Flash :: Get The Target/origin Of Errors And Error Events When Using UncaughtErrorEvent
Dec 20, 2011
Is it possible to get the target/origin of errors and error events when using UncaughtErrorEvent.UNCAUGHT_ERROR ?
I am logging runtime errors of users using a complex flash app and would like to know where things are failing. The target of the UncaughtErrorEvent is tracing as LoaderInfo (which is, I assume, because it is also kicking out the UncaughtErrorEvent) and the target of the ErrorEvent is null.
I am trying to use the new unCaughtErrorEvent, as explained here: [URL] When testing the event I run across two problems:
1 - when testing the movie from the flash IDE, the uncaught error is indeed caught and handled (as in the example) BUT the original
error still gets thrown! For example, when loading an XML file that does not exist: - first the uncaughterror event gets called. (good!) - then I get an unhandled event error (ioErrorEvent for not finding the xml file). Isn't the whole point of catching uncaught errors that you can catch ALL these errors? This way it seems rather useless to me.
2 - when testing the uncaughterror handler from a html page, the debugger gives an entirely new error: VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.events::UncaughtErrorEvent could not be found. So for now, I'm truly baffled as to what UncaughtErrorEvent is supposed to do and why it doesn't work
I have included the Uncaughterrorevent handler for the LoaderInfo. Which worked fine in my actionscript project.
That was until I attempted to use a browser with a FP version of 10,0. This then fails to load the SWF unless i take out all references to UncaughtErrorevent.
I did try only adding the error handler if flash player 10,1 > is installed. But still doesn't work. Even having a reference to UncaughtErrorEvent as parameter in a function causes the SWF not to load.

Is it possible to define the target of a MouseOver event being sent to a method if it is being triggered by code and not an actual mouse event? By typecasting a string as a mouse event the receiving function is sent an acceptable value required by it to run. It will then go about executing it's tasks but if it has references to the target property an error is thrown because only the event type was sent to the function and none of it's properties.
ActionScript Code: private function myFunction(event:MouseEvent):void { trace(event.target.name); } myFunction(new MouseEvent("mouseOver"));
Resulting error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. Is there a way to send the target information along with the event when triggering a method in this way?
I have numerous objects, many of them are stored within other objects (and overlap in physical space). As I zoom into an object, it begins to fade away. At the moment it begins to fade, I load in the child object (or create a child object if one doesn't exist). I want to turn off the parent object's ability to respond to most events. The exception is the scroll wheel, which needs to be sent to both objects simultaneously so that the parent can continue to fade out as I zoom farther in. Try as I might, I can't find a way to tell Flex "hey, for right now dispatch these types of events ONLY to this object." I either end up with event dispatch stack overflows from trying to manually redirect the events, or I get events that don't activate at the correct time or on the correct object. What can I do?
i don't know why this isn't working.i got a button. and when it's pressed, i need it to go and play a frame in a movie clip. i'll test it and then when i click on it, i get this:
Target not found: Target="whoweare" Base="_level0.instance20.instance48.instance49"
this is the code that i am using:
on (press) { tellTarget ("whoweare") { gotoAndPlay (51); } }
I have created an invisible button myButton_btn inside a moviclip with instance name supermarket_mc. The supermarket_mc is based on a class Supermarket, which has the following code and works fine.
public class Supermarket extends MovieClip { public function Supermarket()[code]....
Now, if I have a button on Stage they work fine when I add a listener to them. However, when I add a listener to myButton_btn ie:
myButton_btn does not react to click events and I get an additional error Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.I suspect that the MouseEvent.CLICK in the class definition overrides the MouseEvent.CLICK on the nested button.
i am trying to do a simple blackboard on mouse down, start drawing on mouse move, if drawing, draw line on mouse up, stop drawing i set the listeners on a simple clip with a rectangle. if i dont fill the rectangle, the mouse events wont fall into the rectangle, but if i fill the rectangle, it will paint behind the rectangle, so anyway i wont see any succesfull results. what i did was create another sprite and paint within it; something like
Flash cs3 on Vista computer - Using Actionscript 3.0. When clicking the check syntax in Actions panel. I am getting a message that "This scripts contains errors. The errors encountered are listed in the Compiler Errors panel." But there's nothing in the panel. The script was working fine before I added a mask but stopped working after I added it.. Not sure even where to look as even when I publish the movie I'm not getting any error message to point me in the right direction. Anybody know if there is some way to have Flash tell me where the error is? The weird thing is if I create a new flash document and just put stop(); in the actionpanel, I'm getting the same message.

I keep getting output errors in my fla file, at first it was: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.and now it is: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@3916d151 to flash.events.MouseEvent.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChildAt() at Project3_fla::MainTimeline/ongoPage2()[Project3_fla.MainTimeline::fra me32:7]
Here is the code for the frame above:
import flash.events.MouseEvent; next1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ongoPage2); function ongoPage2(Event:MouseEvent):void {[code].....
In trying to remove default text from an Input field upon clicking inside of the field, this type error appears...TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::FocusEvent@2a1aa89 to flash.events.MouseEvent.
Code: var itNewMessage:TextField = new TextField(); itNewMessage.type = TextFieldType.INPUT itNewMessage.wordWrap = false;[code].....
I have narrowed this error down to the following code, but i cant see the problem...
Code: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property ENTER_FRAME not found on flash.events.Event and there is no default value. at sample_fla::MainTimeline/frameEventHandler()
ActionScript Code: addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,frameEventHandler) function frameEventHandler(Event){ var collisions:Array = collisionList.checkCollisions();
As soon as I start to drag the scrollbar, I get an error #1069 telling me that MOUSE_UP not found on flash.events.MouseEvent and there is no default value. I was watching a tutorial from Todd Perkins, and the scrollbar is built after his model. I really hope for an answer, it's killing me
Hows it going, learning actionscript in college, ive done the following code from notes, but when i do a test run i get the following error messages.[code]The above is not code i will be implementing, but more a learning tool to understand the syntax, so the actual visible outcome i'm not concerned with. Just incase you're looking at that part I'm using Flash CS5, running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
I made a custom event, but was getting this runtime error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@1498f491 to com.esidegallery.net.BatchLoaderEvent. and eventually found what I thought was the the answer here - [URL] I made the necessary changes, but I'm still getting the same error! It's just a batch loader that dispatches a custom event for every item that loads, with its LoaderInfo object attached. Here's the event code:
I think I did this before but can't find the code. Flash as many other graphical frameworks use the top-left corner as the coordinate origin (0,0) because it's how the underlying memory model is by convention. But it would be really simpler for my calculations if the origin was in the center of the stage, because all the game revolves around the center and uses a lot of trigonometry, angles, etc. Is there some built-in method like Stage:: setOrigin( uint, uint ); or something like that?
Do you know anything similar to UncaughtErrorEvent but for flex 3.4 and flash player 9.0 ? I've seen that this UncaughtErrorEvent should work for flex 4 and flash 10.1, but not less.Is there anything for the versions mentioned to globally catch the exceptions in flex?
Can one upload files to a domain other than the domain a script originates from? For example, suppose you're hosting files on [URL], and you want to upload files to [URL], would the following script violate the same origin policy (using uploadify):
How do I move the origin point, or zero point, of a MovieClip to the same origin point of the stage without scripting in Adobe Flash CS3?
Example: While I'm trying to move objects within a MovieClip, the origin point is at (stage) 200,-300. This means that when I put objects in a MovieClip, the objects' X,Y coordinates, as displayed in properties, are off by that much.
This point is way off the edge of the stage and I'd like to move it back to the stage's origin point so that my X,Y coordinates are meaningful.
