Flash :: Manually Dispatch A MouseEvent?

Nov 10, 2011

I have a menu that is built using its own AS3 class, when a link in this menu is clicked it fires a function according to some variables passed in from an external XML file.

The menu is made up of four subsections and I want the user to be able to jump to the parent of that subsection from a button that is completely separate from that menu.

What I'd theoretically like to do is trick the parent button into thinking it's been clicked when the user clicks one the buttons in this other menu.

Is this even possible? I'm tearing my hair out trying to think of a work-around, but I have to admit that it comes to passing variables, never mind passing them between classes!

Flex :: Manually Dispatch A Collection Change Event?

Mar 14, 2011

I have a standard combobox that dispatches a collection event when the dataprovider finishes initializing:

my_cb.addEventListener( CollectionEvent.COLLECTION_CHANGE, getMyStuff );

Then I have a custom component that also has a dataProvider. How do I get it to dispatch a collection change event when its dataprovider finishes loading?From what I've read, I can't do it. Will dispatching a propertychangeevent work?

UPDATE:I have a custom component that I call 'SortingComboBox' but it is not a ComboBox at all; it extends Button and I set is dataProvider property to my arraycollection, model.product (which is an arraycollection). how I use the dataProvider in that component:

code

[Bindable]
private var _dataProvider : Object;
public function get dataProvider() : Object
{[code]..........

In the createChildren() method of this component, I use this:

BindingUtils.bindProperty(dropDown, "dataProvider", this, "dataProvider");

The dropDown is a custom VBox that I use to display labels.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dispatch Mouse Event Manually Will Not Yield Any Bubbling?

Aug 12, 2010

I want to dispatch a MouseEvent.CLICK to a DisplayObject manually and make it bubble through all of it's children. The event is handled in the object that I dispatch it to, but does not seem to bubble (even though I specify that it should). Is it not possible to do this?

Code:

_targetObject.dispatchEvent(new MouseEvent(MouseEvent.CLICK, true));

Code:

private function handleClick(event:MouseEvent):void
{

This method is executed, but no children will receive this event.

Actionscript 3 :: Dispatch MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP When Un-clicking Only Some Objects, Not All Of Them?

Sep 24, 2011

What if I want to dispatch MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP when un-clicking only some objects, not all of them? I mean, when I add eventListener that listens for MOUSE_UP, it's dispatched (thought with different targets) every time I un-click anywhere, if you understand what I mean. How can I "fix" it?

Flash :: AS3 MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE Event Stops Responding After MouseEvent.CLICK Call?

Nov 6, 2010

I have several stage event handlers to enable mouseovers over several dynamically generated moviecilps on the stage that then change their alpha to indicate the mouse is over that particular mc... fairly trivial (mcOver handler). Additionally, I also want to know what MC is clicked, so I update a public variable (public var activemc:Number) with the ID of the dynamic movieclip when the mouse is over it (using a hitTest to check, which is why the EventListener is added to stage and not to the MC), which is checked in the mcClicked handler:This is in the constructor:

//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startDrawing);
//stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDrawing);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);[code]....

However, the mouseover behaviour (alpha 0 when over, alpha 1 when out) stops working as soon as I click on any movieclip on the stage, and the mcClicked ID checking (below) stops working completely. I don't know if this is to do with focus:

private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID
}

I then tried adding the event handler for the stage mouse_move again and this gets the mouseover working again but only for 1 more click, after which it stops again:

private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);

Actionscript 3 :: Cancelling MouseEvent.CLICK After MouseEvent.MOUSE-DOWN

Aug 11, 2011

I have a MOUSE_DOWN handler that creates a CLICK event listener on a child object. Naturally, as soon as you release the mouse button, if you happen to be over the child object, the CLICK event fires.I was disappointed to discover that event.stopImmediatePropagation doesn't interrupt the CLICK event from registering the MOUSE_DOWN as part of its detection cycle. It makes sense that it doesn't but still... disappointing.A MouseEvent.CLICK consists of detecting a MOUSE_DOWN on the object and then if it's followed by a MOUSE_UP without leaving the object, he event fires. I had hoped that by cancelling the MOUSE_DOWN event, it would clear that out of the CLICK buffer, but no such potatoes, alas.This could all be handled with a flag and a couple more MOUSE_UP and MOUSE_DOWN handlers, but dang, smacks of effort

Manually Create Each SWF File By Hand In Flash

Aug 12, 2009

I've often seen on various websites headings that were created from Flash-based text. A good example of what I'm referring to is on vancouver2010.com , most notably on pages other than the homepage. I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to do this automatically with a text generator perhaps, or if I need to manually create each SWF file by hand in Flash if I wanted to do this. I've also seen headers created that appear to have come from a generator of sorts that are just images.

