ActionScript 2.0 :: Check If XML Node Has Data?

Aug 14, 2010

I have a MC that pulls in XML data. The data it calls is content and a link. To make the MC launch the link I'm using the "onRelease" function. The MC pulls in the data from the content node and the data from the link node just fine. The problem is when my client just wants content without a URL the MC still keeps the "onRelease" function, so the content (that shouldn't be linkable) is still clickable and launches a "error" page.I'm trying to disable the "onRelease" function by checking if the URL node has data in it but I can't figure out a way to do this?THIS SCRIPT IS WITH IN THE MC:

function loadXML(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
_root.linkName = this.firstChild.childNodes[0].firstChild.nodeValue;

Xml :: Flash - Run If/else Statement To Check If XML Node Is Empty?

Feb 23, 2010

checking an XML file for a specific node.

Example:

<vid
flv="videoName"
thumb="thumbnail.jpg"
title="Video Title"

[code]....

The first vid node contains a path to a logo graphic, I then need to check in my ActionScript if there is a logo there or not, and to do something if there is(display the logo) I can trace out the logo path so I thought I could run a simple if/else to check if there is anything in that node and if so to do something:

private function thumbOver(e:MouseEvent = null):void
{
trace("
");

[code]....

Now I've tried everything, but it will always trace out "Does have a logo" no matter what I do. I tried:

if (tabData[tabID].video[e.target.id].@logo == "")
if (tabData[tabID].video[e.target.id].@logo == null)

However I get the same results?

Say I start at a leaf node, and I traverse up the tree by using .parent(). I need an exit condition once it hits root. At the moment, I'm using parent.@name != "root", where name is just an attribute, but shouldn't I be able to check the type of element as well? How? Also, is there another way to end the traversal in as3?

Flex :: DataGrid Reads A Field From LastResult.node As Number?

Sep 7, 2009

Why does Flex 3 DataGrid read a string from XML lastResult.node as number?A field is saved as var_char in mysql, php reads it as string and pass it OK.If there are more then 16 charaters it gets rounded....For example:

this in database cell:

12345678901234567

gets read in DataGrid as nubmer as 12345678901234568

this is in database cell:

5555544444222223333377777

php reads it same and puts it in XML flex reads XML into arrayCollection and DataGrid reads it as:

5.55554444422222e+24

So it reads it as number, why? And how to make it read as String? I tried with labelFunction, no help.

Actionscript 3 :: Constraining Number Of Children In A ViewStack ?

Mar 7, 2012

I have the following code to create a ViewStack which is used as a dataprovider for a TabBar:

<s:TabBar id="objectTab" dataProvider="{vs_objects}"/>
<mx:ViewStack id="vs_objects" width="100%" />

I want to constrain the number of children the ViewStack to avvoid the tabs going out of the screen when the user opens many tabs without closing any. I attempt to do this by removing the oldest element in the ViewStack when the user opens a new tab and the size of the ViewStack is above 9.

private function openTab(object:Object): void {
//Create a new NavigatorContent(form) and add it to the ViewStack[code].........

The image below illustrates my problem, where the dark grey color illustrates the selected Tab. There should only be one selected tab, which works perfectly fine with both the child selection approaches above, when i don't remove a child before selecting a new. When i remove a child and then open a new Tab, the new Tab does not get selected properly, it only gets "painted" in the selected color. In This case Tab 40 is still shown when i open Tab 41 (exceeding 9 tabs). The result of this issue is that Tab 41 is not rendered completely.

UPDATE: The problem was my AS3 code inside the childrens NavigatorContent's that caused the application to behave this way. The solution was using the callLater method:Doric's

code example:

protected function openTab():void
{
var form:Container = new Container();[code]............

ActionScript 3.0 :: Limiting A Container To A Certain Number Of Children?

Feb 9, 2009

At one point in my script I'd like to check a MC for the number of children and limit this number to 3. For that I use this script:

Code:
if (container.numChildren > 3){
for (i = container.numChildren; i > 3; i--){
container.removeChild(container.getChildAt(i-1));
popError('Horizontal nur 3 Elemente!');
}
}

This somehow works fine if there are 4 or 5 children in the MovieClip, but as soon as there are 6 or more, it throws an Argument Error #2025 and does not remove anything. BTW it does not make difference if I use container.removeChildAt(i-1);
