I have made a application that plays videos that are stored in a assets folder of the air application but when ever I run it on an hp slate the videos are really choppy. Is there a way to preload the video or does it have to do with the processing power? the videos are 1.72mb or smaller. They are flv format and they auto play when that application is started. I am using flash builder.

View 2 RepliesI'd like to distribute FLV files from my website, however I want a level of DRM control over the files. So far, I've been able to modify the FLV files to contain a 60 character ID at the very front of the file, but I can't figure out how to get AIR to extract the ID and therefore play the file. All I can figure out is using NetStream, but that won't let me skip 60 bytes, and so it thinks the FLV is invalid.

View 1 RepliesI'm writing a small application for myself and instead of using a database I'd like to just use Excel to store the small amount of data I have on my local file system. I want to be able to load that data without having to use the typical FileReference browse() method as it would just be annoying to do every time I use the application.
The code below seems to find the file fine as the file.exists method below and most of the other attributes seem to be correct but the file.data is always null.I'm guessing this is a security issue and that's why I'm running into this problem but I thought I'd ask and see if there is in fact a way around this problem.

I used a fantastic XML video tutorial from this site -http:[url]...in a school project here - http:[url].....When I test the site on my local machine everything works fine,but, when I upload it to a web server , clicking on the thumbnails to change the video does not work - except for the first page of videos.

I'd like to create a file browser to allow users to load images from the local system into the application. I followed this example [URL] When I click on the Load Image button in the simulator however, the file browser pops up but tells me that "no file was found with the specified filter", even though I don't specify any filter or even if I specify a . filter.

Is there a smoothing function for video like there is for jpegs? Or any suggestions for another way to approach this?

The user interface has three preview windows along with a list of slide and video content that gives the user the ability to select which slide(s) and or video(s) appear in the preview window(s). The content is simultaneously shown full screen on three projectors via multiple monitor outputs (2 nVidia SLI gfx cards, 4 outputs, 1 preview monitor, 3 for projectors).Our issue is centered around the playback performance of one 20MB flv (1366x768) after having played several 2MB flv files (same resolutions and bit rates).
The odd thing is that the 20MB file can be played seamlessly 1x, then the small flvs can be played without issue; but if we try to play the 20MB flv again, it begins to stutter in the last half of playback.We are looking at getting an official opinion letting us know if video playback performance can be increased and is so a quote letting us know what costs are involved to do so. We can provide the source code and all related files.The hardware this Application is running on is a PC running XP SP3 with a XEON 5130, 2 Ghz processor, 2 GB DDR2 ram, a Seagate ST3160815AS 160 GB SATA Hard Drive and 2 NVIDIA 9800GTX Video cards
I currently have a network camera that streams video as a .swf (and also as a motion JPEG as well...) and I want to be able to embed the stream inside of either a Flash or Air project that I'm creating myself. The only examples i've been able to find though, require the .swf to be saved as a resource of the project; clearly, this is undesirable for a live stream.
Another option is to utilize the motion JPEG. I have some generated code (shown below), but unfortunately only the first image is displayed when viewed via adobe air (if I were to view it in a HTML browser, the image would automatically update, effectively showing the stream:

I trying to play a flv file in a flex mobile (flex 4.6) The files will all be locally stored and on the device. Would it be better to use the video even if it is not supported or can i use a movieClip? I am going to try and fade out a picture and then play the video with out any user controls and then fade back to the picture. The this will all be on a tablet. I am using Flash Builder 4.6.

In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?

What I want is to if user re-sizes the application then that container should also be re-sized according to scale. i.e If user maximizes or minimizes the window then that border container should also be maximized or minimized respectively.
View 3 RepliesI have a native (Obj-C, standard Xcode project) application and I'd like to integrate a partners iOS application (or specifically, it's functionality) into it as just another view in my application. The problem is that their application is a Flex/Air app. I really don't understand the Adobe compilation process on how it gets from a bunch of flex code down to an IPA. I don't see intermediate projects, shared objects, etc on the disk to produce that IPA. It looks like it doesn't rely on the Apple tool chain... as I understand it, you can produce the IPA on Windows as well. Is there any way to build that Flex app in such a way that I can import it into Xcode so I can link against it and use it as a library from within my application? While I specifically used iOS as an example since that is the most important platform, we'll want to apply this solution to our respective Android and Blackberry 6 apps as well.

I downloaded an flv file using RealPlayer 11 (latest version), now when I play it back within my custom made video player, it plays fine untill it reaches the end. I have programmed the video player to go back to the beginning onComplete.
I have tried other flv files and they work just fine - could the flv file be corrupted.I need a resolve on this issue today, as I have a client waiting to approve of the custom video player. Also, he wants me to use the same player on some of his client sites.

I have a quite different problem with resizing. I have a Flexbook component which uses the middle part of screen (center) with a html header menu and footer. The problem: The scaling works perfectly when we run in the local machine ( Flexbuilder). But when we deploy it to the server its like scaling never existed.. The requirement: when user maximizes the window or minimizes it, the Flexbook should be resized to fit the screen.

(Although I know flex is meant for web application and air application is best suited for desktop clients, but due to some build issues we can't go for air applications). Now according to our use case we required to read file from local file system which is not allowed in flex application due to sandbox policy. To override it we had planned to use it in local mode (i.e. running from local file system instead of deploying in web container). So after running application in local mode it bypasses sandbox policy and allows to read local file. Eventually we requires remote services call (either using web services or blaze ds) also in our application. To avoid sandbox restriction for network access in local mode we are planning to explicitly grant network access permission to our flex application.

The files typically come at at somewhere between 5 and 15mb and are in AVI (mpeg4) format.I'm using a Max/MSP patch (program) to do the recording and encoding, and controlling it remotely from Flash.Once Max has recorded the video file it passes the path to the finished file back to Flash.Flash is interacting with a web server via SWX/PHP for a number of other reasons to do with the project. I'd hoped to upload the video files using the following method:Load the video file into Flash as a ByteArray via URLLoader.Serialise the ByteArray as a String using Base64 encoding and pass that to a SWX/PHP method on the server which would in turn save it to a file.The problem is that serialising a large file such as an AVI is causing the Flash player to crash, so I'm going to have to look at a different method of doing the upload.Get a video file from the local machine onto a web server simple as that.

View 3 RepliesI'm new to the streaming video world but I do have FMS 3.5 up and running and have encoded some wmv and mp4 videos to flv using adobe encoder CS4. I followed the tutorials and have created the swf files in flash CS4 and the videos are streaming as expected.
The primary issue I am having is the videos tend to be choppy at times. They pause, run slowly, audio pops and just overall; glitchy. Typically at the beginning but some times throughout. The test files at the FMS admin page stream fine without issue from the same server. We have tested the site/streams from multiple providers all at cable modem speed or above.
