Feb 23, 2010I'm building a simple white board app in ActionScript 3. Most white board or painting apps in ActionScript tend to use an interval, timer, mouseMove event, or enterFrame event to track the mouse position and paint lines or brushes in between the tracked points.
What I'm trying to achieve is the nice smooth painted line that a program like Photoshop can render while painting with the brush tool. In Photoshop, no matter how fast you move the mouse around the canvas, the painted lines always end up with a nice smooth curved edge. In my app, using any of the methods mentioned prior, there is always latency between the function calls that render the brush to the stage. Thus, using any of those techniques can result in a sharp cornered line when moving the mouse very quickly in a circular manner.
This is no surprise to me, I just have no idea how I could achieve a smoother line like Photoshop's brush tool. Mind you, the brushes for my app are mostly based on shapes and do not or cannot use the drawing API to draw continues lines. In other words, graphics.curveTo() is not an option. I am also rendering the Sprites or Shapes generated by the brushes to a BitmapData instance.

Jul 14, 2004I need to know how to script the drawing board as in the user can only draw on a specified area. For example, on a 800x600 layout, only 1/4 of it is the drawing board.After the user has drawn the image, when he/she clicks on a button, the image will be replicated on another area in the same 800x600 space. So far, I can only manage to make a drawing board on the whole 800x600 space and erasing.

Dec 12, 2010I am completing a basic web design class, and have one question for this community.I uploaded several intro slide shows onto a black background. They work fine, but take awhile to load (once viewed and go back-they load much quicker). While waiting to load, the stage area is white. However when I created them, I made sure the stage area was black. Any suggestions as to what I might do to correct this? I just think it would look much better if everything was black until the show appears.The shows were created in Flash CS 4 (ActionScript 3.0), & the site was created in Dreamweaver CS 4.

May 21, 2004I would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.

Oct 29, 2009I managed to show the output of a shell command in TextArea of flex by calling following php file via HTTPService and then using the dataprovider attribute of TextArea to show the returned output.

Now i have a C file which prints some lines (by using printf command of C) when i run it in shell using
./myCfile
But following php code seems to not return anything as my TextArea remains empty

Aug 30, 2011I'm having trouble figuring out how I should go about making an auto scroll functionality for a text area in Flex.
What I have is a text area that loads text from an XML file at startup, and displays it in a text area. There is also an audio track that is plays along with the text. As the words from the audio file is read out, the corresponding word in the text area is highlighted red. What I want to happen is that if the highlighted word is below the visible range of the text area I want to scroll the scroll bar to adjust accordingly to the selection.
