Is there a way to get multi-bitrate playback working with progessive playback without having to download all versions of the file? People all coming up with all kinds of cool ways to make progressive feel like streaming.
View 1 RepliesI am passing to the source property of a VideoDisplay component a DynamicStreamingVideoSource object with 3 different dynamic live stream items, described by this XML, for your consideration:

But the player then runs the stream with the lowest bitrate, out of those 3. Wasn't it supposed to go for the stream with the highest bitrate, that is viewable by the end-user? All 3 streams have been individually tested and they are all viewable.
Developing a flash resource which runs FLV files from within it as pro
gressive. It works ok on my local testing computer/network server. But when I put it online it does not play.I opened up the components panel for each FLV and noticed they were absolutely linked to my network drive (obviously when online this linking will now work). So i changed all the linking to be relative and some warning windows did come up and say i was breaking the link but i ignored them because i don't care about how it runs locally...i want this resource to work online!line.something that it might also be is I am uploading this resource to an LMS called Janisons (perhaps they are not FLV through flash playback - friendly).
Is there any particular path of troubleshooting I could go along? Because I have just about tried everything i know!UPDATE: I changed back one of the FLVs parameters to link to local drive in the component parameters - and as expected, it runs fine locally but when previewd in chrome (which might i add has some great debugging features that you could only dream of finding in IE) i get the following message:

I am using FLVPlayback Component in Flash AS3 to play an F4V video hosted on a different server. I want it to start playing as soon as possible, but the video won't start playing until the F4V is completely downloaded (I checked with Firebug). I tried fooling around with the component's bufferTime parameter, but it didn't seem to make a difference. For what it's worth, the SWF is being embedded in a Facebook profile using the FBML tag fb:swf, although I can't see how that would make a difference here.

Can I encode all audiences to one file like Windows Media P layer,have FMIS stream that file, and have the local Flash Player detect the correct version and stream it?

On the client side, I try to play it using NetStream.play("boo"). Though, the sound quality I get is really weird. The sound goes slower and faster and stops for a split of a second. It may play properly for a couple of seconds, but that's all. Sounds like a decoder problem to me, or a bitrate conversion problem. When I play the stream with NetStream.play("mp3:rhcp") the playback goes smoothly. I've tried several mp3 files with different bitrates, but they all have the same problem.
How to control a movie clip to play, say every 3rd frame instead of every 1? Thus creating the illusion it is playing faster...

View 3 RepliesI am using Amazon's CloudFront to deliver streaming video using Adobe's Flash Media Server. I want the video to dynamically adjust it's bitrate based on the speed of the client's connection. Supposedly this is pretty straight forward using the FLVPlayback component. The thing is that the Dynamic Stream should start with the lowest quality video and then automatically adjust upward based on the connection speed of the client. For me, testing on a localhost, it is starting at a stream rate it cannot handle. I don't think it is moving down streams either.
View 2 RepliesI have FMIS 3.5.I've installed it with pretty much all the default values.I haven't changed any of the settings in either the LIVE or the VOD applications.Dynamic Bitrate Switching is working well for VOD, but not working at all for LIVE streams.Doing a regular bandwidth detection on both the LIVE and the VOD applications give similar, high bandwidth results. However, the LIVE application NetStreamInfo.maxBytesPerSecond is showing a very low bandwidth capability of around maxBytesPerSecond = 19016, where as for the VOD its achieving around 637110.I can play a single LIVE stream of a high quality smoothly without any error.
I don't know if this is relevent but I'm getting some error messages occassionally in the log of the live application saying : Dropping application (live/_definst_) message. Clients not allowed to broadcast message.These messages aren't consistent, and don't coincide with trying to use bitrate switching.I have tried downloading the Adobe sample StreamSwitching. fla and it won't play the LIVE streams at all.Using the opensource Longtail Video player it just always defaults to the lowest stream.Here is an example: http:[url]....
We are successfully using Captivate 4 to create SWF files leveraging a Flash Streaming Media Server hosted on a CDN.My question is, does anyone know how to leverage the dynamic streaming / adaptive bitrate feature in FMS 3.5 with a Captivate file? I have spent an entire day searching all over Adobe forums and am surprised to see this is not documented ANYWHERE and given Captivate REQUIRES FMS to stream, it would be incredibly poor design if it cannot leverage the best feature FMS has to offer!
We publish to Flash Player 10, and while FP 10 IS compatible with dynamic streaming, my challenge is Captivate only allows one URI path and one stream name.To deliver dynamic streaming you have to have several files with different encode rates availalbe. But if Captivate only allows one stream name,how do you point it to a stream that finds all the alternative files? I've explored this with 3 different CDNs and they don't know how to do it(Limelight, CDNetworks and Internap)

