Flash :: Flex Loading Local File?
Dec 6, 2009
i'm pretty new to flex 3 but it's really cool so far. now in the center of the screen when i try to load an swf file using the SWFLoader object i get the following error:
Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2140: Security sandbox violation: file:///C:/Users/ufk/Documents/Flex%20Builder%203/GamePage/bin-debug/GamePage.swf cannot load file:///C:/Users/ufk/Documents/Flex%20Builder%203/GamePage/bin-debug/crazy_counting.swf. I am using FDT for Flex development and when I compile, and it tries to access a flv file, I get the error "cannot access local file". This is obviously a security sandbox thing.Now I tried adding crossdomain.xml to the root and it still makes the same error. I know somehow I need to add to my project use-network=false, but i cant for the life of me work out where the flex compiler additional arguments area is. I know in eclipse how to do it, but with the slightly modified FDT, i havent got a clue

So I've tried to build a small utility to view the contents of a JSON file in an easy-to-understand manner (for non-tech people).I have Googled far and wide, high and low, but every example that shows how to consume a JSON file in Flash Builder uses the HTTP service, pointing to a file on the web.Here I am, sitting in front of my MacBook, wondering why I can't make this work. In the documentation I've found (sort of relating to this issue), they always show Windows examples, and they seem to work fine:That doesn't work. I've tried some "resolve to path" syntax, but the HTTP service does not seem to allow for anything but file paths in quotes.

I'm having a problem loading a local xml file into my swf. My ultimate goal is to parse the xml file into a list of guests attending a party. Here is the code I have:
Code:
var loader:URLLoader;
function loadXML():void
{
[Code]....
As you can see, the first trace statement outputs the xml file with the tags and all. The second trace statement outputs nothing. I did try uploading the xml file to a server, and then using [URL] as the URL for the URLRequest, but that didn't work either.

In my Flash application, the SWF file is located on a serverand is downloaded to clients in a controlled network. I want to beable to load XML data located on the client machines into the SWFfile. It looks like security settings is not allowing thi tohappen, as the local files are treated as a separate sandbox.If I were to use System.security.allowDomain, how do Ipecify local files? It's not a domain or URL. Or is there another way to do this? I'm wading through thesecurity information, but I haven't found the solution yet.

While trying to develop some Android app I ran into the following problem:I load an swf file to a WebView, that makes js calls. I want to catch those js calls, so I useWebViews.addJavascriptInterface() to do so.Everything worked just fine when i loaded the swf file from a remote server, but when I load the same swf file form the Android file system, the javascript methods seem not to run (at least I cannot see them).

I need to be able to save and load images into an SQLite database using Flex 4.5 for a mobile application. The use case is this:
Inside the view there is a spark Image object with a URL as a source
When user clicks button, the Image is saved to an SQLite db inside a BLOB field.
In a separate Image, the source is set to the ByteArray stored in the db.
The biggest question so far is this: where do I get the ByteArray for a loaded Image? I've tried debugging and inspecting Image, BitmapImage, and BitMapData but there's no sign of the byte array.... perhaps it's inside the ContentLoader? But that's null unless I enable caching.
I've done some research and there are no complete examples for how to handle this. I've written a simple View that anyone can copy and paste into a new project. It will compile without errors and can be used for testing. I will update this code as I get the answers I need so that anyone can have a fully working example of this workflow.The only caveat: I used a synchronous connection to the DB to avoid complicating the code with event handlers, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.I will only mark this question as answered once it is fully functioning both ways.
UPDATE SEPT. 09 2011: The code below is now fully functioning in both directions (save and load). Here are some of the things I've learned: It turns out that the ByteArray of a spark Image can be found inside the LoaderInfo of the image itself. Like this:
image.loaderInfo.bytes
However, trying to set this ByteArray as the source of another image ( image2.source = image1.loaderInfo.bytes) results in this security error: Error #3226: Cannot import a SWF file when LoaderContext.allowCodeImport is false.Which is too bad because it would save so much time and processing power.the workaround is to encode the ByteArray using either a JPEGEncoder or a PNGEncoder. I used the JPEGEncoder which produces much smaller files. Here's how:
var encoder:JPEGEncoder = new JPEGEncoder(75);
var imageByteArray:ByteArray = encoder.encode(imageToSave.bitmapData);
Now the problem is saving these bytes to the DB. Saving them as they are now will not work once we read them out, I'm not sure why. So the solution is to encode them into a base64 string like this:
var baseEncoder:Base64Encoder = new Base64Encoder();
baseEncoder.encodeBytes(imageByteArray);
var encodedBytes:String = baseEncoder.toString();
So now just save that string into the BLOB field and later read it out. However, you have to decode it from a base64 string to a ByteArray like this:
var encodedBytes:String = result.data[0].imagedata;
var baseDecoder:Base64Decoder = new Base64Decoder();
baseDecoder.decode(encodedBytes);
var byteArray:ByteArray = baseDecoder.toByteArray();
Now assign the bytearray as the source of your image and you're done. Simple right?if you find any optimizations or alternative ways to do this.I will respond and keep this code updated if need be.

