Actionscript 3 :: Operating On Objects Using Flash That Were Created Manually By A Designer In The Timeline

I was trying to build an application where a designer has created content on the timeline as a sequence of key frames. Each key frame is completely different. When the application is started I choose one of the frames, move the play head to that frame and stop (using gotoAndStop). Next, by referring to symbols in the key frame by name, I use AS3 to allow drag and drop, and I also do some programmatic movement.

The problem is that when I move to a different key frame on the timeline using gotoAndStop, the symbols that were touched by AS3 in the previous frame, even if they are not referenced by the designer's key frame, show up on the stage. It is as though any DisplayObject that I touch with AS3 becomes divorced from the timeline.

how to programatically work with timeline (MovieClip) content that was manually created by a designer. This just seems like it should be a really common use case. It seems that about the only thing I can do safely with the timeline is to move the play head and respond to events (if I don't change the state of DisplayObjects in the timeline). Also, is there any good documentation on how objects get allocated and destroyed when the timeline plays?

I have manually created a empty mc on the maintimeline named 'loadme'. I have my buttons in a movieclip that is on stage and within that mc i have the follwing code to one of the buttons:

I want to use compiled clips to speed up compilation. But I've found following problem: I've got Foo class, which extends MovieClip and is set as 'Class' to one of library's symbol (this symbol is also called Foo). This symbol (Foo) has a MovieClip child, whose instance name is FOO_CHILD. I'm referencing this child inside Foo class constructor like this:

public function Foo(){
childReferennce = this.getChildByName("FOO_CHILD");
}

Now, when I use 'Convert into compiled clip' option on Foo library symbol it complies fine. But when I try to use it on stage, then I've got runtime error (ReferenceError: Error #1056 which says that it is not able to create "FOO_CHILD" property on my Foo class).

Flash 10 :: Manually Setting Rotation On Stage Objects?

Hi everyone. This should be a simple question. Using flash professional CS5

I'm manually setting up stuff on the stage (authortime). And i've placed an object at a specific rotation. I now want to place another object, with the exact same rotation.

The problem is, i cannot find any way to read the object's rotation, or to specifically set it (ie: by typing in a value, rather than by manipulating editor handles)

I'm looking in the properties window and there's readouts/settings for position, size, scale, a ton of 3D properties, color effect properties, display properties, and filters. But there's no field for rotation. why the hell not! Isn't that a ridiculously simple and stupid omission?

so far the best method i can find is using free transform, and adjusting it manually til it "looks right", which is a very un-exact way of doing things.

I've been trying to achieve the same anti-aliasing (for readability) effect with as3 as if the textField was created manually, but I just keep running into a problem. When I try to add AA(txtfield.sharpness and thickness) to text I can't get any result apart from the text appearing in the same old for animation formation. The funny thing is this only happens when the font size is lower than 20px. I've uploaded an example aswell as a source file (manually created textfield on the left, textfield created with as3 on the right): [URL]. Is this somekind of font issue with Helvetica Neue, weird flash issue or is it me?

Say I draw a square on the stage, with a fill of blue and a stroke of black. My width and height are both the same. Now, in my Actionscript, I want to change that blue fill to something else.... on some off the wall condition of course.

Better yet, imagine I draw this extremly elaborate polygon out. How could I change it's fill, dynamically, in Actionscript (AS2 preferably, but I'm just lookin' for logic here)

I'm creating mc's during runtime like this:

So, if pictures is 5, then we end up with 5 boxes, box1_mc, box2_mc, box3_mc and so on. But I can't work out an easy way to refer to them later on. For example, say someone presses a button and I want to move all of them - how can I set their _x value in a loop? For example, if I wanted to move all of them 100 pixels, then this wouldn't work:

How do you use the operating system's tooltip utility in Flash with Actionscript 3? An analogous invokation of the OS tooltip is in HTML's anchor tag:

I don't want to draw my own custom tooltip because (A) it will look inconsistent across operating systems, (B) long tooltips wouldn't be able to float out of the SWF, and (C) it takes time to program (whether to align left or right depending on how close you are to a boundary).

I am looking to have a program developed sush as the virtual designer type program.Where as I can basically upload a photo of an interior or exterior of a home and then choose different materials for the walls or siding,etc.The thing is I am not sure if flash is the program that would handle this sort of thing or if I should be looking somewhere else.There is an example available on my website NJ remodeling contractor.You will see a link to the designer app I am talking about at the top under the latest news.The only problem with this application is that it was suppose to allow me to use my own images and allow my remodeling customers to go on and make changes to their photo.This option is still unavailable so I was looking into just having the application built

If objects are created dynamically in AS3, using code like this:

then later, i want to changet the text of one of the TextFields, how can I do that? The only instance listed in the variables is a single instance of "txtFld" and it is the last one that is created. How can I access the others?

i created a "for" function who īll display an X number of buttons with addChild, and give a name for each using button.name = "name" + variable but later if I want to listen for the buttons using their name donīt work, already know that there is getChildByName so i tried but give me the same error who tells that there no object with that name.My question is, how i can listen for the objects created if i already have a name for each one of them? here is the code im doing.

I have an issue in flex which is causing a bit of a headache!

I am adding objects to an ArrayCollection but in doing so, another ArrayCollection is also picking up these changes even though there is no binding occurring.

I can see from the debug that the two ACs have the same address but for the life of me can't figure out why.

I have two Array Collections:

model.index.rows //The main array collection
model.index.holdRows //The array collection that imitates the above

This phantom data binding occurs only for the first iteration in the loop and for all others it will just write it the once.

The reason this is proving troublesome is that it creates duplicate entries in my datagrid.

I have a scroll pane with textboxes and buttons that are dynamically created in a function. The textboxes are a user list that can get very long.

I am having problems where once I get out of this frame I want everything to be removed. I have tried removing the scroll pane but all the dynamically created objects remain. Is there some command when you enter a new frame to clear all objects or something along that line?

I've placed this code on the root time line and it works great, however i need to print multiple MovieClips and I can't do that unless I place all of the MovieClips into one MovieClip and that's where this code stops  working. I am a homebuilder and I would like to create an exterior visualization tool to help my clients choose thier exterior siding, roofing & brick colors. My on-staff architect can create photo-realistic renderings of our different models. The question is how would I go about substituting materials for different parts of the home. Would I start with a base model with no textures applied and then have each of the textures or colors applied? Would this be acheived using masks?

I am trying to add action script 2.0 to a slider that i created using http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/slider.htm that slides a movie clip that is a timeline from left to right. In the timeline are (i)More... buttons that will reveal more information. I just need to know how to integrate the timeline into the code using as2 to make it slide when the slider is dragged..

This is the action script that I have on the slider movie clip as stated in the above tutorial. But this is ALL the action script I have on EVERYTHING..... I know I need more to make it pan the timeline but I dont know how to do it.

I really could just use a good tutorial that shows me how to link the image that im sliding to the slider bar. When the slider is moved to the right... the image flows left.... toward the end of the timeline. When the slider is all the way right. The end of the timeline is shown. The timeline is bigger than the stage so the slider is on a line with years on it.