Actually I am working in an image scroller project. It was working perfectly. But the client asked to do some updations. You can see many options there. In user control, scroller is specified as marquee scroller. There is an option, Speed of scroller, which denotes how quickly the image should scroll. The unit of this field is seconds. Because we are giving seconds in that field. A single image should move out of the stage with in the specified seconds in "speed of scroller" field.

When I set the frame rate to 40 this command this.stage.frameRate = 40; it moves along pretty fast.If I set the frame rate through a slider componet I have to set it to about 300 to be the same speed. This seems strange I thought 40fps was 40fps.

I am using progressive streaming with VideoDisplay, the HTTP URL provided gets buffered completely even if I have configured it to start playing the video when the buffering reaches 20%, the trace message shows that the playing started(using mozilla /Flashbug+Firebug), but it doesnot show the video till the buffercounter reaches 100% How can I get the video stream to play at the 20% of stream.Code Segment where the check takes place

I'm recording Webcam to FMS 3.5 but when I play the recorded video from FMS it's choppy. I have set the camera.fps to 30 but when I trace out the currentFPS for camera it's variable and usually falls between 20 and 30. However when I play the recorded video, netStream's currentFPS returns a lower value, something closer to 10. So my question is, 1) why currentFPS of netStream is not the same as Camera's? 2) What's the actual frame rate of the recorded video (not the netStream, but FLV's)?

View 5 RepliesI'm working on an Adobe Air application written in Flex 4 that plays .mp3 audio files on the user's computer. Note: these are are not audio files shipped with the application -- they are .mp3's on the user's computer that they select for playback through the application. The application works fine for .mp3s encoded at 44.1 kHz, but can give unpredictable results if other sample rates are used. I've done plenty of research to know the limitations of the Sound class and how .mp3 will basically be my only option in Flex.
My question is: Is there a way to detect the sample rate of the .mp3 audio in Flex 4 ActionScript? Rather than worry about making the application work well with non-standard sample rates, at this point I'd like to just catch those cases and prevent files with non-44.1 kHz sample rates from loading. To be specific: if a user selects an .mp3 for playback that has been encoded at 48 kHz, for example, I'd like to be able to detect that case and take action preventing the file from loading and then announce to the user that this is not a supported audio file.
I have the streaming server 3.5.3. The sample player page for the dynamic streaming is here: [URL].click on the dynamic sample. pause and wait a few minutes for disconnect from the server. When you hit play, it starts from that spot and also starts from the beginning in the background audio while showing the buffering orange circle the whole time.
My users are students watching long lectures, they pause all the time. when they come back, it is a mess.
I know that flex does not support multi threading however, I would like to clear a doubt.I have two events that call a same function. Suppose the two events occur at the same instant (or in quick succession) will the handler be called twice, one after the other or there is a chance that if the handler function is taking too much time to execute the same handler can start executing simultaneously.

I am currently playing around with flex, I have C++ background, so I am not used to AS3.The problem is in the main*.mxml file I have fx:script block and I try to define a multidimensional array like that:

I use a function to initialize the 2d-array:

This function gets called later on in the main loop to init and reset the "board" why doesn't it work. The only difference to the AS3 documentation is that it gets done in a function.