C# :: Manually Creating A Flash AxHost.OcxState?

Jun 12, 2011

I am trying to use the AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash object in a console application in C#. To do that, you have to set the obj.OcxState to something. I looked at how the Forms designer does that, and it does it this way:his.flash.OcxState = ((System.Windows.Forms.AxHost.State)(resources.GetObject("flash.OcxState")));I looked in resources and there is nothing there.My question is, how can I create an AxHost.State manually so I can set the OcxState of my flash object to it?I see that the constructor of a State takes a Stream, int, bool, and a string. But I don't know what to put in the Stream (or the int, bool, or string) to create it.

Flash 10 :: Manually Setting Rotation On Stage Objects?

Mar 18, 2012

Hi everyone. This should be a simple question. Using flash professional CS5

I'm manually setting up stuff on the stage (authortime). And i've placed an object at a specific rotation. I now want to place another object, with the exact same rotation.

The problem is, i cannot find any way to read the object's rotation, or to specifically set it (ie: by typing in a value, rather than by manipulating editor handles)

I'm looking in the properties window and there's readouts/settings for position, size, scale, a ton of 3D properties, color effect properties, display properties, and filters. But there's no field for rotation. why the hell not! Isn't that a ridiculously simple and stupid omission?

so far the best method i can find is using free transform, and adjusting it manually til it "looks right", which is a very un-exact way of doing things.

Flash :: AS3 - Manually Created MovieClips And 'Convert Into Compiled Clip'

Aug 21, 2010

I want to use compiled clips to speed up compilation. But I've found following problem: I've got Foo class, which extends MovieClip and is set as 'Class' to one of library's symbol (this symbol is also called Foo). This symbol (Foo) has a MovieClip child, whose instance name is FOO_CHILD. I'm referencing this child inside Foo class constructor like this:

public function Foo(){
childReferennce = this.getChildByName("FOO_CHILD");
}

Now, when I use 'Convert into compiled clip' option on Foo library symbol it complies fine. But when I try to use it on stage, then I've got runtime error (ReferenceError: Error #1056 which says that it is not able to create "FOO_CHILD" property on my Foo class).

Actionscript 3 :: Operating On Objects Using Flash That Were Created Manually By A Designer In The Timeline

Jul 25, 2011

I was trying to build an application where a designer has created content on the timeline as a sequence of key frames. Each key frame is completely different. When the application is started I choose one of the frames, move the play head to that frame and stop (using gotoAndStop). Next, by referring to symbols in the key frame by name, I use AS3 to allow drag and drop, and I also do some programmatic movement.

The problem is that when I move to a different key frame on the timeline using gotoAndStop, the symbols that were touched by AS3 in the previous frame, even if they are not referenced by the designer's key frame, show up on the stage. It is as though any DisplayObject that I touch with AS3 becomes divorced from the timeline.

how to programatically work with timeline (MovieClip) content that was manually created by a designer. This just seems like it should be a really common use case. It seems that about the only thing I can do safely with the timeline is to move the play head and respond to events (if I don't change the state of DisplayObjects in the timeline). Also, is there any good documentation on how objects get allocated and destroyed when the timeline plays?

Actionscript 3 :: Manually Supress Flash Builder Warning Message In Code?

I could eliminate this warning with a few more if/else statements, but the code runs fine and I can't see why I should add complexity if the warning is acceptable. Would like to hear anyone else's opinion though if you think differently.

Assuming the warning is fine to live with, how to suppress the warning manually in Flash Builder? That is, only the warning for this example; other warnings must still be displayed.

AS3 :: Flash - Dispatch Event From Class?

Nov 6, 2009

I have a class which makes a url request and stores data from that request. When the data is retrieved, parsed, and stored into an array, I'm sending a dispatch event which I listen for in my document class. In the event handler function in the document class, I'm accessing the array that was compiled from the class. The array inside the class has 15 values, however in my event handler function, I'm only retrieving one value from it, which is the last value in the array. I posted my code below. Is there a different way I'm supposed to use the dispatchEvent in order to retrieve all of the array values instead of one?

now whenever I like in the application I use the function dispatchEvent to create the event and I make sure that the bubbles parameter of the event is true. so in this case the event bubbles up in the stage until it reaches my event listener and I can handle the event properly. the problem resides when I have a static class and I want to dispatch the event from there. because it's a static class and not a display object that appears on my stage it has no where to bubble to and because of that I cannot fetch the custom even in my main flex application.
