Flash 10 :: Manually Setting Rotation On Stage Objects?

Mar 18, 2012

Hi everyone. This should be a simple question. Using flash professional CS5

I'm manually setting up stuff on the stage (authortime). And i've placed an object at a specific rotation. I now want to place another object, with the exact same rotation.

The problem is, i cannot find any way to read the object's rotation, or to specifically set it (ie: by typing in a value, rather than by manipulating editor handles)

I'm looking in the properties window and there's readouts/settings for position, size, scale, a ton of 3D properties, color effect properties, display properties, and filters. But there's no field for rotation. why the hell not! Isn't that a ridiculously simple and stupid omission?

so far the best method i can find is using free transform, and adjusting it manually til it "looks right", which is a very un-exact way of doing things.

Actionscript 3 :: Operating On Objects Using Flash That Were Created Manually By A Designer In The Timeline

Jul 25, 2011

I was trying to build an application where a designer has created content on the timeline as a sequence of key frames. Each key frame is completely different. When the application is started I choose one of the frames, move the play head to that frame and stop (using gotoAndStop). Next, by referring to symbols in the key frame by name, I use AS3 to allow drag and drop, and I also do some programmatic movement.

The problem is that when I move to a different key frame on the timeline using gotoAndStop, the symbols that were touched by AS3 in the previous frame, even if they are not referenced by the designer's key frame, show up on the stage. It is as though any DisplayObject that I touch with AS3 becomes divorced from the timeline.

how to programatically work with timeline (MovieClip) content that was manually created by a designer. This just seems like it should be a really common use case. It seems that about the only thing I can do safely with the timeline is to move the play head and respond to events (if I don't change the state of DisplayObjects in the timeline). Also, is there any good documentation on how objects get allocated and destroyed when the timeline plays?

I have a candlestick chart that is working great when the numbers being dealt with are large but when the numbers are small the vertical axis starts at the very top of my data and ends at the very bottom. For example if my max number in my XML is 12 and my min is 11 the charts top is 12 and the charts bottom is 11 with 11.2, 11.4, 11.6, 11.8 in between. How can I force the chart to do 22 to 1 on the vertical axis ({maxgraph+10} and {mingraph-10}).

Flash :: Move A Displayobject Based On Another Objects Rotation?

Jan 17, 2010

Ive probably ran into some code like this before. just cant remember where. I have 2 display objects on my stage. One is rotating and the other is positioned 90 degrees from the rotating object. As the object rotates, the other object adjusts its x and y positioning from the rotating object..

If this doesnt make sense, then let me explain what I am trying to do. I have a spaceship in my flash game. this ship has 2 torrets siting on the left and right wing. as the ship turns, the torrets need to remain on the wings.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Does Setting An Array Of Objects To Null Erase The Objects From Memory

Apr 27, 2010

I have an array of temporary objects created in a for loop. The objects are of type class "Tile", a class I created. However, it appears that whenever I create a lot of tiles in the for loop, the program slows down indefinitely.

While the array is whiped at a later trigger point, I am thinking that perhaps these Tile objects are not being erased from memory. They are being created on the fly in a for loop, and the array is being reset to "array = []".

Are the objects still in memory or are they cleaned up when the array is set to []?

But how can I manually add the MovieClip to the stage and feed it the one parameter when it's instanciated? I've tried all the usual stuff but nothing seems to work:

var testClip:className = new className("helloworld");

testClip is the name of the MovieClip that's been manually placed on the stage.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Setting Rotation Of Object - Input TextBox Show Undefined

Oct 28, 2010

I'm trying to set the rotation of an object via an input textbox for debugging purposes. Currently I have the object working when it changes rotation automatically. A variable is reset every few seconds to a random number between -180 and +180 and then the rotation of the object changes to match the variable. However different things are meant to happen when the rotation variable is set at varying degrees so I rehashed the code so that instead of being a random number it responds to the variable in an input textbox.

Now... I set up the input textbox with the variable, and a dynamic textbox to show me the rotation set for the object. however every time I enter a variable in the input textbox the set-rotation changes to "Undefined". Am I supposed to add some kind of a "Submit entered number" button somehow. In the past when I have used input textboxes the number is processed automatically.

E.g.. dynamic textbox is 5*variable.
Enter #number. As you type input- the number appears inside the dynamic textbox

I even added a longer delay. The number in the dynamic textbox IS CHANGED with no resulting change in the rotation of the object. As the time countdown loop comes to a close (After every 9 seconds set rotation to input box) the text instantly changes to "Undefined".

This is my semi-finished art project URL...If you open it normally (providing you have a webcam) it works perfectly however I'm looking to showcase the piece on a projector and need to have it full screen.[code]I have made the piece so that the "orbs" rotate around the center point and the diamter of the rotation alters dependant on the activity level of the webcam. It looks very pretty when you open the swf. normally but when full screened the centres of rotation are completely off.Whats the best way around this? I'm in desperate need of full screen capability! [code]ps forgot to mention. all code is inside a blank movieclip called "orb" and then a copy of the movieclip is placed in every corner but flipped/rotated to achieve the butterfly/symmetry effect. this is the issue i belive that effects the full screen stuff.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Setting Objects Width While Rotating?

Mar 24, 2010

I'm working on putting together a game at the moment which is similar in many ways to mini golf (or crazy golf, depending on where you come from). It is shown from a side-on view and to play the user must select the ball by holding the mouse down over it, then drag the mouse to indicate the direction they wish to fire the ball in. The distance they drag the mouse (this is capped obviously) determines the power of their shot.

I am currently using a triangular object with the tip placed at the centre of the ball to show to the user the direction they have chosen. This triangle rotates to face the position of the mouse, and I'm trying to get it to extend/shorten based on the distance from the mouse to the ball. I have code in place (below) that works when the mouse is either to the left or right of the ball, but behaves rather strangely when the mouse is above or below the ball. When the mouse is in either of the latter locations, the triangle extends to be far bigger than the maximum length allowed by the program, yet a trace shows it is still within acceptable limits! I'm almost beginning to think that Flash is switching the 'width' and 'length' attributes around when the object is rotated by either 90 or -90 degrees!

The code I am using is:

[Code]....

Here's a couple of screenshots of the game as it currently stands too - please don't laugh at the horrible placeholder art: none of it is final haha (also note that I haven't implemented 'gravity' yet, so everything is sort of hovering in mid-air.) The first image shows the code working as I want it to with the triangle at it's max width, the second shows the triangle going 'huge.'

ActionScript 3.0 :: Determine Rotation Of Object To Stage?

Jun 18, 2009

How can I get the X, Y, and rotation values, relative to the stage of a child of unknown number of parents?

What I am doing is: I have a 'stick' object, that creates a child 'stick', that creates a child 'stick', etc a random number of times.

The end stick then creates a leaf.

Each new stick rotates a little bit randomly.

As a result when my leaf falls off the final stick it flies off in a strange direction.

How can I get the leaf to fall down (eg y++ relative to stage)?

Alternatively I thought I could dispatch an event that has a leaf created at the stage level but then I really need to know what the X and Y co-ordinates of my final stick is realtive to the stage.

Flash - Calling Display Objects To Stage

Apr 15, 2012

I'm new with strings and arrays. I want script to calling display objects to the stage and the timer to move images up and down to appear like a scrolling numbers. I start getting sloppy, and mess up passing to Tweener.

- An explanation or strategy may be enough, "I've got pretty close on this one"
- There was confusion regarding the Containers and addChildren...looked like arrays

The code "get as far as error with NumbersView and numbers undefined etc".

import flash.display.DisplayObject;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.utils.Dictionary;
import flash.events.Event;
import caurina.transitions.Tweener;
[Code] .....

The methods were proved separately. "I got a earlier version of the document going, but I need to work through this to understand it."

Symbol Properties
Class ImageView
Tweener
The "caurina" folder needs to be present
Rolling Numbers "Success loading numbers and connecting to counter".

Placed the movie clip object on stage with two dynamic text fields in it. Make sure the container is placed on stage, has the two text fields in it, and everything is given a proper instance name. Also include the caurina folder.

Seconds MovieClip symbol with instance name of seconds
firstDigit Dynamic text field with instance name of firstDigit, placed in seconds
secondDigit Dynamic text field with instance name of secondDigit, placed in seconds

Symbol
Un-tick 'Export for ActionScript'
Use 'Name, Class, and Instance' correctly
