ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash 8 Referring To Code Created Objects
Oct 26, 2009
I'm creating mc's during runtime like this:
for (var i:Number = 1; i <= pictures; i++) {
this.attachMovie("box_mc", "box" + i+ "_mc", this.getNextHighestDepth())
}
So, if pictures is 5, then we end up with 5 boxes, box1_mc, box2_mc, box3_mc and so on. But I can't work out an easy way to refer to them later on. For example, say someone presses a button and I want to move all of them - how can I set their _x value in a loop? For example, if I wanted to move all of them 100 pixels, then this wouldn't work:
for (var i:Number = 1; i <= pictures; i++) {
"box"+i+"_mc"._x = "box"+i+"_mc"._x - 100;
}
I'm creating a DDR style game. The 'moving graphics' are being randomly and dynamically created with the default instance name (instance28, instance 30...) I want to be able to refer to these different elements according to another movie clip I press (in this case, they look like piano keys).
So, if a 'C' moving graphic is created, I want the C movie_clip with a listener attached to check the 'C' moving graphic.
I have a simple question regarding the objects that are on stage. If you make a symbol in the Flash editor, export it for actionscript and put it on the stage, how can you refer to it in an external .as file which contains the document class? I tried using getChildAt() but that returns a displayobject, and I want to modify properties of that instance of the class of that symbol.
I need this because I am trying to make a scrollpane that adapts it's size to the screen resolution, and it's source is a MovieClip that isn't on stage but in the library. I also want the source to adapt it's width and height to the screen resolution. Is this possible? For this to work I need to refer to that source MovieClip in my as3 file, and I can't figure out how to do that...(in this situation it isn't even on stage but I guess I could make it invisible and put it on the stage if nessecary)
I've been heavily mired in 3D recently, and decided to pay a visit back to good ole Flash.
My problem is this. I'm extending the MovieClipLoader class to create a Preloader Class (yes I'm sure it's been done fifty billion times but). I'm trying to refer to a symbol in a common library, the preloader symbol itself.
baseClip is a MovieClip object which takes a MovieClip passed to the constructor of the class in the FLA. (say a container movieclip which has a target clip preloaded into it) The class does load the target clip into the baseClip, but doesn't show the preloader, which makes me think I'm not referring to it properly.
Using AS3, I was wondering how to control one object, a ball, while another ball bounces around. I'm modifying code from "Foundation ActionScript 3.0 Animation" by Keith Peters.
I'm pretty new so I'm probably making some obvious mistakes here. First of all I thought I could refer to the balls as ball[0] and ball[1] since they are in an array called ball. Is this correct?
Got to the point where the hole in my AS3 knowledge is getting large!Realising I have confusion about the relationship of:Body of code on first frame of AS3 file.(Which I have so far used to create instances of library objects using addchild and make calls to class code).Is this code called the document code? What do people call it?Numerous classes linked together by extending each other etc.Library objects (usually graphical objects)Should it be done differently? have the following problems due to lack of understanding:Addchild complicated from a class but straight forward in main body code.Cant call functions on the main body code from classes, because class code does not know the main body code exists?
class Stand { public static const STAND_LIST:Array = new Array(); STAND_LIST[0] = new Array(); STAND_LIST[1] = new Array();
[code]...
is the STAND_LIST[0] keeps created every new instance of Stand created? or is it created just once?if it's created every new instance of Stand created, how do i make it run just once?(like initializing const)
Is there a way to view the AS 3 code that Flash CS3 is creating? To be a little bit clearer about what I'm asking let me make the parallel with Dreamweaver. If you need to create an HTML table in Dreamweaver you can click the table icon at the top, configure your table, and then you can see in the code window the <table width= height=..> <tr> etc. that has been created dynamically by the software.I know its not a straight forward feature built into Flash or I would have found it but I was wondering if there is some surreptitious way of extracting the code.
I'm working through a tutorial to create an mp3 player in actionscript. When I delete my first 4 lines of code, the .swf still works great! I thought you needed to declare what classes you're importing for every object you create later on.
iam in a situation to convert the dynamically created objects( just movieclips which contains boxes,texts etc) in flash using AS3 to .DWG format. i tried converting the flash objects in to SVG format , then tried to open it in Auto Cad , but the texts are not editable in auto Cad;
I have been searching for a resolution to this for weeks but to no avail. I have made a game already where I had a character names mainChar placed on the screen using the Flash IDE. With this method, i was able to access it's various nested movieclips such as mainChar.walk and mainChar.jump. The problem is that I am making a new game where the main character is loaded via external code using hero:mainChar = new mainChar(); in the external file. after this, i would like to check what the current frame of a nested movieclip is. for example, hero.walk.currentFrame. however, by initializing it using the external code, as opposed to my previous method of placing it right on the stage, the compiler is not picking up of hero.walk.currentFrame stating that "a term is undefined and has no properties (error type 1010)". Is there any way for me to let the compiler know that the nested movieclip is there. It's odd because i can state hero.gotoAndStop("walk"), but when i say hero.walk it gives an error, so i know it isnt spelling.
