The problem I'm running into is I can't figure out a proper formula to get the scrollbar to position the content at it's bottom when the scrollbar is at the bottom What I have now is close, but not exact. If you scoll to the bottom, the bottom of the content would scroll up too high, leaving an empty 'blank' space where the content should be. I have an if statement checking for this currently, but this creates a 'dead zone' at the bottom of the scroll bar where the content is already at the bottom, and the scroll bar can continue to scroll down a bit.oes anyone know what I'm doing wrong here in the math to get a good scrolling going, regardless of the size of the content loaded by the loader?Here is what I have so far:
package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.net.URLRequest; import flash.events.*; import flash.display.Loader; import fl.controls.UIScrollBar; import fl.controls.ScrollBar; import

I'm wanting to make a vertical scrollbox (say, 150 px wide by 500 px high with a scrollbar) and where the content is defined by an XML file. The catch... I'd like each name in the list to become a button (or otherwise clickable) that opens a swf (also specified in the XML file). I have succeeded in making a static list where each "name button" was created manually... but I'm realizing my list is going to be hundreds of names and I'm thinking there must be a way to achieve this with XML. Here is the current version:

I have been reading through the Source/Experiments threads and trying to implement suggestions in the Content Scrollbar (Revised) [URL].. thread. I'm using Flash MX 2004, Actionscript 2.0 and throughout the course of this great thread the suggestions seem to shift and become geared for Flash 8. There are a few hints that MichaelxxOA kindly left for MX 2004 people loading content dynamically but I haven't been able to get to work. It's been a long work in progress but I feel like I am getting closer. At the moment I have been able to get the xml content to load into flash but I had to create a kind of dummy cell in the contentMain that is approximately the length of the combined images in the xml document. Is there a way to change the code so that it can read and load the content of the xml document so that when it varies flash loads into contentMain what ever combined height the xml includes? Here is the zip including .xml, .fla, .swf, .as and image with progress so far.

I am new to xml content in flash. I have been through the kirupa tut for loading xml content and have been successful in implementing it, but I now want to implement it into a scrollbar so I can use css and img tags. I can get it to work using the UI scroll component, but I want to use a custom scroll bar. I get the XML to load fine but I have no clue where to stick in the firstChild.childNodes[0] so I can call to certain attributes within the XML document. Below is the AS for the custom scroll bar.
Code:
stop();
holder_mc.setMask(mask_mc);
var LV:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
LV.onData = function(info:String):Void {
holder_mc._txt.text = info;

I've successfully implemented the scrollbar from this great tutorial for some banners, but when I get to my 300x250 banner, the content gets cut off and disappears at a certain point while scrolling. This is the tutorial: [URL]. I altered the pieces for two different sizes without needing to alter any code, but this size is suddenly giving me problems. My FLA is attached.
