Sep 17, 2011I'm trying to test a custom Flex 4 skinnable component, using the FlexUnit UIImpersonator class. If I run my tests from a FlashBuilder Spark only project everything works fine. If I try to test from a project with the mx component set on the classpath I get a "getElementIndex not available in non Flex 4 projects" error.Can I unit test spark components in FlexUnits visual test environment while still having the mx component set on the classpath?
UIImpersonator delegates it's method calls to a "testEnvironment".The implementation used for this "testEnvironment" is decided by the VisualTest EnvironmentBuilder class and the FlexEnvironmentBuilder class. If the FlexEnvironmentBuilder class can find the "mx.core.Container" on the classpath it returns a MX environment, else a Spark environment. Only the spark environment has valid implementations for Flex 4 relevant method calls on the UIImpersonator - like the addElement method.

Java :: Fullscreen Flash Application Test Needs External Pokes
Nov 28, 2009I'm testing a full-screen Flash application. My preference is to drive the process with Java and I've had a lot of luck with the java.awt.Robot class. I'm looking for ways of modifying the test's behavior while the app still occupies the full screen. So far, I've found one "outside control", the caps lock key. If I see the process go horribly wrong, I turn on caps lock. Toolkit.getLockingKeyState notices that caps lock is on, and the test is terminated.
I need additional ways to change test operation, like "pause test" and "next test case." It looks like I could use num lock and scroll lock, but my tests need to run on Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux, so I can't count on having those keys. This is a small operation, so it's ok if the method isn't refined. But not as kludgy as overloading the caps lock key with 5 different operations. I have no internal control of the application; I'm supposed to "test" just like a user.
Performance - Simple Flash Test Application Runs Very Slowly Compared To Exact Same Processing Applet?
Mar 3, 2011I get a working application in Flash made that lets the user click to create blocks which subsequently gravitate towards the mouse. I made the exact same thing in Processing too, just to compare speeds.However, when I run the Flash version and add around 15-20 blocks, the framerate drops to 5-10 FPS.In the Processing version I can add ~60 with no noticeable slowdown. What's the deal, Flash?

Flex :: Adobe AIR Application To Receive Back Events From Native Windows Application?
Oct 8, 2010I'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?

Aug 29, 2011I have a native (Obj-C, standard Xcode project) application and I'd like to integrate a partners iOS application (or specifically, it's functionality) into it as just another view in my application. The problem is that their application is a Flex/Air app. I really don't understand the Adobe compilation process on how it gets from a bunch of flex code down to an IPA. I don't see intermediate projects, shared objects, etc on the disk to produce that IPA. It looks like it doesn't rely on the Apple tool chain... as I understand it, you can produce the IPA on Windows as well. Is there any way to build that Flex app in such a way that I can import it into Xcode so I can link against it and use it as a library from within my application? While I specifically used iOS as an example since that is the most important platform, we'll want to apply this solution to our respective Android and Blackberry 6 apps as well.

Dec 8, 2009I have an AIR application with a system tray icon. When clicked it shows and activates the app. This is working as expected when the app is hidden (docked), however if I select another application so my app is in the background clicking on the system tray icon does nothing.
Oddly I also have a contextual menu on the system tray icon, which has an option to restore, this calls the same event handler as ScreenMouseEvent.CLICK, yet works.
I expect it's something to do with the contextual menu changing the focus, perhaps it's a bug in how AIR works with the system tray, perhaps it's just something I'm missing. Would be good to know if that's the case.
Flex :: Launch A Separate Air Application Through My Current Air Application?
Sep 1, 2010I've been trying to launch a separate Air Application through my current Air Application.Both apps are compiled using the Adobe Air 2.0 SDK. The methods I have found so far involve passing the Publisher ID in addition to the Application ID, but I believe the Publisher ID became redundant past Air 1.5.3? Below is my current implementation whic seems to correctly ascertain the Air Application's version number, but when I try to launch it, nothing seems to happen.

I have changed the app-config.xml (app descriptor) on the application I am trying to load to allow browser invocation.The version number of the app descriptor of my application I am trying to load is "V1" which the versionDetectCallback seems to pickup. If this is the case I would expect to be able to launch it but this doesn't seem the case.

Aug 30, 2009i have a movie that has worked fine in past during Html test but ive been doing some dubugging using the flash test latly and it runs fine here but when i go back and try to test in Html mode no errors come just the movie never fully starts (starts up about as much as if there was an error).

second button takes you to frame 3
but on scene 2 that performs same function as scene 1, the first button

instead of going to frame 2 goes to frame 3. and the second button goes correctly to frame 3.that happens when i test scene! when i test movie all buttons work properly.

Feb 10, 2010I have a component that, on creation, dispatches two events to populate data fields. The events should remain separate because they're used elsewhere for distinct actions.
I want to write an asynchronous flexunit test to confirm that these events are both sent. The problem is, they're both variants of the same event.

The thing is, this only tests that the first get data event is dispatched, and worse, depends on the order of event dispatch. How can I test that both of these events are eventually sent out by this method, regardless of their order?

and I saw comments suggesting to use:

But in both case, tests are case sensitiveFrom the XML Specs : "XML processors should match character encoding names in a case-insensitive way" so I presume attribute name should also be match using a case-insensitive comparison.
