I am trying to swap out one image for another in a Flash animation. On a mouse over, the want the new image (appb_mc) to appear OVER the existing image (appa_mc).I used the following code, but the new image keeps flashing. I am assuming it is because the new image is appearing OVER the existing image. If I have the new image appear other than over the existing image, it works fine. What can I do to make it work properly? These images need to be within the Flash file and not in an array.Actionscript I am using:
appb_mc.visible = false;
function showGraphic1(event:MouseEvent):void

I have the following two action methods:

The application is used through Facebook. I click the button and the flash contains the notice while create is being executed, but after that it's empty again. It doesn't survive a redirect.
How can we include (nicely) a swf file in a Rails application?By the way, I tried the swf_fu plugin but it didn't work. When I call my swf file located in the swfs directory, it tells me that the method is not found:
View 1 RepliesI am trying to embed a flash file onto the homepage of my Ruby application. The homepage is in /app/view/home, and the flash file is in the projects /public/flash/myflash.swf.When I load the home page, I don't see anything, although the text is bumped below a square of the proper size I defined the file as.The code I am using to try and load the file is
<div id="flashContent">
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="346" height="383" id="Blox" align="middle">
<param name="movie" value="/flash/Blox.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />

I am thinking that either I am calling the file wrong by using value=/flash/Blox.swf, or that I am storing my flash file in the wrong place period. How can I get my flash file to load?
Having problems embedding my .swf file in rails 3.1. In past versions of rails I'd use swfobject and simply do:
<div id="swfbox">you don't have flash</div>
<script type ="text/javascript">
swfobject.embedSWF("swf/AudioRecorder.swf", "swfbox", "400", "400", "10.0.0", "");

I am pretty new to flash, so I apologize if I have posted in the wrong area or this is a redundant post, but I have plenty of experience with Photoshop, 3d rendering programs, and some experience with Dreamweaver.
I would like to create an "about us" portion of a website similar to: [URL]. It looks as though it is a series of disjointed swap images, but there must be some Flash involved, and if you click on the image of each person it also acts as a hyperlink. So, my question, could anyone point me in the correct direction of how I would create this for my website and to what degree of difficulty is involved.
I have a project in which I have an opening scene of a main image and 8 thumbnail buttons. This opening scene is pretty basic, as the thumbnails would link to a new scene or frame label (however I build it). This 2nd scene or instance in the timeline is where I would display another large image, and 6 new thumnail images that, upon rollover, would swap the large main image with the large version of the active thumbnail.
Basically I have a main 'menu' of category thumbnails that link to an instance in the timeline that displays the initial large image for that category, and allows the user to mouseover the other thumbnails to see the large images, and then click to go to a specific URL for more information. The trouble I have with my rusty, limited AS knowledge is how to effeciently write the AS so that the image swap works. I quickly ran into a wall trying to acomplish this using a very OLD method that would require a LOT of jumping around the timeline.
*I can't post the file due to the company policy, so I'll do my best to explain. 3 movie clips: slide 1, 2, and 3. Each loads an external image.
Layers (how I have them set up):
slide 1
slide 2
slide 3
The slides have a 3d feel, as if they are in the distance. When the user clicks one, the slide(mc) motion-tweens towards the screen, while the other 2 stay back. Obviously, if slide 2 comes towards the screen then slide 1 will be over top of it DUE TO layer structure (above). And of course, 1 & 2 will be over slide 3. To get around this I made a "current" layer over top of all the slide layers. So if I click on slide 2/3 then the tween is up on the "current" layer instead of the "slide 2/3" layer so that it's the highest.

Can anyone suggest me the way to accomplish that?

I have a rails app that records a video from the webcam. After the video file is saved on the flex server, I need to create a record on the database calling the create action on my rails app from Flex. How can I achieve this? I need a url with params to be called. I think the authenticity_token is necessary to post data.
View 1 RepliesI have a VERY big animation, with a huge amount of keyframes, and I like to swap a symbol in this animation with another one. If I just use the swap button on the first frame, Flash only swaps the symbol for the first tween, whereas I have hundreds of tweens in my file... So how do I do this for every keyframe in every tween ?
I am having an issue with an animation constructed on a Mac using CS4 appearing differently when viewed online using a PC. When viewed on a PC the letter 'a' within the logo drops below the border of the small red square. On a Mac it appears as designed, centered within the red square. Website [URL]. It seems to be a PC hardware difference as the animation appears incorrectly using either IE and Safari using a PC while on a mac on all available browsers, Safari, Firefox,Opera, Flock the animation displays correctly.
View 2 RepliesI want to implement an application in Flex/Rails in Background as I know these two languages but I'm fairly beginner with Flex and Intermediate-to-expert with Rails. My application will display a calendar like object by which there are say 5-day week or 7-day week or a month (30-days) and in each day there will be some data such as appointments or such. I want users to be able to drag left or right to get more days after or before the displayed week for example and I want the boxes to be filled with proper appointments data.
What is the best way to implmenet this in your opinion, mainly from Flex point of view? Any architectural tips from the Rails side?

View 1 RepliesI'm looking for a way to upload images that were created in my flex app to rails. I've tried to use paperclip, but it don't seem to work. I've got this tutorial here: [URL] The problem is, that they are using a FileReference to browse for files on the clients computer. They call the .upload(...) function and send the data to the upload controller. But I'm using a URLLoader to upload a image, that is modified in my Flex-App. First, here is the code from the tutorial:

I am a rails noob. I am having a problem conceptualizing how assets work in an authenticated system. All of the tutorials I've seen so far talk about putting your swfs in the public folder and embedding them in your view. However, the swf I'm using is a flex gui that should only be used by users logged-in through restful-authentication. I imagine that putting the gui into the public folder would be defeating the whole purpose of having an authentication system. So what is everybody doing to restrict access to this kind static content?
View 1 RepliesI am in the process of building a rails/flex application which requires audio to be recorded and then stored in our amazon s3 account. I have found no alternative to using some form of RTMP server for recording audio through flash, but our hosting environment will not allow us to install anything like FMS, Red5, etc.
Is there any existing Ruby/Rails RTMP solution that will allow audio recording? If not, is it possible for Rails to at least intercept the RTMP stream and then I can hope to reference red5's source or something for parsing the data (long shot, I know)?The other alternative I can think of is hosting a red5 server on another host and communicating with our rails app once the saving/uploading is done, which is not preferred.
We have a Rails 3 app using session-based authentication (modified acts_as_authenticated), and a Flex app that needs to be embedded in an html.erb template. The Flex app needs to access routes that have a before_filter set to check if the user is logged in. When interacting with the HTML site, this causes the user to be redirected to a login page, then sets a Rails session property (tied to a cookie) to record that the user is logged in when making future requests.The Flex app needs to access XML that's generated by Rails (behind the before_filter) and I don't want to force the user to log in twice -- what should I be passing as a flash parameter to the Flex app so that it can present as "already logged in" if that session exists (ie, the user has logged in via the HTML interface)?

View 6 RepliesThis is to be exported into a movie, so not an Actionscript question. I'm making a parody of a fighter-game scenario. One character looks like Subzero and the other like Scorpion. They're the same models but one should be colored differently. They're comprised of symbols such as arms and legs to make a larger overall character animation. There are several animations of them, for kicks, punches, bobbing, etc. Now, I know that if I went in and edited the colors, that all instances would change accordingly. Duplicating the symbol doesn't work because they share the same inner symbols. Is there a method for "deep" duplication? A tint doesn't work because essentially I only want to change the color of some of the components.
