Flex :: Capturing Combined Keyboard Inputs?

Nov 23, 2011

I am looking for a solution in Flex where I can capture a combination of keyboard inputs such as: [CTRL] + A + B

That is, pressing the CTRL key and the user presses two keys (instead of the usual one).

I can capture the event when somebody keys: [CTRL] + A with the following code:

if (event.ctrlKey && event.keyCode == 65)

How would I capture an additional key so that the event is captured when somebody presses CTRL, A and B?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Keyboard Event Capturing In Linux?

Aug 19, 2009

I came across this annoying bug in Linux.

consider this code as timeline code:

ActionScript Code:
import flash.utils.getTimer;
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;

[Code]...

(haven't tested in Mac, I deleted my mac vm as it wasn't accurate)

What is going on is that just after a KEY_DOWN event, a KEY_UP event fires, even though you didn't release the key.

Now as for where this bug is located, I'm not sure. It could be with how flash integrates into the already present keyboard interface of the OS, or it could be the OS's keyboard interface itself.

But see either way, it's something I can't control. I can't change flash player, nor can I change the keyboard interface of the OS (well I can, but what about other users with Linux?).

So what I need is a way around this. To side step this key up event when the key up didn't actually occur. Because this is causing some majour issues with my KeyboardController class.

[edit]
furthermore it makes me wonder what might be going on in Solaris.

I think I'll reinstate my vm's of Solaris and Mac OSX and see.

Flash - Flex 3: Preventing Keyboard Events From Reaching A Sprite?

Feb 9, 2012

I'm working on a Flex 3 app, implemented in Actionscript 3 and MXML, that includes an embedded video player, which is essentially a black box--I load it as a SWF from another site on demand, and I don't have access to its source code. It does, however, inherit from Sprite.The problem is that, when focus is on the Flash app, the video player is somehow receiving and processing keyboard events, even when the player itself isn't in focus.So when users are typing text elsewhere in the GUI, if they hit the space bar, the video pauses.

I've tried intercepting key events in the Sprite's parent, and setting tabEnabled = false, tabChildren = false, and buttonMode = false on the Sprite, but nothing seems to work. It's as if the Sprite is getting keystrokes through an alternate Event path.how I can prevent the player from receiving keyboard events or input events entirely? It's fine with me if no input events reach the player, since I've implemented my own,separate video controls.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Capturing Data From User Input?

Jan 23, 2011

I'm sure it's easy to do, but I just cannot figure it out. I've created a timer but want to let the user set default values to start at so they don't have to modify the start time each time the program starts.I was able to create a text box but it is un-editable in the actual program. It displays '00' nicely but it's useless. I haven't even gotten to the point where the data is pulled and stored.

ActionScript Code:
var timerHrs1:TextField = new TextField();
timerHrs1.type = TextFieldType.INPUT;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Capturing User Input Restricted To Just Numbers?

Nov 14, 2008

I've written a function that restricts user input to just numbers (0-9,.) and stores the input in the associative array, userInput[]. It works but seems inefficient looping through the entire input text string to scrub out invalid characters. Anyone have suggestions for a more efficient approach? Note that a working solution must correctly process mouse or cursor key movements/edits within the input box.

Also, you can see I'm using the KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP event to trigger the processing. The docs seem to indicate TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT is really the proper event for this purpose. I started with TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT but found the event is triggered before the last key pressed is actually added to the instance. The result is that the function was always one characterbehind. Is there an easy way to get the current text in the input box, including the last key pressed, when processing TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT?

I'm starting work on a midi piano game in flash. I have my midi keyboard hooked in through the USB. Now I've been told that there is some way to get flash to read any kind of input but I am not sure on how. Basically all that will happen is that u hit a key on the piano and a box shows up of random color. Longer u hold a key bigger it gets. Each key will have different box assigned to it. I think I could handle everything but I'm stuck on the first step and that is getting flash to read the Piano key presses.

Flex :: Sprite Not Receiving Keyboard Events?

Jan 14, 2011

I have a Sprite which is a child of a Flex object, and acts as the main "game window". So during game-play it should get keyboard input but at other times not. When I add a keyboard listener to it, it never fires.

Do I need to stop parent objects 'eating' the events somehow, or something similar? I get the same thing with mouse-wheel events, but mouse-click events are fine. Sprite doesn't seem to have the concept of focus unless I missed it.

More generally in this kind of approach, are there any suggestions on the best way? For instance some keys might still be needed to be intercepted before getting to the game-window, like ESC or F1 or something... the aim is the game-window isn't aware of other UI.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Keyboard Input - If Press "v", The Flash Player Doesn't React?

Jan 17, 2009

I've been trying to figure out how to use Keyboard events, so I tried out an example I saw online, but I ran into a problem. It's supposed to tell me whenever a key is pressed, and it works for keys such as ctrl and shift, but not for letter keys. For example,when testing in Flash ("test movie"), if I press "v", the Flash player doesn't react, but the Flash editor switches to the selection tool (keyboard shortcut "v"). How do I fix this? Here's the code I used:

function reportKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void
{
trace("Key Pressed") ;[code].........

Button Selection Via Keyboard Input?

Mar 28, 2009

I am new to Flash and this forum, so please excuse what will hopefully be a simple question.I am using Flash to build an interactive video kiosk for a museum that will be playing on a MacMini. it possible to create buttons or "scripts" that can be controlled with keystrokes? For example when you press "K" an embedded video will start playing. Or if you press "D", you could go back to the main menu? I am trying to make it so you can interact with flash via push-buttons, as opposed to moving a cursor over virtual buttons. Is this possible? would normally do this in DVD Studio Pro, but the sheer number of videos will not work in a single DVD project, so Flash is the only option I can think of. As a DVD it works great because I can use the arrow keys to navigate, and the enter key to choose a selection.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stand Alone App From CS5 And Keyboard Input?

Feb 18, 2011

I have in a previous project published a game as a standalone app and run it full screen. It would allow users to put their info in for high scores.

Now i am working on another game that will be published as a standalone app. It will need to be full screen and have an entry form at the end for high scores. It does not seem to allow the keyboard to enter text in an input box. Is this true?

Note, this is not an swf played through a browser, but an actual .exe generated from Flash CS5. If this is true, is there a workaround. I need if full screen with keyboard input.
