I have this image over which i have a circular crop. The user can move the underlying image and when he is ok with the result hits the crop button. How can i crop only that part of the image which is under the mask?

I'm building a Flash Banners application in my Flash portfolio website and I'm loading a SWF using addChild via a URL loader object. There is no way to mask the outsides of the SWF because addChild puts the SWF at the front of the display list so the masks would just show up anyway and the masks will just be huge white sheets that will look dreadful. I need to LITERALLY crop the SWF down to 550 X 325 pixels.

At the heart of its cropping is using a method called "copyPixels". However, this method takes as one of its arguments a rectangular shape for its crop region. Are there other strategies I can use to crop it not using a rectangle.
I am going after letting the user specify the region that should be cropped using a series of points.
To crop the image into a selected size by drawing rectangle over it. It should be done in ActionScript 3.0 and Flex 3.0

View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble setting up a Graphic object (a solid filled rectangle) to be masked with an image that gets loaded at runtime. I've managed to get it to work with the following code:

Setting the PNG inside the <s:mask> makes the stage render nothing, while adding the mask programmatically in the init() method causes correct behaviour. It took me quite a while to figure this out and I'd like to understand what it is that I'm doing incorrectly in the MXML approach, as that seems to be what is being done in the Cookbook (other than me using an Image and the example using a Group wrapped BitmapImage).
maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.
how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.

View 1 RepliesI just started working with bitmaps and I do not get them at all, I've read the entire page adobe has on bitmap and bitmapdata. I've got this code together but all it does is displays a white rectangle and not my image.

View 4 RepliesI've been playing with the Jpeg encoder now for a while and haven't come much further than just realising how to turn an image into a ByteArray of numbers. The code below is incredibly useful at turning a movieclip on the stage into a Jpeg and downloading it to the user. Unfortunately I need to amend the Bytearray first with a crop tool before creating the jpeg. e.g. delete the array value if the image is outside of the rectangle? And a rotate tool, e.g. all the values in the array switch places 90 degrees!? (the X and Y values switch over).Also it downloads to the user, but I need it to save onto the server so I can keep using it in flash, before then emailing the jpeg to a known email address.
(E.g. if a 10px x 10px bitmap, would have 100 values in the array, to crop it into a 5 x 5 image, I would delete array entries
where X < 2 and X > 7
and Y < 2 and Y> 7.
Or to rotate it, X for 1st pixel becomes the Y for the 1st pixel and vice versa)....

my issue is this, my users import an image with FileReference and I need to mask it and then send it to server.My problem is this: I'm be able do keep the filereference event and transfer the image data into my canvas. I'm be able to send to server the result of masking.But I'm NOT be able to mask the image that my users have load in my canvas.

I recently tried using a png image from the library as a mask for a movieclip on stage. Much to my surprise, the mask is just a rectangle. I expected it to ignore the 0-alpha pixels in the image and just mask out the visible shape. I managed to come up with a work around, but I just wanted to know if it was possible to use a png image as a mask and get the shape of the visible image as the mask as opposed to the whole, rectangular image area. I totally thought it was.

Flash CS4 AS2 Okay -I have a flash movie, and I want to apply a mask to it. The mask I want to apply, or rather, the "shape" of the mask I want to apply is an external image that was made in photoshop. The shape is an irregular one with a bunch of jagged edges. the shape itself is solid, with a transparent background. I've tried saving it as a PNG with transparent b/g, and I've tried importing the PSD file directly into Flash - however - when I go to use this shape for a mask, the mask that is applied is an entire rectangle bounding the imported image - rather than along the edges.Hopefully you can see what I'm trying to do here, and perhaps offer some insight on how I can get this image into flash (let's stick with the idea that the jagged edged manner of the image is too difficult to recreate inside of flash).
View 13 RepliesI am working on an animation with two masks, which plays in Flash as expected, an exported SWF is ok, an exported Quicktime is ok, except for the dreaded ghosting which renders it useless, but when I export it as an image sequence (gif, png or jpg), one of the masks is consistently ignored, while the other one masks as expected. This already shows when I export one single frame as an image. As a result, I currently have no way to create a quicktime movie for this animation (running CS4 on OSX 10.6.5)
Any other way to arrive at a quicktime movie?
I'm putting a mask on an image that is being animated around the stage which works fine, but when i change the mask using as3 the mask stops following the image and stays in one place.. while the image moves around the stage... is there a way to force the mask to stick on the image?

I'm using FlashDevelop, trying to create a wipe away effect. But for some reason, if you hold the mouse button down for a little while in one place, the underlying image (ice) gets erased and reveals the default background. How do I prevent that from happening?
