how do i find out the number of properties in any element of the ArrayCollection? The structure of the ArrayCollection wud be something like:

Say you pick a movieclip at random, and assign in a function, how do you find out what number in the Array it is and remove it from the array?

Of course, it would be easy to remove the MC that I am checking "this" for distance with, it would just be splicing array[a], but it's "this" that I am just not sure how to splice.

This object is ok, and shows up correctly in debug mode. The problem is I have a country name i.e. private var _country:String = "Angola";, and I want to get the corresponding value 'AO' from the XML object. Do you know how to do this?

I am dynamically creating 10 textinputs inside a vgroup . when user clicks a button, I want to fetch the text present on all textinputs. How to do this. My code looks like this

I want to put an element into another component (in this case a print template), print it, and then return it to its place. The problem is that when I return it, it has the properties of the print template! Here is a simplified example. When you click print, the label is removed and then returned but when returned it is affected by the padding of the print template! Why? How can I somehow refresh it to its proper properties? I tried all the invalidate... methods and parentChanged() but nothing worked.

I use httpservice with object result to load data on dropdownlist. Some time the result is only one element. In this case, an error appear. I know that another solution is to e4x result format but I think that in this case it's longer.

View 1 RepliesI'm new to Flex and am using TileList bound to an ArrayCollection. The array collection is empty at load time, and then updates with the results from am HTTPService call. The problem is that the item renderers aren't being rendered as expected, I'm guessing because there was no data when they were first rendered at load time. Here's simplified example:

I'm currently trying to implement an automated bug reporter for a Flex application, and would like to return error messages to a server along with the function/line number that caused the error. Essentially, I'm trying to get the getStackTrace() information without going into debug mode, because most users of the app aren't likely to have the debug version of flash player.My current method is using the UncaughtErrorEvent handler to catch errors that occur within the app, but the error message only returns the type of error that has occurred, and not the location (which means it's useless). I have tried implementing getStackTrace() myself using a function name-grabber such as [code]
but that will only work because of arguments.callee, and so won't go through multiple levels of function calls (it would never get above my error event listener).Anyone have any ideas on how to get informative error messages through the global error event handler? There seems to be some misunderstanding. I'm explicitly avoiding getStackTrace() because it returns 'null' when not in debug mode.
i have an array containing all the bases in a game.... when my ship lands a proximity check is made between the ship and each member of the basesArray.. i want to iterate through the array and subtract the ship x/y from the array element(base)x/y. if the result is between 50 +/- that element becomes the active base. here's the code:

Is there a way to find an XML element by values of two attributes (XPath or whatever?)?
I would prefer not to loop through the result of one of the attributes search, because XML is huge and its processing is already slow.

i'll have different number of columns in my dataGrid. DataGrid is privided from arrayCollection. I'm trying to add items to array collection using dynamic string 'x', like this:

At the end my 'result' array collection has to columns: 'name' with a value of 'name[i]' and 'session1' with a value o x string. I'm trying to increase nuber of 'session' columns in array collction, but it not working the way I planned.

by using array[0].name, it will return "a", is there any function that i can get the number "0" when i do something to "a" ?

View 3 RepliesI recently bought a new machine and tried to put my Flash 8 software onto it. The serial number was fine, but it requested the serial number of the software I upgraded from, which I no longer have (MX, I think it was. I threw it out ages ago thinking I didn't need it ). I can't even remember what email address my macromedia/adobe account was under, it might even be under an email address for a domain I no longer have.
I do still have the software installed on my old PC. Is there anyway I can find out the serial number of the MX I upgraded from off of the Flash 8 on there? Or it is a lost cause?

View 5 RepliesIm looking to be able to find a number (any number) within a text string, what i ultimately want to do is crop the number out of the string to just be left with a number value, the only problem is the string could be any length and the number doesnt necessarily start at any point from the last characterI have items on the stage named 'image0', 'textfield2', 'button500' etc, as you can see the prefix before the number isnt a fixed length so I couldnt use substr and set an index, and since the number could be any number i couldnt set the index as a certain value before the end of the string. (ie it might return '500' or 'ld2' or 'ge0' in the examples given before)
