I always thought that separating the UI from the logic is the way to go like the use of class files in Flash CS3/CS4 or MVC in web frameworks but recently there are plenty of examples and posts using ActionScript embedded in MXML.

I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. For instance I might want to adjust the font color or style for the label and text input. toy component which aggregates both a label and a text input:

A Flex components values are initlized by init methord. In an application flow, How to refresh a mxml component data value ; as init is callled at the start up it self only.
eg. of mxml componet may be as simple as button label or text as complex as repeater whose data provider is a web service ( means a fresh quesy should be made to pull the data and refresh the dataprovider of repeater )
suppose i have 3 buttons(for example say, productin, marketing, sales ) on my main.mxml..once i click on one button it should take me to abc.mxml page with production data, once again if i click on second button it should take me to the same abc.mxml but with marketing data. same as for 3rd button also, how can i achieve this ?
View 2 RepliesI've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
I'm developing a module based applications in Flex and I was thinking about moving all my Value Objects (VOs) into a library project
Current Structure: I have a project that consist of a shell application and 3 modules. The modules contain about 10 custom components in each that are dynamically loaded at run time. My problem is component A ( in module A) needs to pass data to component B (in module B). So when this happens I move the VO that component A was using to a common folder. I then pass the VO and have component B pick that up and do what ever it needs to do with it.
So what I was thinking was using an existing library project and adding all my VOs to it. This way I'll never have to move a VO from the module to a common folder so both module A and module B can access it. The basic idea is I want to be able to complete abstract any module from shell into its own widget or Air app with out depending on any other modules.
I checked this link Flex Cross Resolution Applications and it did Infact,the display varies from browser to browser, (for eg. chrome vs ie8) Chrome has bigger browser window. How to develop flex applications in this case ? I am using values in percentages.However,panel which displays properly in IE8, appears big in chrome with text and buttons having same size. How to solve this problem

You can see to the left that I will have my main application and then other mxml files (In the Examples Package) as the examples that will be loaded into the main application mxml. I would like to include an MXML file in my MXML file in the same way you can include an external file in AS3 using the include directive. Using the include directive brings the code from the external file into the original file at compile time placing it in the same scope. For example,

I'm developing Text Chat App with FMS 4, Flex 4.6. I want to count how many users in. I've searched enough. And I made some codes. Server Side Code(main.asc)

The end result won't matter, once the program is finished (images sitting in IDE or images loaded externally)I work off of a laptop most of the time, cheap laptop, so if I have 5 Megs of images sitting in my Flash IDE, every time I troubleshoot (run the movie, F5), it takes at least 5 seconds before I can test my movie, and when you have to test it 4000 time a day it adds up . If I were to load everything externally, would this knock off the testing time drastically, considering I am not adding the images to the stage (just have them load, and stored in arrays)?
