For a Flex application that is used to search and display results (no write operations), I am currently storing data in a relational database, but rather than querying the DB via the app, I am doing a nightly write of the data, including its relationships, to an XML file.Then, through Flex, I am loading that XML file, parsing it into custom Objects, and "querying" those objects as necessary.
It works well basically filtering an ArrayCollection of these Objects based on search criteria. Versus querying the DB, full text search, for instance, is extremely fast in this scenario.But what are some potential drawbacks? How valid is this approach?
I've just tried senocular's xml tutorials. [URL] The search query seems case sensitive. How to make it accept upper and lower case characters. Actually i'm trying to make a search by myself by using the same code.

when the user clicks submit, it plugs them into the search url
i have it working for one input field, but i am not sure how to append the script for the second field...what would i need to change to the below script to add a second field into that query string?
I'm trying to run a sqlite query in flex to count the total number of records I believe its working fine but I just can't figure out how to display the results - all I get back is [object Object].

I have a dropdown box that is used to select a Category. I need the Flash Application to send the value of Category plus the search string in my textbox to my Access query and return results for each product meeting selection criteria. The Flash Application is calling an ASP.NET web service which in turn queries an MS Access database.
To start, how do I define the category ID and search value in my Actionscript 3 code?I've placed a series of 12 or so objects that will be populated with the product description, title and price. How do I setup each field to be dynamic text associated with the title description and price from my query results? If there are more than 12 products returned by the query, how do I add an additional page of objects to house more than 12 query results?
I am trying to write a small flash app which will load and display images provided as a query. My flash app works fine when I provide the image path directly in the browser address bar, but it is not working when I do the same using html.Here is the direct link to the flash appThe Html code is attached with the post.I know my app is getting invoked and it appears to work fine when I hardcode the image url into the flash app. But the query method just does not seem to be working!!This is hosted on a linux site supporting php.
Can i load an in memory XML, returned by a linq to SQL query, to an SWF object? And here comes the long version. The purpose is loading an in-memory XML file, to an SWFobject via a querystring.

I'm currently trying to use the FLVPlayback component and pass a source FLV that's living on a cloudfront webserver. The problem is that the cloudfront requires authentication in the form of query strings in the source FLV. For example:[code]It adds on "&FLVPlaybackVersion= 2.1" to the end.I saw a different article that said I should add a dummy variable at the end like "&dummy=.flv" because I was told that Flash is basically looking for an .flv extension at the end and you can trick it, but it doesn't work because they add on additional code.
I have created an interactive atlas. I am using my favorite map zooming and panning tools supplied by Senocular which can be found here: [URL] For the panning/zooming/drawBox tool to work the map features must be buried deep within several movieclips. There is one level at which you can put buttons that aren't effected by the code for the panning/zooming etc. Buttons have to go on this level or higher if you want them to work.
The way my atlas is set up - there is a main interface that has these tools plus the menu system. The menu (xml; created by Lost and Sen - brilliant) loads in two external swfs - one is the map itself and the other is a set of "controls" for that particular map (radio buttons, check boxes, text links, etc.).
Okay so here is my problem. I have a couple of external swfs that have buttons on them that do things when you roll over and off them. If I have these buttons sitting on the map then when it gets loaded into the main interface they no longer work. So I am trying to use attachMovie to attach them to an MC within the zooming tools in the main interface at a level they can be active (oh god I hope that makes sense). But it's not working.
I am guessing it's because the code to attach them is being fired before the external can be loaded into the interface. So I'm not really sure where to fire the attachMovie code. Does it go with the external? Does it go with the controls for the external?
I have a slight problem with serching datagrid, the thing is that i load xml to datagrid it works but when i filter i get an error msg. The code looks like this:
[URL]I have a checkbox renderer i am placing into my Datagrid. The checkbox needs to do a sql query on the sqllite database and see if the show is marked as watched, if it is then make the checkbox as checked and if not mark the checkbox and not checked.
What i would like to do further to this is add the watched items to one XMLList and add the not watched episodes to a different XMLList and have the checkbox on click= move from one to the other list as per watched or not.
I'm using flex to develop my first desktop app and I'm working with sqlite for the first time as well. I'm creating my database and all the tables just fine, but I would also like to add a few rows of data into a couple of the tables so the information is present on first install. The only problem I'm having is every time I run the program it keeps inserting the same data over and over again. here's what I'm trying, but it doesn't seem to be working.
I'm building Flex 3 application and I have a geocoding service (http://.../GeocodeServer) on a ArcGIS server (ESRI). I'm trying to execute a query on this service in order to retrieve some informations.
Unfortunately, when I execute the query, I get this error : [RPC Fault faultString="" faultCode="400" faultDetail="Invalid URL"]
It's definitely not the URL that is invalid since my locator uses it without any problem.

I am trying to create a search field in AS3 to search keywords in a dynamic text field of the same flash movie, where the text is loaded from an XML file.
I am building an application in Flex Builder 3. Yes, I know that it has an auto-magic feature to build datasheet, but that will not work. I see many Flex controls, such as combo box, can take an array as a data source.
My question, therefore, is (1) How do I send the request from my action script to my PHP form to request a record set. (2) Presuming that my dataset is in a PHP assoc array, how do I format it to send it back to Action Script. (3) How do I take the data received from the recordset, and put it inot an actionscript array, suitable for use as a data source.
I can connect to my database in PHP, and query it just fine, so I don't need help with that. For consistency, and humor, lets presume that I have the following data in an assoc array that I pulled from a database.
I have this project for school where i have to populate a drop down list control from an xml file.I mange to do that for a label/text input control, but i can't seem to do that on a drop down.I get this error any time i tell him to "additem" with an xml query (not getting it with simple text):"#1009 Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference"[code]...
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

I think I need to define the database field I'm wanting to display, but I'm unsure how to do this as TextInput fields don't support dataField or labelField properties. Is there another property I don't know about? How do i go about fixing this?
I've started a project a while ago, so far it is almost done but there is something that I seem not to be able to do alone... I would like to add a search function which I don't know how to do.It will not be a normal search function so I am going to try to beak it down with an easy example:
Let's say I did a project that is embeded somewhere in a normal html page with a main menu from where you can get to different city maps (e.g. New York, Paris, Berlin). The maps are seperate swfs. On all those maps there are several buttons for historical sites (or whatever) with a mousover function and a link to a page with more information about that specific site (on html).the names of the buttons are always a letter and a number (New York: "N1","N2","N3"...; Paris: "P1","P2","P2"... instance name for P1 is p1_btn)
What I need now is a search field in the main menu where you can search for those buttons. Meaning if I type in "N2" and hit search it will take me to the New York swf and show me button "N2".
I know this might not make much sense like this but the actual version is quite different and more complicated context-wise. Therefore if possible I would like to leave it that way with the main menu, the linked swfs and the buttons.
