Why does the trace in the loop below return false for every iteration, even though there ARE nodes named with 6 of the 8 possible values??? This only happens when I have a namespace. Is there some other way to check for the node values???

I have a frame where there a 5 input text fields that the user can fill in. THey may not fill them all in though. In the next frame I want to push the fields that they filled in into an array.how do I determine what they filled in and what they didn't.
View 2 RepliesI have an array with some elements that may repeat themselves or not (this is actually because they're attributes retrieved from xml nodes, but you don't need to know that); what I want to do is: go through that array and check for elements and store them in another array according to the following condition (this is where it gets tricky): if that element does not exist in the final array yet, store it; if it does exist already, nevermind it.

Trace returns lisbon, oporto, oporto, coimbra, oporto, coimbra wich means that the only element in the destinations array being prevented from getting pushed into the final array is the first element in the initial array (in this case, "lisbon")... but if it prevents the first one, how come it doesn't prevent the others, damn it?...
I'm using the FLVPlayback class to play my FLV files.
If I'm trying to play a FLV file which is not existed yet then I am getting a "VideoError: 1000" with message of Unable to make connection to server or to find FLV on server.
I want to check for the FLV file existence using the file URL or path, before playing that FLV by FLVPlayback.
Say I start at a leaf node, and I traverse up the tree by using .parent(). I need an exit condition once it hits root. At the moment, I'm using parent.@name != "root", where name is just an attribute, but shouldn't I be able to check the type of element as well? How? Also, is there another way to end the traversal in as3?

I have a MC that pulls in XML data. The data it calls is content and a link. To make the MC launch the link I'm using the "onRelease" function. The MC pulls in the data from the content node and the data from the link node just fine. The problem is when my client just wants content without a URL the MC still keeps the "onRelease" function, so the content (that shouldn't be linkable) is still clickable and launches a "error" page.I'm trying to disable the "onRelease" function by checking if the URL node has data in it but I can't figure out a way to do this?THIS SCRIPT IS WITH IN THE MC:

My Flex 3 application has some modal dialogs displayed via the PopUpManager, but there are times when I'd like other view components to know there is popup displayed. The PopUpManager doesn't have any method for actually checking the existence of popups. Is there any other way to detect this in flash/flex without writing my own global manager?
(also systemManager.popUpChildren.numChildren == 0 even when there's a modal popup)

The first vid node contains a path to a logo graphic, I then need to check in my ActionScript if there is a logo there or not, and to do something if there is(display the logo) I can trace out the logo path so I thought I could run a simple if/else to check if there is anything in that node and if so to do something:

This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?

I need to check for file existence in Flash on x number of videos. I've tried LoadVars and MovieClipLoader. LoadVars works but it actually loaded the entire video before reporting its done. Without a way of knowing that its started, I can't delete it before its done. I don't what to load the entire video, i just want to check that its there. MovieClipLoader has onLoadError and onLoadStart, which works because I can unload the MovieClip right after its starts loading and know its there and if there's a load error I know it's not there. Should work, but I need to run that x number of times to check for the other videos.

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a simple non-XML-based slide show where the container MC dynamically loads sequentially numbered files (01.swf, 02.swf, 03.swf, etc). As you may already be gathering, I want to write a little loop that returns true if the file is there, e.g. if there's only files, 01.swf � 07.swf and the loop checks for 08.swf and doesn't find it, it returns false. BTW, in this particular case checking loader MC's _width won't work, so I need an alternative to that.

I am currently developing a dynamic LineChart in FLEX 4.I am implementing a Tree control next to my LineChart, which will filter the LineChart dataprovider and lineseries. The tree control has several branches and ultimately 5 children (leaf nodes) at the bottom of the last branch.I need the leaf node/children to be displayed as checkboxes inside the tree control.As I understand,this will require overrides in the TreeItemRenderer class.This is where I am a little confused on how to implement that.Currently I can distinguish between leaf and branches using this code, in my main MXML component.I added this because it may be helpful to some beginning FLEXdevelopers, such as myself, who cannot easily find this functionality documented well:

I am looking at the TreeItemRenderer override class from the following example here: In the example, they override the "createChildden" super function to add checkboxes to the tree control.My question is, can I override the createChildren function directly in my MXML component, and not have to use an entire class file to override this functionality? Must I re-invent the wheel to do this?Also, how can I distinguish that my treeItem is a leaf node and not a parent, in the override function? I only want to add checkboxes to the leaf nodes, how can I differentiate? The following example adds checkboxes to all branches and leaf nodes, but I want to add checkboxes only to leaf node/children. How would you approach that?

In ActionScript 3 you can declare optional parameters like this:function (i:int = 0, s:String = "", o:Object = null):void { }So you can check if the user passed parameters s and o because you can test against the empty string or the null object if(s && o)...But how do you allow an int to be truly optional? What if all values for i are valid, including 0, negative and positive integers? And what if you want to enforce integer (not use Number?)what's the best practice here? the (...) rest may work but then you can't enforce a certain number of parameters at runtime, nor can you make for useful code completion?