In a very simple first AIR application (I'm using Flash Builder 4.5), I am trying to accomplish the following on my MacBook:
Read a local file (JSON format) into the AIR app. Parse through the file. Display some selected contents in a grid.
That's it.
I've found an example that does some simple JSON parsing in Flex, but the problem is that it loads the JSON source from a remote web site.
So do I need to load any file-specific libraries to make this work in AIR? Or can I simply refer to the file by using the Mac file-path? I just want the local file to be the JSON source. The parsing is already taken care of.

Yes, you can access Local File System in Flex and that too with a standard SWF without resorting to Adobe Air.Check out the link below for full details and the SWF.

We have a Web login feature. We will offer Free calls to a large campaign.
Scenarios:
Because of free calls, we will offer a unique file to be downloaded and stored After a week or month we will call them and offer them our desktop application to scan and see how trusted, the user is If we dont find the same file again, we will never start business and more our own statistics Based on that report we want to do some follow ups campaign We can do this with cookies but we want user experience and trust analysis
Example: if you play a music in youtube.com, without notice your file is actually in /tmp/Flash....flv with lot of data on it.
Question: How can i do the similar using Flex/Flash from the web browser ?

I'm writing a small application for myself and instead of using a database I'd like to just use Excel to store the small amount of data I have on my local file system. I want to be able to load that data without having to use the typical FileReference browse() method as it would just be annoying to do every time I use the application.
The code below seems to find the file fine as the file.exists method below and most of the other attributes seem to be correct but the file.data is always null.I'm guessing this is a security issue and that's why I'm running into this problem but I thought I'd ask and see if there is in fact a way around this problem.
var file:File = new File(fullPath + "\" + currentFolder + ".txt");
if(file.exists) {
var byteArray:ByteArray = file.data;
}

I have made a application that plays videos that are stored in a assets folder of the air application but when ever I run it on an hp slate the videos are really choppy. Is there a way to preload the video or does it have to do with the processing power? the videos are 1.72mb or smaller. They are flv format and they auto play when that application is started. I am using flash builder.

I'm having some trouble getting around a security restriction of flex. Saving a file is apparently an action that can only be invoked upon user interaction. The problem is that after my user clicks on the save button, I need to perform a database query to get the data for the file I want to save.
Because Flex works asynchronous, I have to make the database call and then catch the ResultEvent in a different function. In that function, I no longer have the user's mouseclick event. How am I then supposed to save this file?

I have an HTML file which contains a Flash .FLV player; which then loads a given FLV video and plays it. The idea is all these files are stored locally on the PC as part of an application install, we use HTML/flash for the help/manual. On my PC it works fine but on a user's PC nothing is displayed. However if I host the exact same file-structure online and give them the URL, it works perfectly.
I am guessing this is a security issue of some sort but have no idea how to address it. The browser being used is actually a XULRunner app, i.e it's the FireFox 3 engine but not actually FF. Since my PC isa developer PC it's entirely possible I've done something in the past on another project that makes it work, rather than my PC being special in some way. For reference the HTML has the following in it - this is generated from some 3rd-party app:
