I just made a scroll area with buttons and draggable items. All the code is written for vertical scrolling, the content I need to be scrolled is going to be horizontal. how can I rewrite this code to be horizontal scrolling? it seems like the scroll button (the one you drag along) doesn't stay confined to its scroll line either.

autoscroll functionality in Flex2's DataGrid while dragging an element row in it. Is there such a functionality or not?
I mean, I have a DataGrid which contains a collection of rows. The collection is longer that the DataGrid could fit, hence there is a vertical scrollbar that allows to get to the rest of rows. I have enabled the functionality of moving-by-draging to be able to change the order of rows in the DataGrid (see the simple code below).
Now, let's say I want to move the first (topmost) row to the last (bottom) position of the collection. When the top row is displayed, the bottom one is not visible (not without moving the scrollbar). So when I drag the top row, I cannot drop it beyond the few currently visible rows. Surely I could drag a bit and then scroll to bottom and then drag a bit more, but that's not the point. The point is - is there a functionality of autoscroll implemented in Flex2 DataGrid, where the collection would scroll itself automatically to allow one to drag beyond the few visible rows?
In Adobe's official PDF document "Flex2 Developer's Guide", section "Using drag-and-drop with list-based controls" I've found this sentence:

I can drag an object from one scrollpane to another, but I can't duplicate the object or everything will fall apart as you see if you try to scroll up and down in my .fla.
What I want it to do in the end:
I want the box to create a bigger size of itself, drag the larger clone that it created from pane A into pane B and scrolling in the panes would work. I'd go with attachmovie to make a bigger clone, but I'm not sure on how to do that.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

how I would add scroll wheel capability to the scrolling? I've tried a few methods, but I'm not very good at class based coding, and from I've read, it's necessary to perform that function.
Here's the scenario... I have an .swf that is 1050px in height. On most browser's that is too tall. What I'd like to do, is use the browser's scroll bars to auto scroll to the bottom of the page during the loading sequence, and then scroll back up to the top. It all works fine, what change the scrolling. At current it scrolls up and down according to where I have set the 'line', I would like it to scroll up and down near the top and the bottom, rather than all the time (effectively creating a dead zone in the middle). I cant figure out how to change the code to get this to behave as required.

I'm trying to do something that makes sense in my head, but can only translate to code with mixed success.On the screen is 6x4 grid of boxes, 24 in total. These boxes represent a number of entries in a big visual timeline, the total of which can be anywhere from 1 to many thousand. Of course, only a fixed number of 24 can be seen at any one time.The grid scrolls left/right to show previous/future timeline entries in their box form.
The grid normally starts at the very first entry, but there is an offset built-in to it so that you can, for instance, start the display of these entries at a certain point. For instance, if you have 26 entries with an offset of 1, that means there will be 1 entry not seen to the left (before), 24 on the screen seen, and 1 entry not seen to the right (future). Or if you have an offset of 10, there would be 10 to the left (not seen) and 16 filling the space on screen, etc.The scrolling basically slides the entries left or right by a factor of 4 (since the columns consist of 4 boxes), but must be clamped to not scroll beyond the total number.
Is there some simple math anyone can think of to track the state of these boxes? I ask because I will have Flash create *only* the 24 max that can be seen at any one time. Any time you scroll to the right or left, Flash will create up to 4 new boxes to fit that next column, and then animated all 28 boxes (24 existing + 4 new) to move the new ones on (and the old ones off), and then delete the old ones. This is to keep things optimized since creating many thousands of boxes that each load external content is not very feasible.

coding some automatic scrolling text? i've had a look around the internet, but all i can find is text that is scrolled using buttons. what i'm after is a way of coding text so it loads up into a text box (which i will call tf) (to start off with i don't mind putting it into the code as static text), scrolls on its own, and when it get to the end, it repeats the scroll, and is neverending. i would like it to go vertical (that ups the page in case i've picked the wrong one!), and be able to pick the scroll speed so i can slow it down or make it go faster. if someone can give me some sample code to get me going that would be great, and i'll try to sort out the rest myself.

View 1 RepliesI know ZERO about flash/actionscript and have been tasked with creating a vertical text/html scroller. This would act like a news ticker but would scroll several paragraphs of text with images vertically continuously.
Here is a sample of the data that i would like to scroll vertically:

This pattern would repeat and the script would continuously scroll the information. I will be pulling that data from XML as HTML but i think i have that part under control. Just cant seem to get a sample of scrolling html/text.
