EVERY SINGLE WEB SITE that has a flash file embedded on it causes my flashlog.txt file to display the following message, usually multiple times while a flash file is loading...
Warning: 'flash' has no property 'prototype'
This happens literally every single time I load a web page that contains a flash file embedded on it, regardless of where.
Otherwise it seems to trace all other errors and trace commands just fine.
Is this something I actually need to be concerned with in my development? I am assuming no since I get this warning in the flashlog.txt for every single flash file I open in my browser.
I am getting Warning: 'flash' has no property 'prototype' every time I load a swf in my flashlog.txt.Does anyone know how to disable that warning or all warnings in the mm.cfg file or maybe some other way?
View 3 RepliesI've taught myself actionscript without books (working on a book now, finally) and I'm wondering how to do something fairly simple: Constantly get the property of an object.... for example, lets say I want to dynamically scale a clip using buttons... if you just use the tween class it will not work! I don't know why (again self taught), but you have to constantly get the _xscale and _yscale property. Currently I'm doing this via an empty movie clip with the following actionscript:

I'm trying to make my first prototype, but I can't put it to work, I wanted to atribute a property to a variable, so I could call the prototype on to the movie clip, asking for any property, without having to change the prototype code.Is it possible?Here is my code so far:

I'm a very new user to AS3 and I'm attempting to migrate a site from Flash CS3 to CS4 on a Mac. I keep getting the following compile warning: "Warning: Actions on button or movie clip instances are not supported in Action Script 3. All scripts on object instances will be ignored." This is very confusing to me. I thought that scripts could be attached to both frames and objects? Is this a bug that is a result of switching from versions? Or is this warning true; and I have to abandon all uses of attaching scripts to objects on the stage?
Also: Can anyone illuminate me on the keystroke to call the actions window in AS3? It is supposed to be the F9 function key and another that I can;t locate on my keyboard!? As I said,I'm a very new user, so be kind!!

i have flash debugger version 10. The click on the app is initiated using a test tool and flash logs are collected locally on user machine. The log file is getting cleared every time the user logs out of the application.
Tried PolicyFileLogAppend=1 line in mm.cfg file at the user terminal. But no luck. The log file gets clearned when the user logs out of the app. My test is like login1>do task1> logout1 > login2 > do task 2 > logout2 When login2 gets executed the file gets cleared. finally it holds the log of the task2 alone.
I would like to use trace in firefox and the firefox plug-in needs to use flashlog.txt.
This file doesn't exist on my mac.
Flash keeps looping which is causing certain variables to add values constantly. E.g.

That will constantly add one to "score" when a certain word is typed into a text box. How do I add one to "score" without stopping the application or playing it once?

I have a flash movie that I want to play in my site, however whenever I select the link to play it, it comes up with this error:

To let this application communicate with the Internet, click Settings. You m ust restart the application after changing your settings. I have several .swfs files in my site. Not one of them gives me this error. When I try it locally on another machine, I also get the same message. I need to avoid this so site visitors won't be discouraged and leave.
The other weird thing is the audio begins playing when this popup comes up. Then when I click ok, it picks up in the video wherever it should be as if it has been playing the whole time.
This doesn't make any sense to my feeble brain, and I've reached my googlefu limit.

View 1 RepliesI need to prototype a tabbed interface in Flash, AS3. I was thinking of 3 MC buttons on my timeline (let's say there instance names are; tab1, tab2, tab3).
In theory I would have a respective MC (instance names; content1, content2, content3) for each tab and when the tab was clicked on, it's MC would appear below (i.e. tab1 was clicked and in result shows content1).
Any guidance as to how I would structure this in Flash I'm blanking on the code structure to get this working and can't use easy goto's on frame ids as once performed in AS2

I have a parent window that has a flash movie embedded in it. When a certain button is clicked inside the flash movie, it calls a a pop up javascript function to pop up a window with another flash movie embedded in it. This flash movie (the one embedded in the pop up window) has a button that I need to close the pop up and refresh the parent window when clicked. (i.e., when the user clicks the button, the pop up closes and the main parent window goes to a different URL).
I used javascripting inside flash to do so, it works fine, however, I keep getting a warning message when using IE : ("The website you are viewing is trying to close the window, do you want to close this window?"). This message is not displayed in FireFox. I don't want this message to appear. I read about a lot of solutions around this, however, they only work when I test them in regular html pages, but not when used in a button inside a flash movie.

But when I run the application with the FlashBuilder, the logging in the consul page is ok, it doesn't include any "normal" String.I thought that the output of the flashlog.txt file should be the same as that of the consul of FlashBuilder.And I don't think I have added such a stupid trace in my code.The question is how can I find out where these "normal" trace come from and how to remove it.

View 6 RepliesNot sure how many remember what flash paper was, but it was a program that converted PDFs into a flash application.So I am building it in AS3 (not the conversion process, but the viewer).My question has to do with the zoom feature, well I guess the previous/next buttons as well.The way the previous and next buttons work is they reference an array of Y values of where the next page is. The array looks like this:
0,800,1600,2400,3200....etc
This works fine, however, when I go to zoom those values are not accurate anymore more.
Whenever you Zoom up I up the scale by += 0.1
Whenever you Zoom down I down the scale by -= 0.1
In that process I need to update the Y Value array to match the new height of all the combined pages. How could I do that?

i have this listener object below. i also have a text area component called, "taPhoneNmbr", that you type a phone number into. what currently happens that the listener object will listen for change in the taPhoneNmbr.length. once taPhoneNmbr.length reaches the value of the areacode it will add a hyphen to the end of the last character in taPhoneNmbr component.
same thing will happen once taPhoneNmbr.length reaches the value of prefix, resulting in a phone format like this: 800-555-1234 my problem now is that if i were to make a mistake with the number i've typed i cannot delete the last hyphen only because flash is constantly adding the hyphen through the listener. so i added the removeEventListener at the end of the else if statement. though i'm able to delete the hyphens, how do i "pause" the listener in the event where i either make changes to the prefix(not var) or area code(not var) portion of the taPhoneNmbr text? i know i could mickey mouse it and cheat by creating a clear all button, but i figured i'd challenge myself.

In order to make this easier on the eye I have a header label and then a datagrid within the repeater.Whilst this works perfectly, because the dataprovider for the datagrid comes from an array in the repeaters dataprovider, it is causing the following warning:Data binding will not be able to detect assignments to "report"The warning is for this line:

I'm getting a Flash Builder warning message for multiple variable declarations of variable arr1 in the following AS3 [code]...
I could eliminate this warning with a few more if/else statements, but the code runs fine and I can't see why I should add complexity if the warning is acceptable. Would like to hear anyone else's opinion though if you think differently.
Assuming the warning is fine to live with, how to suppress the warning manually in Flash Builder? That is, only the warning for this example; other warnings must still be displayed.
