The toString method gives me the class of the object, but what I'd really like to determine is the superclass of the object. Basically, I am using Flex 3, for past 2-3 days whenever I launch any Project or debug it, I get the message box saying "Flex Builder requires a more recent version of Flash Player." It says my curent FP as 9.0.115.0 and debug version as 9.0.45.0. However, my actual FP version if FP 10.0.22.87. I don't understand why this confussion! I don't know how can I know my actual version of Debug player.

I am making a simple button in Flash CS4 with AS3. The button has a hover effect and that's it. I am wanting the button to link to a different webpage when clicked on in the same window. I am using this code:

When I test the movie in Flash, it works fine. It takes me to the webpage. However, when embedded online, it does nothing. I can click on it, and I will remain there on the same page. Like it's just a pretty image with a hover effect and no link. I've tested the button in both IE and Firefox, and it does not work in either.
Now here's the funny thing....when I use _blank instead of _self, it works just fine in both Firefox and Explorer. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

View 4 RepliesIn Actionscript 3, you quickly learn that using vector graphics is a guaranteed way to inflict massive damage to the performance of your project. Using a combination of Bitmap, its bitmapData property and its copyPixels() method in place of all vector graphics will yield a ridiculous performance boost and is essential for people like myself developing games within Flash. Beyond this I'm not really sure what the next major things that I should be targeting and attempting to optimize are.
I do use a lot of the inbuilt trigonometry functions, but they don't seem to affect it all that much. I know there are some libraries that optimize mathematics with some approximation methods and similar, but so far I haven't found these necessary. Are there any other massive known points I should be looking at? I'm more referring to the inbuilt things that I should be careful of (like avoiding vector rendering) rather than how to improve my own coding style.
I have a flex component, a VBox, that has content inside it. Text components mainly.The VBox is holding a report that I want to be able to save to PDF. I am using AlivePdf to achieve this but the PDF produced is blank when viewed in Adobe reader (latest version).When I open the PDF in Notepad++ I can see that there is definitely content in there and the file appears to be structured correctly.This is the method I am using to generate the PDF:

i've got a pretty small (in my opinion) usage of motion tween on the following site: [URL]
the circles are moving around and rotating.. not that big of a deal compared to many much more flash intensive websites that i've seen.
on a few computers i've viewed the website on, this page slows down the rest of the computer, the circles move real choppy, etc so it's very taxing on the computer/processor. making this a less intense flash tween? is it something that i'm overlooking or is what my flash file is doing truly that difficult for a computer/browser to process?

I am making my second video, so I'm not too knowledgeable. Anyway, I imported audio into my video and it plays back fine. So I play the video, and pause it to try and synchronize the audio. The video stops, but the audio keeps playing, and it will not stop until the whole thing has played. If I try to start from the beginning again and play the audio to sort of override it, it just overlaps with the original audio, and the resulting noise gives me a headache. I don't know if somehow I can stop the audio a

The application was originally developed as an English application, but during localization it became necessary to locate a unicode font capable of displaying Asian characters. The original implementation of the application uses four fonts to satisfy the various permutations of character emphasis. Bold, Bold Italic, Italic and Normal are all supplied through the corresponding Arial fonts in the Arial family.
Problem: When trying to compile in the font as one that could be used for the bold, italic, and bold italic through something like (yes its not ideal, this was just a test to see if it could be done):

Then, i imported a project from the former workspace and started working. when i tried to upload the project from the new workspace to codereview, i got the error message: could not guess version control system. Are you in a working copy directory? How does one resolve this issue? I have read somewhere that i need to checkout my svn but i thought that you only checkout when you want to get a folder/file from the svn.

I want to retrieve the build number and last compiled time stamp dynamically.
I have surfed in net and found in many examples that use ruby or bat coding to do the process of updating a version number and retrieving. Is there any way to update and maintain the version number dynamically(each time I start the debugger) using actionscript alone (with out using any other language's coding).

I have a component that changes its location based on other elements. I'm trying to find its x and y position at different intervals, so I tried compname.x and compname.y.
The x position seems to be working, but the y position is always 0. I need to play with localToGlobal or contentToGlobal or one of those conversions.
Recently I configured my BlazeDS to use Array instead of ArrayCollection for performance reasons. Additionally I adjusted my templates to generate Array properties.Everything wen't fine. All except one function that causes TypeError: Error #1034. These are being thrown before the result callback is called. It claims to have problems casting an ArrayCollection to Array. I removed the generated types to make Flex use Objects instead, but these did not contain any ArrayCollections. My question now is: How can I get the stack-traces of errors thrown in event-handlers? I allready added handlers for unhandledExceptions in all of my modules and they are called if errors occur in code triggered from user-interaction, but they don't seem to be able to catch stuff thrown by event-handlers.How can I track these Errors?
