Flex - Check If A Menu Is Displayed

How can to check if the menu is still displayed?

Jun 20, 2010Basically, I have a button and on click it displays a menu. I want to click that menu a second time and the menu closes. Currently, every time you click the button, the menu reopens. I pasted the Flex livedoc example below. If you click the button, the menu keeps reopening.Now, I rigged it up by setting a var to open and closed, so when clicking the button it does a check. However, if you click away from the screen, the HIDE event gets dispatched, and the menu closes. This messed up the open close var being set.
How could I make this Flex example below show the menu on button click, and then on a second button click, it closes the menu? Take into affect that if you click away from the menu, it closes it.Also, I played around with the MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE event for the button and set the preventDefault, and the FlexMouseEvent event.cancelable is set to false.Changing to a PopUpMenuButton is not an option. I have to much skinning involved.Here is the Flex example:

Jan 27, 2011The following is my codes. This is still work in progress; so, you will see some functions with empty contents. Plus, this is my first Flex application; please bear with me. This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?

Jul 29, 2009I have a Flex 3 app with a view in a viewstack, and that view must only be created when requested. I have declared validators for each of the controls on the view and I have created a method called checkAllValid() which runs Validator.validateAll(). This works great when I'm actually using the controls (using the change or focusOut events), but how can I get checkAllValid() to run when the view is first displayed to the user, so that they are immediately shown what is invalid once the data is populated in the controls?
I have tried putting the call in various events on the view itself (e.g. creationComplete, updateComplete, show, activate, etc.) but it always shows the following error when I start the application:
'The source attribute must be specified when the property attribute is specified.'
I have also tried setting the creationPolicy on the view to "all" but this does not help.
Some of the validators are only enabled when the form is in a certain state, but I have eliminated that as being the potential problem by commenting out all of my validators except for this most simple one:

I have also tried calling the single validator directly rather than using validateAll and the result is the same.
There must be a way I can force the view to validate when it is shown....
(by the way it's in the Cairngorm MVC framework and I have data bound to the controls)
Flex :: Get Width Of The Clipped Displayed Column
Jan 13, 2011I have a DataGrid in my project. It doesn't fit's the width of the form, so the scrollBar appears. The DataGrid, on it's initial state, displays a few columns and a part of the next column (which would appear after scrolling). Is there any way, I can get the width of this, displaying part?

Apr 7, 2011I am looking to determine the final event or location where it could be determined that an Image, or a UIComponent, has been rendered to the user. I need to know when it has been displayed and thus is, presuming it's not covered up or at a silly location, visible to the user. In the UpdateComplete Event Documentation it says:
This is the last opportunity to alter the component before it is displayed. All properties have been committed and the component has been measured and layed out.Overriding the dispatchEvent on an Image shows that the UpdateComplete Event is the last one that it dispatches after an update of the .source property. Breakpointing and walking the code after that event shows that the LayoutManager seems to finish with it's actions before the Image is displayed.
I have watched the dispatchEvent on and updateDisplayList on the canvas container and no dice. I assume that there is some higher (lower) object that I might be able to extend or listen to that would give me that final piece of information.
NoisyImageTest.mxml - test application for watching the event loop. If you breakpoint at line 22 you see the last updateComplete event but the image is not yet displayed. Stepping through the code from there, it exits the thread after the LayoutManager but still has not updated the screen. I assume that there is a point where the systemManager or stage or some other item could say it drew the image.

Jan 21, 2011I have a custom component I've developed that's part of a dashboard.It does some polling based on a timer that's part of the component.
When the user navigates away from the view that contains this component I would like to stop the timer and hence stop the polling.I can obviously fire an event when the view's changed and catch it within the component but I was hoping that there might be a way to contain this all within the component.Is there an event or state change within a component that triggers and even when a component is currently be displayed?

Flex :: Print A Dynamically Created Component/chart That Is Not Being Displayed On The Screen?
Jan 24, 2011I have a several chart components that I have created in Flex. Basically I have set up a special UI that allows the user to select which of these charts they want to print. When they press the print button each of the selected charts is created dynamically then added to a container. Then I send this container off to FlexPrintJob.
i.e.

I have seen some examples on the adobe site that add the container to the application but don't include it in the layout. This looks like the way to go.

Oct 26, 2009I want to check in my function if a passed argument of type object is empty or not. Sometimes it is empty but still not null thus I can not rely on null condition. Is there some property like 'length'/'size' for flex objects which I can use here.