I was trying to build an application where a designer has created content on the timeline as a sequence of key frames. Each key frame is completely different. When the application is started I choose one of the frames, move the play head to that frame and stop (using gotoAndStop). Next, by referring to symbols in the key frame by name, I use AS3 to allow drag and drop, and I also do some programmatic movement.
The problem is that when I move to a different key frame on the timeline using gotoAndStop, the symbols that were touched by AS3 in the previous frame, even if they are not referenced by the designer's key frame, show up on the stage. It is as though any DisplayObject that I touch with AS3 becomes divorced from the timeline.
how to programatically work with timeline (MovieClip) content that was manually created by a designer. This just seems like it should be a really common use case. It seems that about the only thing I can do safely with the timeline is to move the play head and respond to events (if I don't change the state of DisplayObjects in the timeline). Also, is there any good documentation on how objects get allocated and destroyed when the timeline plays?
I created a new flash ide project and used a document class named 'Main.as'. Then I created Main.as file. I then drew a box and converted it to a movieclip and used export for actionscript on it. I assigned the square box in the flash ide the instance name 'box1'. Below is my Main.as file[code]...
I tried something interesting recently. I had code effecting an object with the instance name : object_mc.Now I added another object and gave it the same instance name.The result was, that the code only effected the most recent added object (no error).Is there a way in flash to have multiple objects with the same instance name all being affected by one piece of code?
I am developing an isometric rpg engine in flash AS3. I have decided to separate the engine code completely from the game data, which is in xml. So I have all the maps in xml files, all the quests and npcs etc. My question is when to parse the xml into actual Actionscript code. Should I do this at the start of every play session? Should I only parse the maps as they are called? This is like start up code. For example, I want to parse every tile into a tile object, then draw it to the map. Also, I want to parse the quests in the xml into quest objects so that they can be accessed by other code. So, when should I do this??
I purchased this Thermometer flash template everything works well data is being populated through an xml file but I want to put multiple Swf files on a page with different data.Is there a way I can use SWf Objects.js to call a flash var of the XML file in the browsers source code.This is the Action Script Code
ActionScript Code: stop(); import caurina.transitions.Tweener;//import tween class stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;//define how stage scales
If I press the button for the photogallery it creats new Objects, and dont erase it after i go back to main. So long its load all the objects in the memory and its exists all the time...
But I want that, delete all the objects from the memory after i go back to the main!
here is the source code:

If objects are created dynamically in AS3, using code like this:
for (var num:Number = 0; num<10; num++){ var txtFld:TextField = new TextField(); txtFld.text = 'This is the original text'; this.addChild(txtFld); }
then later, i want to changet the text of one of the TextFields, how can I do that? The only instance listed in the variables is a single instance of "txtFld" and it is the last one that is created. How can I access the others?
i created a "for" function who īll display an X number of buttons with addChild, and give a name for each using button.name = "name" + variable but later if I want to listen for the buttons using their name donīt work, already know that there is getChildByName so i tried but give me the same error who tells that there no object with that name.My question is, how i can listen for the objects created if i already have a name for each one of them? here is the code im doing.
for(var i:int = 1; i <6;i++){var miBoton:boton = new boton();var miTexto:TextField = new TextField();miBoton.x = i * miBoton.width + (i* 10);miBoton.y = 20;addChild(miBoton);miBoton.name = "boton" + i;miTexto.text = "hi";miBoton.addChild(miTexto);trace(miBoton.name);trace(miBoton.parent);}
I have an issue in flex which is causing a bit of a headache!
I am adding objects to an ArrayCollection but in doing so, another ArrayCollection is also picking up these changes even though there is no binding occurring.
I can see from the debug that the two ACs have the same address but for the life of me can't figure out why.
I have two Array Collections:
model.index.rows //The main array collection model.index.holdRows //The array collection that imitates the above
This phantom data binding occurs only for the first iteration in the loop and for all others it will just write it the once.
The reason this is proving troublesome is that it creates duplicate entries in my datagrid.
public override function handleMessage(message:IMessage):void { super.handleMessage(message);
So I'm trying to create an object in my document class then reference it from a custom class file.I'm creating a photoContainer MC in the createPhotoContainer method and directly after it's creation it gets passed to the GalleryView class by calling it's constructor function.
ActionScript Code: public class GalleryDocument extends MovieClip {
I need to be able to make a large amount of concentric circles, using only the action script. I need to be able to alter each of these concentric circles independently from each other. Currently My code is as follows:
ActionScript Code: var circ1:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); addChild(circ1);
I have a scroll pane with textboxes and buttons that are dynamically created in a function. The textboxes are a user list that can get very long.
I am having problems where once I get out of this frame I want everything to be removed. I have tried removing the scroll pane but all the dynamically created objects remain. Is there some command when you enter a new frame to clear all objects or something along that line?
