I understand that all business logic related to a View resides in the Presentation Model associated with that view, however, I am confused when it comes to View specific logic.For example, I have an indicator that needs to be positioned relatively to list items depending on which list item is selected. Is it acceptable in the Presentation pattern to put the logic that will position the indicator in the View and simply have that logic run in reaction to a selectedIndex property changing in the presentation model?The reason I am considering this is that since the Presentation Model does not have a reference to the view it is difficult to come up with an ideal solution for manipulating view components.

Jun 3, 2011I'm using some Lynda.com tutorial files for Flash CS5. When I open a file that contains a box with TLF text, I don't see any text; what I see is an empty blue box at the upper left corner of the stage. Same thing if I try to draw a TLF text box.I am new to Flash, so please be kind. Is there maybe a component I should have installed with the CS5 suite that I didn't install? I didn't install everything since I didn't need it all and don't have the disk space.

Feb 8, 2012I have a very big map (pixeldata, not vector) and i want to create a viewer in flash that allows to view the map. The map is stored (in some way, to be decided) on a server. Probably the map will be stored in different resolutions on the server. The viewer should download the currently needed parts in the proper resolution at the current zoomlevel from the server to display it - similarily to google maps for example. Now - i already have some ideas on how to do this - but maybe there is already a framework available for exactly this or some good article describing it (client as well as server-vise).

Jun 13, 2010I have one .mxml file (the Application) with a ViewStack (with 4 views) and a ControlBard, obviously I can change the views with it, but what I want to do is: in view #1 I have an image which I want to convert to a "hyperlink", so when I click it I go to View #2, is this doable? Also I would like to pass somehow some data (like a String) to that View #2 (lets say the it's a user avatar I click so I want to go to the second view which will show me his profile, that's why I need his name/id).

Jan 22, 2011Flash Builder's design view is worse than 3's (which at least was usable if you ignore some quirks), so WHAT do Flex UI designers (those who don't have paid design teams...) do to design a complex UI? Because Design View (also based on what a lot of people say about it..) gets more useless with every release.See image for some differences in design view vs.Flash. WHAT is causing this? css also posted..("Duration", "hr", "min" are mx Labels, the image size text is an mx Text comp.Project is an "mx only" SDK 4.1 project.) Jul 3, 2011I am evaluating flex for a mobile and a web application and one of things I want to be able to do is show a google docs or a microsoft docs file (doc,ppt) within a flex application. Google docs files are published as web pages so I guess you need a html component with javascript enabled. Does such a component exist in flex 4+? Similarly how would I go about showing a word or a powerpoint file inside a flex app? How does a site like slideshare or scribd do it?

Context: I'm currently trying to automate our build process using GradleFx so we can move away from using Flash Builder and run our build on a CI server. At present, I'm running into a few problems and my lack of knowledge about the flash/flex build process is impeding progress. Jun 29, 2009I am a beginner developer in Flex, and I have been using viewstates lately. I had a couple of custom popup titlewindow components that are initialized using[code]...
They both contain view states already, and are very similar so I wanted to combione them into one popup titlewindow and change view state on initialisation of the popup to either the Create version of the popup or the Update.
I thought I was being smart haha, but I realized soon after refactoring my code that, I as far as I know I can't pass parameters to the popup to indicate which state I want, if it is created using the PopUpManager.
Does anyone know how to pass parameters to the PopupManager, or create the ContentCreate component(TitleWindow) in mxml or code so I can specify the view state?

Oct 27, 2010Does anyone have any knowledge (preferably with links to make it official) about how/if Flash/Flex culls objects not in view, to stop them getting drawn when not needed? A specific cases: I have an 800x600 panel (a Canvas or Sprite, or other container) containing loads of Sprites representing individual game objects like asteroids or spaceships or missiles or map-tiles. The game world might be 5000x5000 so can I naively position Sprites anywhere in this range and let Flash cull them effectively? Or do I need to manage visibility somehow at a higher level (like manually removing them from the parent) to avoid performance issues?

Jan 7, 2010Basically at my school we are doing a project that allows you to walk around the school like you can on "Google Street View". Me being a geek, the teacher asked me to make a prototype using my house to see if this idea would work. So today I went on Flash and made two working Flash/SWF files, one being a "Google Street View"type of thing of my upstairs and one of my downstairs of my house. I made two SWFs because at school there are many different people working on the project so there will be many different SWFs to combine.
So after making the two SWFs (the upstairs one called Untitled-2 and the downstairs called downstairs) I tried to merge them together. Each one of the SWFs have action script on these" Arrows" that allows you to guide around my house. The action script on all the arrows is:

I made a new Flash Document and one the first scene I had a Button That Said "Begin". Once Pressed, it takes you to scene 2. On scene two I went to File > Import > Import to Library and Selected Untitled-2.swf. Untitled-2.swf was then in my library. I clicked and dragged it into the stage of Scene 2 and in the timeline only 1 keyframe pooped up. I thought it would work so I previewed the Flash Movie. The Begin Button show up, and when I clicked it preview file Flashed each Keyframe in Untitled-2.swf even though the first frame in Untitled-2.swf has the action script: stop(); The whole thing is uncontrollable and I dont know what to do. I hope you understood what I wrote (Im not the best with spelling and grammar). So in a nut shell, how can I combine 2 SWF files In Flash, whilst maintaining all the action script in each file.
Flash :: Flex - What Are Possible Non-code-related Reasons For A Blank Screen In Builder 4.6 Design View?
Dec 13, 2011I was editing a very basic mobile Flex project, and after I debugged the master (application) mxml file, Design View stopped working (blank screen displayed, no Design View errors) for all files. Creating new projects, either mobile or else, or testing old, working projects, doesn't work either. Out of the related issues I've found info on, most concern earlier versions of the IDE, and deal with either Design View errors (got none), use of certain functions or custom components (I get the error even on a new project), or are solved by changing styles back-and-forth (tried already, to no avail).
I can't drag and drop components to the design area, either (a "prohibited" symbol appears and nothing happens when I drop); so I'm pretty sure it's not code-related or a bug, but probably something stupid, like a configuration issue, so I definitely need someone to take a fresh look at it.
Media Server :: Use NetStreamPlayTransitions.SWITCH To Create A Multi Angle View That Switches Between Video Streams?
Feb 21, 2010Hi,I'm trying to use NetStreamPlayTransitions.SWITCH to create a multi angle view that switches between video streams. The issue I'm having is that NetStream.Play.TransitionComplete is called only after the buffer for the video before it is used up(this makes sense when using SWITCH to go between bandwidths but that's not what i'm using it for). Is there a way to force this switch before the buffer of the previous video is used up?
I've looked into SWAP but I can't really find any documentation on it. What I ideally would have happen is the next video in the array is triggered, that video is buffered and when there is enough to play it the stream switches to that one. SWITCH works really nice because there is no jump in switching when it's played but I just don't want the buffer to play out before the switch.Is there a way of maybe clearing the buffer of the playing video before i call SWITCH so it transitions quickly?
Java :: View Part Of A Web Application - What Technology For A Pretty Intensive Grid View
Aug 3, 2010I'm about to have to write a web page/app that will serve the agenda for circa 100 people on a page. One line per person, one column per day with 3 clickable zones in each cell. In HTML, the page is way complex for the browser to load quick and there is no possibility to click on a border between 2 cells to for example split an event that spreads among several cells. So I search an not too overkilling technology to render this kind of view. I begun with a PHP generated HTML page but the number of elements in the page make the mouse move jerky.
Moving to JAVA would give me better performances regarding the reuse of the generator of the view but it will still be an HTML page. So, here is my question: do you think that going forward with JAVA and its graphical capability is the simple solution or is Flash a better option for this part of a Web App? I'm afraid of the code I'll have to write in JAVA to handle the GUI presentation as well as the events generated by the 1000's cells plus borders of the page. In Flash, the graphical part seems simpler even if the actions handling is still huge.

Feb 15, 2011There is a Flex app with 7 main views. And there is a memory issue when navigating between views.All these views were in a ViewStack, but due to some involving 3D objects I assumed it was too much to have it all in the display list. I'm now clearing all children from the stack and adding/removing them when needed. This gave a small performance increase, but still becomes unresponsive with use. The strange thing is, with this and the original method, the CPU climbs with use but eventually levels out somewhere. Now I'm creating new instances of each screen when they are navigated to and setting the previous variable to null. Now it looks like CPU is spiking when the view is created, but leveling out to something much much lower than it was. This felt like progress, but now the available memory keeps climbing where it wasn't before....
My understanding was calling remove child or remove all children would mark the object for deletion when the garbage collector next ran. I can't see any other references to the instance. My code is along the lines of [code]I have a function for each button to add a new instance like the above.The only thing I can see and feel silly asking but need confirmation, is each view extends a class called "Screen", this class contains a singleton reference to some core components.[code]Would this trick the garbage collector into thinking it was still needed? General advice on clearing Objects from the memory pool would awesome!!! I've never needed to analyze the Flash Player in such depth.I think it's an error with sound drivers, removing all sound and shes purring like a kitten. Works on my machine fine with windows XP, but not on the touch pad the application is crashing on with windows 7 (unsure of the drivers looking into them now) Now I'm thinking its not the drivers, tried 3 different versions, all with no improvement. I did discover the sound was fading in and out with the TweenLite lib. Doesn't look like there are any memory leaks in TweenLite as it works fine on other machines. Just the use of volumeEasingFunction seems to consume increasing amounts of CPU until it freaks out. It is crappy hardware running windows 7, which doesn't help.

Professional :: View To A Webpage In Normal View?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Canvas View/cropped View?
Oct 8, 2009in flash, I encounted a source file that is cropped and I cannot move it, is there some sort of cropped view in flash I dont know about? I cannot find anyinformation about it, it has rulers displayed as far as I remember.
Basically you cannot move in the file to edit anything viewpoint wise, everything outside of the movie area is invisible and not there? As if cropped.

May 23, 2011We used to write our UnitTests with FlexUnit and we were just testing our model. Now we want to test the view too. Before i run my tests i create an instance of my view and my model to test the stuff. When i try to access the view i get a null pointer exception. If i add the view to the displaylist it somehow works - even if i remove it from the list right after adding.it looks something like this:
